Background: In Germany, digital transformation and legal regulations are leading to the need to integrate digital technologies into the nursing profession. In addition, to nursing practice, they are also being incorporated into nursing training. Despite comprehensive regulations regarding the use of digital teaching and learning media in nursing education, their specific applicability and implementation vary.

The Necessity of Palliative Care Interventions in Emergency Departments: A Literature Review.

Palliative care, a beacon of relief and comfort, ensures the best quality of life for patients nearing death, a patient population that often presents to emergency departments, by providing interventions to promote comfort and support final wishes. The purpose of this literature review was to examine the outcomes of palliative care interventions for adult patients with chronic illnesses who have died in emergency departments. The literature review was conducted in CINAHL, PubMed, SCOPUS, OVID, and APA Psych using the keywords "palliative," "emergency department," "adult," and "chronic disease.

Effect of nirmatrelvir/ritonavir (Paxlovid) on hospitalization among adults with COVID-19: An electronic health record-based target trial emulation from N3C.

Background: Nirmatrelvir with ritonavir (Paxlovid) is indicated for patients with Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) who are at risk for progression to severe disease due to the presence of one or more risk factors. Millions of treatment courses have been prescribed in the United States alone. Paxlovid was highly effective at preventing hospitalization and death in clinical trials.

Experiences and perceptions of respectful maternity care among mothers during childbirth in health facilities of Eastern province of Rwanda: An appreciative inquiry.

Introduction: The World Health Organization (WHO) has emphasized the importance of ensuring respectful and dignified childbirth experiences. However, many countries, including Rwanda, have documented negative experiences during childbirth. Identifying best practices can help uncover sustainable solutions for resource-limited settings rather than focusing solely on the challenges and negative aspects.

The severity of coronary heart disease and the incidence of later diabetic retinopathy in diabetic population: A retrospective cohort study.

Objectives: The coronary heart disease (CHD) can influence the development of several diseases. The presence of CHD is correlated to a higher incidence of concurrent diabetic retinopathy (DR) in previous study. Herein, we aim to analyze the relationship between the CHD severity and following DR with different severity.

A Correlational Study of Burnout and Mitigating Psychological Factors in Undergraduate Nursing Students.

Background: Evidence indicates that many nursing students exhibit signs of burnout and consider leaving nursing during nursing school. However, there is scant literature on the extent of this problem or mitigating factors.

Method: Undergraduate nursing students ( = 129) participated in a correlational study examining patterns of burnout and Psychological Capital (PsyCap), a four-pronged construct that captures hope, efficacy, resilience, and optimism.

Modeling in Nursing: A Handbook Template for Professional Identity in Schools of Nursing.

Background: The Professional Identity in Nursing Initiative began in 2018 to explore how concepts and language regarding professional identity formation could positively affect nursing education, practice, and regulation. In 2023, faculty from two nursing schools used the International Society for Professional Identity in Nursing (ISPIN) definitions and domains to incorporate professional identity in nursing language in a template for a nursing student handbook.

Method: Faculty evaluated the professional identity in nursing model and replaced the framework for professionalism in the school of nursing's handbook.

Workload-capacity imbalances and their impact on self-management complexity in patients with multimorbidity: a multicenter cross-sectional study.

Introduction: Multimorbidity is increasing globally, emphasizing the need for effective self-management strategies. The Cumulative Complexity Model (CuCoM) offers a unique perspective on understanding self-management based on workload and capacity. This study aims to validate the CuCoM in multimorbid patients and identify tailored predictors of self-management.

Effectiveness of behavioural and psychological interventions for managing obesity in children and adolescents: A systematic review and meta-analysis framed using minimal important difference estimates based on GRADE guidance to inform a clinical practice guideline.

Objective: Conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of behavioural and psychological interventions for managing paediatric obesity.

Methods: Eligible studies, published between 1985 and 2022, included 0 to 18 year olds with outcomes reported ≥3 months post-baseline, including patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), cardiometabolic and anthropometric outcomes, and adverse events (AEs). We pooled data using a random effects model and assessed certainty of evidence (CoE) related to minimally important difference estimates for outcomes using GRADE.

The Lived Experience of Nurses in Conserving the Dignity of Patients With Life-Limiting Illnesses.

To explore the experiences of nurses in maintaining the dignity of patients with life-limiting illnesses. A phenomenological study was conducted with 15 purposively selected nurses who provide care for patients with life-limiting illnesses. Colaizzi's naturalistic phenomenological approach was utilized to analyze the data.

Predictors of willingness to participate in COVID-19 clinical trials among Black and Latino adults.

Introduction: Black and Latino individuals are underrepresented in COVID-19 treatment and vaccine clinical trials, calling for an examination of factors that may predict willingness to participate in trials.

Methods: We administered the Common Survey 2.0 developed by the Community Engagement Alliance (CEAL) Against COVID-19 Disparities to 600 Black and Latino adults in Baltimore City, Prince George's County, Maryland, Montgomery County, Maryland, and Washington, DC, between October and December 2021.

Aggressive behavior in adolescent patients with mental disorders: what we can do.

Background: Aggressive behavior in adolescent patients is a common phenomenon in clinical treatment and nursing care. The objective of this study was to conduct an assessment of the prevailing patterns and determinants of aggressive behavior among adolescents with mental disorders, with the intent to offer valuable insights for enhancing clinical intervention and nursing practices.

Methods: Adolescent patients with mental disorders admitted to the psychiatric department of Suzhou Guangji Hospital from January 1, 2022, to June 30, 2024 were included.

Experiences of Patients and Families Living with Krabbe Disease.

