Thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy (TAO) is a significant autoimmune eye disease known for causing exophthalmos and substantial optic nerve damage. Prior investigations have solely focused on static functional MRI (fMRI) scans of the brain in TAO patients, neglecting the assessment of temporal variations in local brain activity. This study aimed to characterize alterations in dynamic regional homogeneity (dReHo) in TAO patients and differentiate between TAO patients and healthy controls using support vector machine (SVM) classification.

The increasing incidence of myopia has become a global public health concern. Exploring the mechanisms underlying the onset and progression of myopia is crucial for prevention and control. This paper reviews the role of peripheral retinal defocus mechanisms in the development of myopia, with particular emphasis on the interaction between accommodation lag and peripheral retinal defocus, as well as the impact of optical intervention on myopia control effectiveness.

Aim of this study was to explore the optimal training interval and times of microperimetric biofeedback training (MBFT) in maculopathies. Twenty-nine patients with maculopathies were divided into two groups: daily training (Group A) or alternate daily training (Group B). Both groups underwent 15 MBFT sessions.

The development of a natural, additive-free, absorbable sponge with procoagulant activity for noncompressible hemostasis remains a challenging task. In this study, we extracted high molecular weight keratin (HK) from human hair and transformed it into a hemostatic sponge with a well-interconnected pore structure using a foaming technique, freeze-drying, and oxidation cross-linking. By controlling the cross-linking degree, the resulting sponge demonstrated excellent liquid absorption ability, shape recovery characteristics, and robust mechanical properties.

Background: X-linked juvenile retinoschisis (XLRS) is an inherited disease caused by RS1 gene mutation, which leads to retinal splitting and visual impairment. The mechanism of RS1-associated retinal degeneration is not fully understood. Besides, animal models of XLRS have limitations in the study of XLRS.

Within the population of humans with otherwise normal vision, there exists some proportion whose ability to perceive depth from binocular disparity is poor or absent. The prevalence of this "stereo-anomaly" has been reported to be as small as 2%, or as great as 30%. We set out to investigate this discrepancy.

The enhancement of detection sensitivity in microfluidic sensors has been a continuously explored field. Initially, many strategies for sensitivity improvement involved introducing enzyme cascade reactions, but enzyme-based reactions posed challenges in terms of cost, stability, and storage. Therefore, there is an urgent need to explore enzyme-free cascade amplification methods, which are crucial for expanding the application range and improving detection stability.

Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) have emerged as a promising approach for generating electricity and providing electrical stimuli in medical electronic devices. Despite their potential benefits, the clinical implementation of TENGs faces challenges such as skin compliance and a lack of comprehensive assessment regarding their biosafety and efficacy. Therefore, further research is imperative to overcome these limitations and unlock the full potential of TENGs in various biomedical applications.

Retinoschisin (RS1) is a secretory protein specifically localized to the extracellular domains in both the lateral retina and the pineal gland (PG). However, the functions of RS1 in the pineal body are poorly understood. To address this knowledge gap, in this study, we undertook histochemical, ultrastructural, and Western blotting analyses of the PG in rats and RS1-knock-in transgenic.

The thermal stability of DNA immobilized on a solid surface is one of the factors that affects the efficiency of solid-phase amplification (SP-PCR). Although variable temperature amplification ensures high specificity of the reaction by precisely controlling temperature changes, excessively high temperatures during denaturation can negatively affect DNA stability. Formamide (FA) enables DNA denaturation at lower temperatures, showing potential for SP-PCR.

Purpose: Non-adherence to standard wear, care, and follow-up procedures is a major risk factor for contact lens-related complications. The effectiveness of orthokeratology largely depends on the wearer's adherence. However, a deficiency in scales capturing adherence beliefs pertinent to orthokeratology exacerbates the lack of guidance for effective intervention strategies.

Biomimetic nanoparticles represent a promising avenue for mitigating rapid clearance by the reticuloendothelial system (RES); however, current challenges include insufficient tumour targeting, suboptimal adhesion, and inadequate localized drug release within tumour regions. These shortcomings contribute to persistent contests, such as recurrence and pulmonary metastasis, even with advanced breast cancer therapies. Stimuli-sensitive drug release can furbish the membrane coated nanoparticles for their efficiency against the stated problems.

Singleton-Merten syndrome (SMS) is a rare immunogenetic disorder affecting multiple systems, characterized by dental dysplasia, aortic calcification, glaucoma, skeletal abnormalities, and psoriasis. Glaucoma, a key feature of both classical and atypical SMS, remains poorly understood in terms of its molecular mechanism caused by DDX58 mutation. This study presented a novel DDX58 variant (c.

Subconjunctival fibrosis is the major cause of failure in both conventional and modern minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries (MIGSs) with subconjunctival filtration. The search for safe and effective anti-fibrotic agents is critical for improving long-term surgical outcomes. In this study, we investigated the effect of inhibiting the rapamycin-insensitive mTORC1/4E-BP1 axis on the transforming growth factor-beta 1(TGF-β1)-induced fibrotic responses in human Tenon's fibroblasts (HTFs), as well as in a rat model of glaucoma filtration surgery (GFS).
