The health and well-being of children with medical complexity and their parents' when admitted to inpatient care units: A scoping review.

Children with medical complexity (CMC) are regularly admitted to inpatient care units to receive medical care. While admissions for CMC and their parents can negatively impact their health and well-being, mapping of evidence in this area appears underreported. A scoping review using the Joanna Briggs Institute methodology was conducted to map evidence on CMC and parents' experiences of care.

Combination of reverse shock index and simplified motor score as a strong discriminator of trauma outcomes.

Background: The reverse shock index multiplied by simplified motor score (rSI-sMS) is a novel and rapid measure for assessing injury severity in patients with trauma in prehospital settings; however, its discriminant ability requires further validation.

Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted from trauma database of Taipei Tzu Chi Hospital to compare the accuracy of the rSI-sMS with that of the shock index, modified shock index, reverse shock index multiplied by the Glasgow Coma Scale (rSI-GCS), and the reverse shock index multiplied by GCS motor subscale (rSI-GCSM) for discriminating in-hospital mortality, intensive care unit (ICU) admissions, prolonged ICU stays ≥14 days, and prolonged hospital stays ≥30 days in patients with trauma.

Results: A total of 11,760 patients from the trauma database were included.

Effects of Personalized DiaBetes TEXT Messaging Combined with Peer Support Education on Patients With Type 2 Diabetes: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

Background: To investigate the effects of personalized DiaBetes TEXT messaging combined with Peer Support Education (DB-TEXT+ PSE) on clinical outcomes in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Methods: An assessor-blinded, three-arm randomized controlled trial recruited 84 participants between December 2022 and July 2023. Participants were randomly assigned to a DB-TEXT + PSE group, a DB-TEXT group, or a professional education program (PEP) group.

HIF-1α/HO-1-Mediated Ferroptosis Participates in Polystyrene Nanoplastics-Induced Intergenerational Cardiotoxicity.

To explore the intergenerational cardiotoxicity of nanoplastics, maternal mice were exposed to 60 nm polystyrene nanoplastics (PS-NP) during pregnancy and lactation. The results showed that PS-NP can enter the hearts of offspring and induce myocardial fiber arrangement disorder, acidophilic degeneration of cardiomyocytes, and elevated creatine kinase isoenzymes (CK-MB) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels after maternal exposure to PS-NP at 100 mg/kg during pregnancy and lactation. Mechanistically, KEGG analysis of RNA sequencing showed the participation of hypoxia-inducible factor-1 (HIF-1) and ferroptosis in PS-NP-induced cardiotoxicity.

Conducted between 17 December 2023 and 1 January 2024, this mixed-methods cross-sectional study employed Knowledge and Attitudes of Legalizing Surrogacy (KALS) questionnaire. This instrument assessed opinions and ethical considerations on various aspects including ethics and children's rights, surrogate health, offspring welfare, and social justice.

Development and validation of a prognostic model for critically ill type 2 diabetes patients in ICU based on composite inflammatory indicators.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder, and critically ill patients with T2DM in intensive care unit (ICU) have an increased risk of mortality. In this study, we investigated the relationship between nine inflammatory indicators and prognosis in critically ill patients with T2DM to provide a clinical reference for assessing the prognosis of patients admitted to the ICU.
