Cyclic carbonates have received significant interests for uses as reagents, solvents, and monomers. The coupling reaction of epoxides with carbon dioxide (CO ) to produce cyclic carbonate is an attractive route which can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and environmental hazards. We propose to capture reaction-diffusion on a molecule-by-molecule basis from the fastest acquirable timescale, namely individual photon arrivals. We illustrate our method on intrinsically disordered human proteins, the linker histone H1.0 as well as its chaperone prothymosin , as these diffuse through an illuminated confocal spot and interact forming larger ternary complexes on millisecond timescales.

Cadmium (Cd) is highly toxic to plants, but the targets and modes of toxicity remain unclear. We isolated a Cd-hypersensitive mutant of Arabidopsis thaliana, Cd-induced short root 2 (cdsr2), in the background of the phytochelatin synthase-defective mutant cad1-3. Both cdsr2 and cdsr2 cad1-3 displayed shorter roots and were more sensitive to Cd than their respective wild type.

The rational design of interface materials containing carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and zeolites (zeolite-CNTs) is a promising perspective in chemical and biochemical communities because they exhibit several outstanding properties such as tunable hydrophobicity-hydrophilicity at interfaces. In this contribution, we report the fabrication of Ag-incorporated nanocrystalline BEA-carbon nanotube (CNT) composites via the one-pot inter-zeolite transformation of the micron-sized FAU-CNT composite in the presence of a Ag precursor. By varying the crystallization time, the inter-zeolite transformation mechanism was explored.

ZIF-67 is a representative type of metal-organic framework (MOF) developed for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) owing to its robust structure in alkaline electrolytes and the presence of the redox-active Co species in the structure. In this work, the improvement of the ORR electrolytic performance of ZIF-67 in its pure phase by optimization of its crystal morphology and crystal facets has been presented. ZIF-67 nanocubes exhibit higher ORR activity than their bulk crystals.

Colostrum provides bioactive components that are essential for the colonization of microbiota in the infant gut, while preventing infectious diseases such as necrotizing enterocolitis. Two new ruthenium(II) complexes [Ru(dip)(PPβC)]PF (Ru1, dip = 4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline, PPβC = N-(1,10-phenanthrolin-5-yl)-1-phenyl-9H-pyrido[3,4-b]indole-3-carboxamide) and [Ru(phen)(PPβC)]PF (Ru2, phen = 1, 10-phenanthroline) with β-carboline derivative PPβC as the primary ligand, were designed and synthesized. An easy-to-use, highly selective, and real-time organic solvent quality assessment is desirable to detect water contamination in organic solvents. Herein, a one-step procedure using ultrasound irradiation was used for encapsulating nanoscale carbon dots (CDs) into metal-organic framework-199 (HKUST-1) to form CDs@HKUST-1 composite. The CDs@HKUST-1 exhibited very weak fluorescence due to photo-induced electron transfer (PET) from the CDs to the Cu centers, acting as a fluorescent sensor in its off-state.

When tracking fluorescently labeled molecules (termed "emitters") under widefield microscopes, point spread function overlap of neighboring molecules is inevitable in both dilute and especially crowded environments. In such cases, superresolution methods leveraging rare photophysical events to distinguish static targets nearby in space introduce temporal delays that compromise tracking. As we have shown in a companion manuscript, for dynamic targets, information on neighboring fluorescent molecules is encoded as spatial intensity correlations across pixels and temporal correlations in intensity patterns across time frames.

The contamination of tetracycline antibiotics and dihydrogen phosphate (HPO ) in food and the environment is one of the major concerns for human health. Herein, a water-stable carboxyl-functionalized europium metal-organic framework (Eu-MOF) was prepared and demonstrated, for the first time, as a dual-responsive fluorescent sensor of tetracycline antibiotics (oxytetracycline (OTC), tetracycline (TC), and doxycycline (DOX)) and HPO fluorescent turn-on and turn-off, respectively. Eu-MOF presents a sensitive and selective detection of OTC with a rapid response time (1 min) and good anti-interference ability.

Persulfate-promoted radical cascade trifluoromethylthiolation and cyclization of 3-alkyl-1-(2-(alkynyl)phenyl)indoles with AgSCF were investigated. This protocol provides a novel route to CFS-substituted indolo[1,2-]quinoline-7-carbaldehydes and CFS-substituted indolo[1,2-]quinoline-7-methanone derivatives via the formation of the C-SCF bond and C-C bond and benzylic carbon oxidation in a single step. This reaction can accommodate a broad range of functional groups.
