More than 4.5 billion tons of unconventional uranium resources [UO(CO)] are uniformly dissolved in seawater, providing a sustainable and abundant fuel source for the development of nuclear energy. Herein, we presented a rational design and development of TiCT nanocontainer inspired by the exceptional selectivity and affinity exhibited by superb-uranyl proteins through amino acid intercalation.

Phytoremediation can eliminate pharmaceuticals from aquatic environments through absorption; however, understanding of absorption and transport processes in plants remains limited. In this study, a matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry imaging (MALDI-MSI) method was developed to explore the absorption and translocation mechanisms of seven common pharmaceuticals in Pistia stratiotes. Results showed that 2,3-dicyanohydroquinone, an infrequently used matrix, exhibited outstanding performance in MALDI-MSI analysis, producing the highest signal intensity for four of the seven pharmaceuticals.

In this study, the effect of hydrothermal carbonation (HTC) on the pyrolysis behavior and the distribution of nutrients and metal species of waste-activated sludge (WAS) was investigated. Results showed that the pyrolysis activation energy range of WAS decreased from 11 to 57 kJ/mol to 10-36 kJ/mol when the hydrothermal carbonization was at 160 °C. As indicated by thermodynamic parameters, the hydrothermal carbonization process reduces the pyrolysis reaction activity of the hydrochar.

Microplastic (MP) pollution is a significant worldwide environmental and health challenge. Municipal solid waste (MSW) can be an important source of MPs in the environment if treated and disposed of inappropriately, causing potential ecological risks. MSW treatment and disposal methods have been gradually shifting from landfilling/dumping to more sustainable approaches, such as incineration or composting.

Species functional traits can influence seed dispersal processes and consequently affect species' role in the mutualistic network. Although the effect of animal traits on the structure of the seed dispersal network is well explored, it remains poorly understood how plant and fruit traits contribute to the structure. We here studied the effects of plant and fruit traits on the structure of bird seed dispersal networks across different disturbed habitats in the Meihua Mountain National Nature Reserve, Southeastern China.

The instability and high electron-hole recombination have limited the application of black phosphorus (BP) as an excellent photocatalyst. To address these challenges, poly dimethyl diallyl ammonium chloride (PDDA), poly (allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH), and polyethyleneimine (PEI) are introduced to the functionalization of BP (F-BP), which can not only enhance its stability, but also boost the carrier transfer. Furthermore, a high-performance heterojunction photocatalyst is fabricated using F-BP and titania nanosheets (TNs) via a layer-by-layer self-assembly approach.

Regulating product selectivity in photocatalytic CO reduction to enhance the yield of valuable hydrocarbons remains a formidable challenge because of the diversity of reduction products and the competitive reduction of HO. Herein, ultrathin BiO/ Co-doped SrBiTiO S-scheme photocatalysts (Co-BS) were synthesized using a hydrothermal method. The BiO/Co-doped SrBiTiO photocatalyst exhibited significantly higher selectivity for CH (62.

Acidic pit lakes (APLs) emerge as reservoirs of acid mine drainage in flooded open-pit mines, representing extreme ecosystems and environmental challenges worldwide. The bioremediation of these oligotrophic waters necessitates the addition of organic matter, but the biogeochemical response of APLs to exogenous organic matter remains inadequately comprehended. This study delves into the biogeochemical impacts and remediation effects of digestate-derived organic matter within an APL, employing a multi-omics approach encompassing geochemical analyses, amplicon and metagenome sequencing, and ultra-high resolution mass spectrometry.

Information on biotransformation of antivirals in the side-stream partial nitritation (PN) process was limited. In this study, a side-stream PN sludge was adopted to investigate favipiravir biotransformation under controlled ammonium and pH levels. Results showed that free nitrous acid (FNA) was an important factor that inhibited ammonia oxidation and the cometabolic biodegradation of favipiravir induced by ammonia oxidizing bacteria (AOB).

The traditional hydrometallurgy technology has been widely used to recover precious metals from electronic waste. However, such aqueous recycling systems often employ toxic/harsh chemicals, which may cause serious environmental problems. Herein, an efficient and environment-friendly method using a deep eutectic solvent (DES) mixed system of choline chloride-ethylene glycol-CuCl·2HO is developed for gold (Au) recovery from flexible printed circuit boards (FPCBs).

The actual DOM in Chaohu Lake was used to feed cyanobacterial to explore the changes of microbial communities, fluorescence spectral characteristics and molecular composition of DOM during the degradation of cyanobacteria. It is found that cyanobacterial grow periodically depending on the concentration of nutrients with the decreasing concentration of nutrient salts. Both Bacteroidetes and Actinobacteria have strong correlation with algae growth.

Recovering resources from wastewater to alleviate the energy crisis has become the prevailing trend of technological development. Purple phototrophic bacteria (PPB), a group of fast-growing microbes, have been widely noticed for their potential in producing value-added products from waste streams. However, saline contents in these waste streams, such as food processing wastewater pose a big challenge, which not only restrain the pollutant removal efficiency, but also hinder the growth of functional microbes.

Feast-famine (FF) regimes improved the removal of recalcitrant pharmaceuticals in moving bed biofilm reactors (MBBRs), but the optimal FF cycle remained unresolved. The effects of FF cycle time on the removal of bulk substrates (organic carbon and nitrogen) and trace pharmaceuticals by MBBR are systematically evaluated in this study. The feast to famine ratio was fixed to 1:2 to keep the same loading rate, but the time for the FF cycles varied from 18 h to 288 h.