The challenges faced by patients with Krabbe disease remain unelucidated. This study aimed to identify these challenges and facilitate the development of methods for assessing the quality of life. This qualitative descriptive study used in-person or online semistructured interviews from March to December 2022 using a qualitative content analysis approach.

The Complete Inpatient Record Using Comprehensive Electronic Data (CIRCE) project: A team-based approach to clinically validated, research-ready electronic health record data.

Introduction: The rapid adoption of electronic health record (EHR) systems has resulted in extensive archives of data relevant to clinical research, hospital operations, and the development of learning health systems. However, EHR data are not frequently available, cleaned, standardized, validated, and ready for use by stakeholders. We describe an in-progress effort to overcome these challenges with cooperative, systematic data extraction and validation.

Using gaming to prepare health professional students to practice systems thinking.

Background: Healthcare professionals face numerous challenges regarding the delivery of care. Creating solutions to these challenges is imperative to improve the quality and safety of care to positively impact patient outcomes. However, health professional students rarely receive formal training regarding systems thinking during didactic components of their professional training.

Dementia and Cognitive Impairment in an Urban Multiethnic Indigenous Community from Amazonas.

Introduction: Studies about dementia in Indigenous communities are still scarce worldwide, especially in low-middle-income countries, limiting timely intervention in minority groups. Our research aimed to bridge this gap by determining the prevalence of dementia and mild cognitive impairment no dementia (CIND), and the associated factors, in a multiethnic Indigenous community in Manaus, Brazil.

Methods: A cross-sectional observational study evaluated the cognitive and functional performances of 141 Indigenous individuals (aged 50 and above).

Knowledge of obstetric danger signs and its associated factors among husbands residing in the Raya Kobo district, Ethiopia.

Background: The term "danger signs" refers to any symptoms or indicators that suggest a pregnant woman may be at risk during pregnancy. Mothers are often burdened with responsibilities, and the majority of them do not even receive treatment for potential complications, which can ultimately lead to the loss of their lives. This situation highlights the barriers that prevent them from being properly prepared for potential risks.

Policy analysis: Key milestones in MDR-TB management over the past decade in South Africa.

Background: Significant strides have been made globally and in South Africa (SA) in the policy and biomedical management of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB). However, MDR-TB remains a significant public health threat.

Aim: This policy content analysis aims to explore the key milestones in MDR-TB management in SA and globally over the last decade, 2013-2023, to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement.

Comparison of sample characteristics of Wisconsin Alzheimer's Disease Research Center participants with the Wisconsin state population-An evaluation of the recruitment effort.

Introduction: Understanding how a research sample compares to the population from which it is drawn can help inform future recruitment planning. We compared the Wisconsin Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (WADRC) participant sample to the Wisconsin state population (WI-pop) on key demographic, social exposome, and vascular risk measures.

Methods: The WADRC sample included 930 participants.

Application value of continuous nursing in the treatment of obese patients with laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy.

Aim: To explore the value and effectiveness of continuous nursing in obese patients undergoing laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy.

Methods: A total of 164 obese patients who were admitted to Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital and underwent planned laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy in 2022 were retrospectively selected as the control group, and another 164 obese patients undergoing the same surgery in 2022 were chosen as the research group. The control group received routine care, while the research group received continuous nursing care.

Effectiveness of 'Internet Plus' remote management in improving cardiac rehabilitation outcomes in acute myocardial infarction patients.

Objectives: This study evaluated the effectiveness of "Internet Plus" remote management in enhancing cardiac rehabilitation outcomes for patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).

Methods: A total of 101 AMI patients post-PCI from Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital were included between December 2021 and November 2022. Patients were retrospectively categorized into two groups based on the type of care they received: the control group receiving standard post-PCI rehabilitation, and the observation group receiving remote management via "Internet Plus" for six months.

Effect of group management on disease cognition and fear of disease progression, nutritional status, and quality of life in patients with head and neck tumors.

Objective: To investigate the effect of group guided training management on disease cognition and fear of disease progression, nutritional status, and quality of life in patients undergoing chemotherapy for head and neck tumors.

Methods: A total of 88 patients diagnosed with malignant head and neck tumors who were admitted to Beijing Tongren Hospital, Capital Medical University from January 2020 to February 2021 were included as the subjects of this study. Patients receiving standard care were set as the control group (n=43), and patients undergoing group education were set as the study group (n=45).

Influences of Cultural Factors on Vaccination Practices Among Parents Prior to School Age: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Understanding the cultural influences on parents in Saudi Arabia regarding adherence to childhood vaccination programs is crucial for the health and safety of the whole society. This study aims to explore the impact of cultural factors on parents' attitudes toward vaccinating children before school age. A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted on cross-sectional and interventional studies.

Cultural Effects on the Performance of Older Haitian Immigrants on Timed Cognitive Tests.

Background: Ignoring the cultural factors that can affect performance on cognitive tests may result in use of tests that have not been validated for that group. One example is testing of Haitian Creole speaking adults who are increasingly affected by Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, for whom few tests have been validated.

Aims: Our purpose is to describe differences in timed test performance between Haitian Creole and English-speaking participants and explore factors that may account for any differences in results found.

Inequity in Washington state covid-19-related crowdfunding.

The first seven months of the US COVID-19 pandemic saw a massive increase in COVID-19-related crowdfunding campaigns. Despite their popularity, these campaigns were rarely successful in reaching their monetary goals, with nearly 40% of them not receiving a single donation. Previous research has indicated that crowdfunding has increased inequities and disparities in wealth, and this study set out to examine the situation in Washington State, an area greatly divided socio-economically, culturally, and geographically.
