Advancements in guided surgical endodontics: A scoping review of case report and case series and research implications.

This scoping review examined current case series and reports on guided surgical endodontic applications in order to provide a critical platform for future research. Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) extension for scoping reviews guidelines were followed. A search on PubMed and Scopus yielded 611 articles, with 17 case reports and 1 series meeting inclusion criteria.

Aim: For a few years, teledentistry has been an emerging innovative strategy with potential in the field of paediatric dentistry. There are still few studies in this regard, so further research is needed to verify and ensure that teledentistry is not only an accessible mode of communication, but above all effective and evidence-based. This study aimed to use a preliminary telematic approach to promote the compliance of patients in the developmental age during the first dental visit.

Comparative study on biomechanical behavior of zirconia and polyetheretherketone biomaterials exposed to experimental loading conditions in a prototypal simulator.

Zirconia and polyetheretherketone (PEEK) are two biomaterials widely investigated as substitute for metals in oral prosthetic rehabilitation. To achieve a proper biomechanical behavior, the prosthetic biomaterials must ensure a good resistance to loads, as this is a crucial characteristic enabling their use in dental applications. The aim of this study was to investigate differences in the fracture resistance of different biomaterials in an experimental environment: fixed partial dentures (FPDs) screwed in a prototype of biomimetic mandible.

In this study, the features and the biological activities of an acellular porcine dermis collagen matrix membrane applicable during dental surgery were investigated, and also by applying hydration with NaCl. Thus, two tested membranes were distinguished, the H-Membrane and Membrane, compared to the control cell culture plastic.

Life-threatening mandibular angle gigantic osteoma presenting with severe dyspnoea.

Osteoma is a benign osteogenic tumour. Solitary osteoma of the jaws usually involves the mandible and commonly remains asymptomatic. Purpose of this article is to report a case of life-threatening gigantic mandibular osteoma in an edentulous woman in her 70s developed in the lingual side of the mandibular angle presenting at emergency department with dyspnoea and discuss the correct management of the patient and the surgical approach for space occupying mass in the pharapharyngeal space.

Radiographic and Histomorphologic Evaluation of the Maxillary Bone after Crestal Mini Sinus Lift Using Absorbable Collagen-Retrospective Evaluation.

Background: After tooth extraction, the alveolar bone loses volume in height and width over time, meaning that reconstructive procedures may be necessary to perform implant placement. In the maxilla, to increase the bone volume, a mini-invasive surgery, such as a sinus lift using the crestal approach, could be performed.

Methods: A crestal approach was used in this study to perform the sinus lift, fracturing the bone and inserting collagen (Condress).

Background: Short implants (up to 5-mm long) have shown good results when compared to longer implants placed in augmented bone.

Purpose: To evaluate if 4-mm ultrashort implants could also be an alternative to bone augmentation in the severely atrophic posterior jaws. The primary aim of the study was to compare implant survival rates between study groups.

Clinical treatment outcome of MRONJ (medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw) surgery despite radical osseous removal and primary closure healing still shows differences in terms of outcome and disease recurrence. The study aims to assess the rate of angiogenesis of MRONJ lesions in order to understand the impact of angiogenesis and neoangiogenesis status on MRONJ surgical treatment outcome. This is the first study correlating microvessel density with prognosis in MRONJ surgically-treated patients.

Cancer Patients at Risk for Medication-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaw. A Case and Control Study Analyzing Predictors of MRONJ Onset.

The goal of this investigation was to identify potential risk factors to predict the onset of medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ). Through the identification of the multiple variables positively associated to MRONJ, we aim to write a paradigm for integrated MRONJ risk assessment built on the combined analysis of systemic and local risk factors. The characteristics of a cohort of cancer patients treated with zoledronic acid and/or denosumab were investigated; beyond the set of proven risk factors a new potential one, the intake of new molecules for cancer therapy, was addressed.

Dynamic Navigated "Sandwich" Technique: A Novel Surgical Approach for Safe Osteotomies in the Rehabilitation of an Atrophic Posterior Mandible: A Case Report.

A 56-year-old female patient with vertical atrophy of the right posterior mandible was treated adopting an interpositional bone block approach using a cancellous heterologous bone block. Osteotomies of the patient's mandible were performed with the help of dynamic computer-assisted surgery using virtual anatomical patient information obtained from a cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). The use of the dynamic computer-assisted surgery allowed authors to perform the horizontal osteotomy line as planned preoperatively on the CBCT virtual reconstruction, trying to minimize the risks of the inlay technique.

Analysis of short-term results regarding dimensional stability of post-extraction sockets managed via a preservation protocol using deproteinized bovine bone matrix and a xenogeneic collagen matrix. Materials and methods Fifteen patients needing extraction of one single-rooted premolar tooth were treated in a pilot study. Five patients were treated in each centre.

Cemental tear: An overlooked finding associated with rapid periodontal destruction. A case series.

Cemental tear is defined as cementum fragment completely or partially detached from the root surface, and it has been associated with localized rapid periodontal breakdown. Although history of trauma and/or attrition may be risk factors, the etiopathology of cemental tear remains unknown. This case series aims to discuss the clinical, radiographic and histopathologic features of cemental tears to aid clinicians in making differential diagnosis.

To that end, the current literature was searched and a narrative review was conducted.
