Unlabelled: The presence of bromate in water poses a significant health risk. In order to effectively eliminate bromate from water, this study synthesized a series of ternary Zn-Ni-Al layered double hydroxides with varying Zn/Ni/Al atomic ratios using a co-precipitation method. The adsorbents were characterized using various techniques including XRD, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and N adsorption-desorption isotherms.

This study investigates the discharge of pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) from wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) into natural waters, highlighting a significant correlation with regional human activities. Despite the complexity of assessing factors influencing PPCPs sources, it remains underexplored. By conducting an extensive literature review of seven categories of PPCPs in WWTPs across five typical regions of China, the study reveals both similarities and disparities in PPCPs composition.

Results showed that had the longest mitochondrial length and the most pronounced codon preference to be UUA, followed by CCU. Codon usage frequencies were similar between families and codon usage in the mitogenome of spiders was mainly influenced by natural selection pressures rather than G/C mutation bias.

Transparent Exopolymer Particles (TEP), closely related to the carbon cycle due to their high carbon-to-nitrogen ratio, have become a hot research topic. However, despite the growing interest in this field, there is a lack of comprehensive analysis providing a clear developmental background and quantitative research on the overall trends of TEP studies. To address the gap, this article utilizes VOSviewer and CiteSpace to conduct a bibliometric analysis of TEP research.

Low temperature generally restricts biological activity, slowing down electron transfer in biogeochemical cycles and causing a series of environmental problems such as nitrogen pollution. We present a strategy to boost electron transfer in microbial cell at low temperatures via stimulation with low current. It is demonstrated by establishing a constructed wetland system coupled with solar powered microbial electrolysis cell, which enhances microbial activity through external micro currents (18.

Both perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and polystyrene microplastics (PS-MPs) are emerging contaminants commonly found in aqueous environments. In co-contaminated areas, MPs may act as carriers for PFOA, complicating transport dynamics. However, information on their cotransport in porous media is limited.

Livestock and poultry breeding wastewater contains a large number of heavy metals and antibiotics; the volume is huge, and it is difficult to treat, which causes serious pollution of the environment. Some studies have shown that symbiotic systems can effectively improve the efficiency of sewage treatment, but there is still a lack of research on the treatment of livestock and poultry wastewater. This experiment not only provides a more in-depth discussion of previous studies, but also demonstrates the feasibility of symbiotic treatment of livestock and poultry wastewater and explores the survival mode and operation mechanism of algal and bacterial symbiosis.

The increasing industrial use of toxic metals essential for modern electronics and renewable energy presents significant environmental and health challenges. This review was needed to address the environmental risks posed by toxic metals, particularly those accumulating in soil and sediment ecosystems. The objective is to examine the sources of toxic metal pollution, their ecological impacts, and the effectiveness of existing treatment technologies.

A new outdoor atmospheric simulation chamber with a volume of ∼100 m, the largest one in Asia, was recently constructed in the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (Beijing, China). This Atmospheric Environment Simulation System (AESS-RCEES) is a hemispherical-shaped photoreactor constructed using sixteen stainless-steel brackets covered by double-layer Teflon film, offering two advantages over other outdoor chambers: 1) The AESS-RCEES effectively minimizes the "greenhouse effect" by continuously circulating cooling air through the double layer, resulting in mean temperature differences between the inside and outside of around 12 °C in winter and 9 °C in summer. 2) The chamber can quickly introduce ambient air through a special inlet system, completely replacing the air inside within 45 min.

Oleaginous green microalgae are often mentioned in algae-based biodiesel industry, but most of them belong to specific genus (Chlorella, Scenedesmus, Botryococcus and Desmodesmus). Thus, the microalgal germplasm resources for biodiesel production are limited. Mutagenesis is regarded as an important technology for expanding germplasm resources.

Desalination techniques using the photothermal effect hold significant potential for producing fresh water from saline or polluted sources due to their low energy consumption. In the case of commercialized carbon materials are related to heat loss resulting from high thermal conductivity, and metal particles still have trouble in commercialization or cost-effectiveness. This is because a photothermal desalination evaporator must simultaneously exhibit high water evaporation performance, excellent energy conversion efficiency, sufficient hydrophilicity, and low heat loss.

Fluoride contamination in surface and ground water poses significant health risks, necessitating a low-energy, cost-effective removal method. Herein, an ultrafiltration (UF) adsorptive membrane doped with lanthanum (La)-based coconut shell biochar was synthesized to effectively remove fluoride ions. Based on the results of adsorption and membrane separation performance, it was found that La-based biochar showed a significantly higher adsorption capacity (126.

Sulfonamides, the most frequent antibacterial agent, are widely used due to their low cost and excellent antibacterial effect. With the emergence of the environment, the potential hazard to the ecological environment has attracted the great attention of humans. Based on matrix solid-phase dispersion coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry, an accurate, fast, and sensitive analytical method was developed for the determination of sulfonamides (SAs) in soil.

Worldwide prevalence of multi-antibiotic resistant bacteria is rapidly increasing, and the education of undergraduates and graduates about antibiotic resistance and its associated horizontal gene transfer is critical in the general effort to confront the spread of antibiotic resistance. In this study, a deeper understanding of antibiotic resistance and horizontal gene transfer was achieved by biomedical undergraduate students through a scientific research programme. The enthusiasm of students to participate in the training programme was very high, and results revealed that each student could identify the antibiotic resistance integrative and conjugative element from the Stenotrophomonas maltophilia MER1 genome.

Typhoon-induced perturbations can result in long-lasting effects on aquatic communities in subtropical lakes or reservoirs. However, the responses of bacterial communities and their related nutrient cycling to episodic typhoon events throughout the water column in deep waters remain largely unknown. Here, we conducted a four-year field study to reveal the depth-specific responses of both free-living (FL) and particle-attached (PA) bacteria to typhoon events in a subtropical deep reservoir from 2015 to 2018.

Chlorinated organic pollutants (Cl-OPs), highly toxic and environmentally persistent, have become the spotlight, particularly from petrochemical industry. This study focuses on environmental fate of Cl-OPs from petrochemical industry, and transformation mechanisms in multi-media, aiming to enhance pollution control and remediation strategies. Emitted from leakage and waste discharge, Cl-OPs, encompassing chlorinated volatile organic compounds (Cl-VOCs), traditional and emerging persistent organic pollutants (POPs), were prevalent with average concentrations of 10-10 μg/m in the atmosphere, 10-10 μg/kg in soil and 10-10 μg/L in groundwater.
