Objectives: Fetoscopic laser coagulation of placental anastomoses is usually performed for a treatment of twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS). A common complication of fetoscopic laser coagulation for TTTS is preterm preliminary rupture of fetal membranes (PPROM) aggravating the neonatal outcome significantly. However, use of an flexible 1 mm fetoscope with an curved sheath could reduce iatrogenic damage of the amniotic membrane and improve neonatal outcomes after laser treatment.

Objective: To understand the specific ways in which champions lead efforts to obtain and sustain buy-in for immediate postpartum long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) programs.
Methods: We conducted a qualitative study with 60 semistructured interviews at 3 teaching hospitals in Texas with physicians, nurses, administrators and other staff who participated in the implementation of immediate postpartum LARC. Physicians self-identified as champions and identified other champion physicians and administrators.

Immunoglobulin G4-related disease (IgG4-RD) is a fibroinflammatory condition. Its common manifestations include type I autoimmune pancreatitis and retroperitoneal fibrosis (RPF). We present a rare case involving a 43-year-old female who presented with left lower quadrant (LLQ) pain.

Through a commitment to individualized treatment plans meant to help patients meet personal goals, behavioral therapy can encourage abstinence and help prevent relapses that can have debilitating consequences. This case describes a 31-year-old male with heroin relapse who presented with flaccid quadriparesis as well as loss of sensation below the T2-3 spinal level, loss of rectal tone, and urinary retention.

The case describes a 65-year-old man who was admitted with primary diagnoses of cerebrovascular accident (CVA) and acute coronary syndrome (ACS) who developed an upper respiratory tract infection for which he was started on levofloxacin. Following its administration, serum aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) increased more than 100-fold above the upper limit of normal.

Recent successes in the development of new therapies for metastatic melanoma, such as mitogen-activated protein kinase pathway inhibitors, anticytotoxic T lymphocyte-associated antigen-4, and programmed cell death protein 1/programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1) pathway-blocking antibodies, as well as combination strategies, all yielded promising results, changing the continually evolving landscape of therapeutic options for patients with melanoma. One promising new treatment modality is based on the use of immunomodulatory monoclonal antibodies that enhance the function of components of the antitumor immune response such as T cells or block immunologic checkpoints that restrain effective antitumor immunity. Program death-1 receptor and its ligand, PD-L1, is a major mechanism by which a tumor suppresses T cell-mediated antitumor immune responses.

Obesity is associated with vitamin D deficiency, which can lead to serious problems during pregnancy. However, the mechanisms of the deficiency and guidelines for vitamin D supplementation during pregnancy are not established yet, and variations in environmental exposures combined with the difficulties of performing research in pregnant women are obstacles in the evaluation of vitamin D metabolism. Baboons (Papio spp.

Trichomonal disease typically involves the genital and occasionally respiratory tracts. Although exposure of the upper respiratory tract to infected genital secretions is not uncommon with contemporary sexual practices, trichomonal sinus disease has been rarely described. The present report describes the case of a healthy 17-year-old male admitted to an intensive care unit following multiple trauma, who developed purulent sinusitis on the 4th day of hospitalization.
