Efficient synthesis of HO via photocatalytic oxygen reduction without sacrificial agents is challenging due to inadequate proton supply from water and difficulty in maintaining O-O bond during O activation. Herein, we developed a straightforward strategy involving a proton-rich hydrogel cross-linked by metal ions [M(n)], which is designed to facilitate the selective production of HO through proton relay and metal ion-assisted detachment of crucial intermediates. The hydrogel comprises CdS/graphene and alginate cross-linked by metal ions via O=C-O-M(n) bonds.

As an unconventional natural gas resource, tight sandstone gas is primarily stored in the minuscule pores between rocky sand grains. A thorough understanding of the pore structure characteristics of tight sandstone reservoirs is essential for formulating an extraction plan and enhancing the efficiency of gas field development. The pore structure and mineral composition in the sandstone can be directly observed by thin sections.

Long-term coal mining activities in abandoned coal mining areas have resulted in the migration of large quantities of heavy metals into the surrounding soil environment, posing a threat to the regional ecological environment. This study focuses on the surface soil collected from a typical abandoned coal mining area. Methods such as the pollution index (PI) and potential ecological risk index (RI) were used to comprehensively evaluate the pollution levels and ecological risks of soil heavy metals.

Anthropogenic activities significantly impact river ecosystem nutrient fluxes and microbial metabolism. Here, we examined the seasonal and spatial variation of sediments physicochemical parameters and the associated microbiome in the Pengxi river, a representative tributary of Three Gorges Reservoir, in response to seasonal impoundment and land use change by human activities. Results revealed that seasonal impoundment and land use change enhanced total organic carbon (TOC), total nitrogen (TN) and ammonium nitrogen (NH-N) concentration in the sediment, but have different effects on sediment microbiome.

Animal farming wastewater is one of the most important sources of ammonia nitrogen (NH-N) emissions. Electro-oxidation can be a viable solution for removing NH-N in wastewater. Compared with other treatment methods, electro-oxidation has the advantages of i) high removal efficiency, ii) smaller size of treatment facilities, and iii) complete removal of contaminant.

In this paper, CH, CH, H, and CO adsorbed on intrinsic MoTe monolayer and transition metal atom (Ta, V)-doped MoTe monolayer have been investigated with density functional theory based on first-principles study. The adsorption energy, geometries, band structures, and density of states of four gases (CH, CH, H, and CO) adsorbed on the MoTe and doped MoTe surfaces were analyzed. The results shown that the gas adsorption performance of transition metal atom (Ta, V)-doped MoTe monolayers is more superior than that of intrinsic MoTe, and the adsorption energy and charge transfer of the adsorbed gases on the TM-MoTe monolayer are significantly increased in comparison with both sides.

The ion permeability and selectivity of membranes are crucial in nanofluidic behavior, impacting industries ranging from traditional to advanced manufacturing. Herein, we demonstrate the engineering of ion-conductive membranes featuring angstrom-scale ion-transport channels by introducing ionic polyamidoamine (PAMAM) dendrimers for ion separation. The exterior quaternary ammonium-rich structure contributes to significant electrostatic charge exclusion due to enhanced local charge density; the interior protoplasmic channels of PAMAM dendrimer are assembled to provide additional degrees of free volume.

The particle size distribution in tailings notably influences their physical properties and behavior. Despite this, our understanding of how the distribution of tailings particle sizes impacts in situ pollution and ecological remediation in in-situ environment remains limited. In this study, an iron tailings reservoir was sampled along a particle flow path to compare the pollution characteristic and microbial communities across regions with different particle sizes.

Background: Tungsten (W) is an emerging heavy metal pollutant, yet research remains scarce on the biomonitor and sensitive biomarkers for W contamination.
Methods: In this study, celery and pepper were chosen as study subjects and subjected to exposure cultivation in solutions with five different levels of W. The physiological and biochemical toxicities of W on these two plants were systematically analyzed.
Maternal monitoring of conspecifics is a crucial anti-predator strategy that also protects infants against risks within the social group. This study examines how maternal characteristics, infant characteristics, mother-infant distance, and the social environment affect maternal monitoring behaviors in free-ranging Tibetan macaques (). We observed 12 females with infants and analyzed their visual monitoring patterns.

This present work consists of investigating the effects of particle size heterogeneity and flow rates on transport-reaction kinetics of CuSO and NaEDTA in porous media, via the combination of a bimolecular reaction experiment and model simulations. In the early stages of transport, a peak is observed in the concentration breakthrough curve of the reactant CuSO, related to the delayed mixing and reaction of the reactants. The numerical results show that an increase in flow rate promotes the mixing processes between the reactants, resulting in a larger peak concentration and a slighter tail of breakthrough curves, while an increase in medium heterogeneity leads to a more significant heavy tail.

The worldwide dissemination of New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase-1 (NDM-1), which mediates resistance to almost all clinical β-lactam antibiotics, is a major public health problem. The global distribution, species, sources, and potential transfer risk of bla-carrying bacteria are unclear. Results of a comprehensive analysis of literature in 2010-2022 showed that a total of 6002 bla carrying bacteria were widely distributed around 62 countries with a high trend in the coastal areas.

Considering the impact of differences in watershed characteristics on river water quality, with the Chaohu Lake Basin as the research object, based on the data of water quality, meteorology, topography, soil, and remote sensing images of the river monitoring points from October 2019 to September 2020, the watershed unit at each monitoring point was divided through digital terrain analysis, and the comprehensive landscape characteristics based on the watershed unit were explored through the comprehensive use of correlation analysis, redundancy analysis, and multiple regression analysis to investigate the influence of comprehensive landscape characteristics based on watershed units (including land use, climate, topography, soil, etc.) on the water quality of rivers around Chaohu Lake. The results showed that:① the water quality of rivers around Chaohu Lake had large spatial differences, with the main pollutants being total nitrogen and ammonia nitrogen.

Schwertmannite (Sch), a typical Fe(III)-oxyhydroxysulphate mineral, is the precipitation reservoir of toxic elements in acid mine drainage (AMD). Acid-tolerant microbes in AMD can participate in the microbe-mediated transformation of Sch, while Sch affects the physiological characteristics of these acid-tolerant microbes. Based on our discovery of algae and Sch enrichment in a contaminated acid mine pit lake, we predicted the interaction between algae and Sch when incubated together.

To elucidate the distribution law of the multiphase coupling slag discharge flow field in gas-lift reverse circulation during drilling shaft sinking, a numerical analysis model of gas-liquid-solid multiphase coupling slag discharge was established by CFD-DEM (Coupling of computational fluid dynamics and discrete element method) method, taking the drilling of North Wind well in Taohutu Coal Mine as an example. This model presented the distribution of the multiphase flow field in the slag discharge pipe and at the bottom hole, and was validated through experimentation and theoretical analysis. Finally, the impact of factors, including bit rotation speed, gas injection rate, air duct submergence ratio, and mud viscosity on the slag discharge flow field was clarified.
