Objective: To examine the associations of accelerometer-measured physical activity and sedentary time with all-cause mortality in older Japanese adults.

Methods: A total of 1723 independent Japanese adults aged ≥65 years were followed from 2011 to 2021. Moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA), light physical activity (LPA) and sedentary time were measured using a triaxial accelerometer secured to participants' waists.

Cardiovascular risk factors begin in childhood and track into adulthood, increasing the possibility of impaired cardiometabolic health. Adopting healthy dietary patterns can help curb childhood obesity, a worrisome epidemic problem at present. In the era of personalized nutrition, dietary recommendations should be adapted to different stages of life, including children (older than 3 years) and adolescents.

Comparing Midline and Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters-A Randomized Feasibility Trial.

Objectives: The most effective use of midline catheters in children is not understood. We aimed to (1) test the feasibility of a trial comparing peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs) to midline catheters in hospitalized children in need of durable vascular access and (2) collect preliminary effectiveness data of the 2 devices.

Methods: Our study combined a single site, randomized controlled feasibility trial (RCT, primary study) and a prospective observational study (alternative study) comparing PICCs to midline catheters.

The rapid shallow breathing index (RSBI) as a predictor for extubation success in medical and surgical ICU patients: A retrospective cohort study.

Background: Endotracheal intubation and mechanical ventilation comprise common life support interventions for patients in intensive care units (ICUs). Premature or delayed extubation increases the risk of morbidity and mortality. Despite following weaning protocols, 10-20 % of patients fail extubation within 48 h.

A cross-country network analysis of disease infodemics: Looking through the lens of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Infodemics surrounding pandemics and epidemics have persisted for centuries and continue to impede efforts to promote high vaccination coverage. We explored the complex interplay between COVID-19 vaccination attitudes and COVID-19-related infodemics across Germany, Ghana, India, and New Zealand using the novel network analysis. We conducted an online cross-sectional survey and recruited 1822 participants from the general populations of India (n = 411), New Zealand (n = 413), Ghana (n = 523), and Germany (n = 413) to complete COVID-19 infodemic measures and demographics questions.

Methods: Totally 142 patients were involved, images using SS-EPI and the prototype iShim-EPI were acquired before injection of gadoxetic acid-enhanced liver MRI.Image quality of demarcation of liver capsule, resolution, lesion distortion, artifacts, lesion confidence score, and signal loss in left hepatic lobe was assessed by two radiologists.

Augmented reality in intensive care nursing education: A scoping review.

Objectives: This scoping review aimed to identify existing literature on the application of augmented reality (AR) in the intensive care unit (ICU) and analyse its current state of play regarding hands-on skills.

Background: Active learner engagement can greatly enrich educational outcomes. With the rise of immersive and interactive technologies, AR is progressively integrated into nursing education to enhance this aspect.

Aim: To explore different types of interprofessional education (IPE) teaching strategies used in pre-licensure interprofessional learning programmes and the effective components of these strategies in promoting student learning, IPE skills, behavioural change, organisational practice, or patient health outcomes.

Background: IPE is rapidly becoming a core element of health professions preparation programmes worldwide, but the differential effects of different ways of delivering IPE are not well documented.

Development of a drug allergy alert tiering algorithm for penicillins and cephalosporins.

Introduction: Limited research is available regarding recommendations about which drug allergy alerts (DAAs) in clinical decision support (CDS) systems should interrupt provider workflow. The objective was to evaluate the frequency of penicillin and cephalosporin DAA overrides at two institutions. A secondary objective was to redesign DAAs using a new tiered alerting system based on patient factors.

The impact of ACOG's 39-week rule on fetal death rates in the United States: A systematic review.

Objective: The "39-week rule," implemented in August 2009, strongly discouraged early term deliveries before 39 weeks without accepted ACOG delivery indications. In this study, we evaluated fetal death rates before and after the 39-week rule in the United States (US) by review of published series.

Study Design: Systematic literature searches were performed in PubMed, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Embase, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Web of Science, and Scopus databases (January 2009-June 2023).

Risk of mortality by aggression: A retrospective cohort study in women with notification of interpersonal violence in Brazil.

Objectives: The present study investigated the incidence of mortality by aggression in women who experienced interpersonal violence. The study also aimed identify whether intimate partner violence (IPV) was associated with the risk of death by aggression.

Study Design: This was a population-based retrospective cohort study linking data from the National Disease Notification System and the Mortality Information System.

Harmonizing excellence: Crafting the nexus of competencies, standards, and degree demands in nurse practitioner education.

Nurse practitioner (NP) programs have a long history of producing safe and competent NPs; however, bold, transformative leadership is needed to set a minimum standard for quality NP education to support a 21st-century healthcare system. This paper is a call to action for leaders in NP education to transition NP education to the DNP degree utilizing the 2022 National Task Force Standards for Quality NP Education and a competency-based approach as defined in the 2021 AACN Essentials. There is now an opportunity to redesign healthcare systems with quality and equity as a primary consideration and DNP-prepared NPs are positioned to lead this redesign.

Conceptualizing self-reported adverse childhood experiences: From epidemiologic exposure to psychometric latent variable.

In this paper, we apply a measurement science perspective to explore both the epidemiologic and psychometric frameworks for the conceptualization, operationalization and assessment of self-reported adverse childhood experiences (srACEs). The epidemiologic paradigm suggests that srACEs are 'exposures', while the psychometric paradigm views responses on srACEs instrumentation as 'indicators'. It is the central premise of this paper that srACEs cannot be both exposures and indicators of scales.

Sensory reweighting for balance in people living with Parkinson's Disease: Postural adaptation, muscle co-contraction, and perceptual delays.

Background: Postural instability is common in people with Parkinson's Disease (PwPD), increasing their risk of injurious falls. Evidence suggests a sensory reweighting deficit in PwPD, along with compensatory muscle co-contraction in response to postural challenges. During balance tasks requiring sensory reweighting, older adults exhibit elevated postural sway and muscle co-contraction, as well as longer perceptual delays, compared to young adults.

From aspiration to achievements: Exploring the motivational drives behind female graduate nursing students' pursuit of higher education in Ghana.

Background: The nursing and midwifery professions are predominantly female. In Sub-saharan Africa, especially in Ghana, females have traditionally been perceived as homemakers who do not require higher education to play their roles. This phenomenon perpetuates gender inequality, underutilises talents, and denies women opportunities for personal and professional growth.

Development and psychometric testing of the school-life conflict scale (SLCS) among nursing students.

Background: Nursing students often face a heavy academic burden compared to students in other programs, possibly affecting their personal lives. However, a standardized scale assessing how academic demands interfere with the personal well-being in student nurses is lacking.

Objective: This study was conducted to develop and test the psychometric properties of the School-Life Conflict Scale (SLCS).

High-intensity home-based rehabilitation in a Medicare accountable care organization.

Objectives: Patients are often discharged to a skilled nursing facility (SNF) for postacute rehabilitation. Functional outcomes achieved in SNFs are variable, and costs are high. Especially for accountable care organizations (ACOs), home-based postacute rehabilitation offers a high-value option if outcomes are not compromised.
