Greenhouse cultivation has been expanding rapidly in recent years, yet little knowledge exists on its global extent and expansion. Using commercial and freely available satellite data combined with artificial intelligence techniques, we present a global assessment of greenhouse cultivation coverage and map 1.3 million hectares of greenhouse infrastructures in 2019, a much larger extent than previously estimated.

Particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter of less than 1 μm (PM) can be extremely hazardous to human health, so it is imperative to accurately estimate the spatial and temporal distribution of PM and analyze the impact of related policies on it. In this study, a stacking generalization model was trained based on aerosol optical depth (AOD) data from satellite observations, combined with related data affecting aerosol concentration such as meteorological data and geographic data. Using this model, the PM concentration distribution in China during 2016-2019 was estimated, and verified by comparison with ground-based stations.

Beyond tobacco smoking, radon takes its place as the second most significant contributor to lung cancer, excluding hereditary and other biologically related factors. Radon and its byproducts play a pivotal role in exposing humans to elevated levels of natural radiation. Approximately 10-20 % of lung cancer cases worldwide can be attributed to radon exposure, leading to between 3 % and 20 % of all lung cancer-related deaths.

A robust method to quantify dynamic population exposure to PM among taxi drivers is important for occupational risk prevention, however, it is limited by data availability.
Methods: This study proposed a rapid assessment of dynamic exposure to PM among drivers based on satellite-derived information, air quality data from monitoring stations, and GPS-based taxi trajectory data.

Objectives: The purpose of our study was to assess the multiscalar changes in leprosy burden and its associated risk factors over the last three decades.
Study Design: We conducted an in-depth examination of leprosy's spatial-temporal trends at multiple geographical scale (global, regional, and national), utilizing information from Global Burden of Disease, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD 2019).
Methods: Incidence and the estimated annual percentage change (EAPC) in age-standardized incidence rate (ASIR) of leprosy were determined, with countries categorized based on leprosy incidence changes.

"Nongrain" production on cultivated land is one of the primary environmental issues in China. Different "nongrain" activities may introduce different pollution sources to the local environment, leading to variations in heavy metal contents in soil, which can profoundly impact national food security. In this study, three typical "nongrain" regions (Nanxun (NX), Xiaoshan (XS) and Lin'an (LA)) with intensive aquaculture, tea planting and flower (seedling) growth on cultivated land around the Hangzhou metropolitan area were selected to address the spatial heterogeneity of accumulation levels, sources and source-oriented health risks of heavy metals in soil.

Multi-spectral imaging technologies have made great progress in the past few decades. The long-term dynamic comprehensive evaluation of the water resource carrying capacity (WRCC) and the analysis of its potential driving mechanism in arid areas are contemporary research issues and technical means of mitigating and coordinating the conflict between severe resource shortages and human needs. The purpose of this study was to explore the distribution of the WRCC and the spatiotemporal heterogeneity of drivers in arid areas based on an improved two-dimensional spatiotemporal dynamic evaluation model. The results show that (1) the spatial distribution of the WRCC in Xinjiang, China, is high in the north, low in the south, high in the west, and low in the east.

Satellite vegetation index (VI) products, such as normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and enhanced vegetation index (EVI), have been widely used. However, they are severely contaminated by clouds and other factors and provide false signals of the surface vegetation conditions. This paper focuses on the change of morphing capabilities for a unimorph deformable mirror impacted by environmental factors, which works in space for active optics applications. Various aspects of disturbing sources are considered, including complex thermal and mechanical conditions on ferroelectric behaviours of strain actuation, and influences of preconfigured initial shapes and stress-induced geometric stiffness on the structural rigidity of the mirror; changes on both the perturbed shape and the Jacobian matrix are discussed. Those variations are regarded as uncertainties in the design of control methods with both open-loop and iterative control strategies tested in the quasi-static range.

In the current research, the question of how to modify the microclimate through landscape planning to create a livable thermal environment within a residential community area has not been clarified. Therefore, this study investigated the effects of landscape on thermal livability in 2980 communities in Shenzhen, and obtained the following findings: (1) the proportion of trees and the average building height were key indicators to determine the average land surface temperature (LST) of a community, while the two-dimensional building characteristics, particularly shape, similarity, and patch dominance, were mainly responsible for regulating the spatial distribution of LST within a community; (2) at the community scale, the cooling intensity of buildings was strongest when their average height was around 40-60 m, and cooling effect of trees was most pronounced when their proportion achieved 20 %; and (3) the LST threshold for thermal livability in Shenzhen was around 35 °C. In summer, a higher proportion of trees and grass, as well as buildings with higher average heights, larger volume ratios, and more complex three-dimensional structures were favorable to maintain a livable community thermal environment, while in winter, a lower proportion of trees was more encouraged.
