We have studied both experimentally and theoretically the reprogrammable spin wave band structure in Permalloy(10 nm)/Cu(5 nm)/Permalloy(30 nm) nanowire arrays of width w = 280 nm and inter-wire separation in the range from 80 to 280 nm. We found that, depending on the inter-wire separation, the anti-parallel configuration, where the magnetizations of the two Permalloy layers point in opposite directions, is stabilized over specific magnetic field ranges thus enabling us to directly compare the band structure with that of the parallel alignment. We show that collective spin waves of the Bloch type propagate through the arrays with different magnonic bandwidths as a consequence of the interplay between the intra- and inter-nanowire dynamic dipolar interactions.

We use terahertz imaging to measure four human skin scars in vivo. Clear contrast between the refractive index of the scar and surrounding tissue was observed for all of the scars, despite some being difficult to see with the naked eye. Additionally, we monitored the healing process of a hypertrophic scar.

Background: Derivation of dose-volume correlated with toxicity for multi-modal treatments can be difficult due to the perceived need for voxel-by-voxel dose accumulation. With data available for a single-institution cohort with long follow-up, an investigation was undertaken into rectal dose-volume effects for gastrointestinal toxicities after deformably-registering each phase of a combined external beam radiotherapy (EBRT)/high-dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy prostate treatment.
Methods: One hundred and eighteen patients received EBRT in 23 fractions of 2 Gy and HDR (TG43 algorithm) in 3 fractions of 6.

Background: Registering CTs for patients receiving external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) with a boost dose from high-dose-rate brachytherapy (HDR) can be challenging due to considerable image discrepancies (e.g. rectal fillings, HDR needles, HDR artefacts and HDR rectal packing materials).

We present a theory for surface polaritons on ferroelectric-antiferromagnetic materials with canted spin structure. A small uniform canted moment is allowed, resulting in a weak ferromagnetism directed in the plane parallel to the surface. Surface and bulk polariton modes for a semi-infinite film are calculated for the case of transverse electric (TE) and transverse magnetic (TM) polarization.

Local magnetic ordering in artificial spin ices is discussed from the point of view of how geometrical frustration controls dynamics and the approach to steady state. We discuss the possibility of using a particle picture based on vertex configurations to interpret the time evolution of magnetic configurations. Analysis of possible vertex processes allows us to anticipate different behaviors for open and closed edges and the existence of different field regimes.

We report on a noise measurement system with the highest spectral resolution ever achieved in the microwave domain. It is capable of detecting the phase fluctuations in rms amplitude of 2x10(-11) rad/sqrt Hz at Fourier frequencies above a few kilohertz. Such precision allows the study of intrinsic fluctuations in various microwave components and materials, as well as precise tests of fundamental physics.

We present the first results from a rotating Michelson-Morley experiment that uses two orthogonally orientated cryogenic sapphire resonator oscillators operating in whispering gallery modes near 10 GHz. The experiment is used to test for violations of Lorentz invariance in the framework of the photon sector of the standard model extension (SME), as well as the isotropy term of the Robertson-Mansouri-Sexl (RMS) framework. In the SME we set a new bound on the previously unmeasured kappa(ZZ)(e-) component of 2.
