Obstetric outcomes in women with rheumatic disease and COVID-19 in the context of vaccination status.

Objective: To describe obstetric outcomes based on COVID-19 vaccination status, in women with rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases (RMDs) who developed COVID-19 during pregnancy.

Methods: Data regarding pregnant women entered into the COVID-19 Global Rheumatology Alliance registry from 24 March 2020-25 February 2022 were analysed. Obstetric outcomes were stratified by number of COVID-19 vaccine doses received prior to COVID-19 infection in pregnancy.

Mid-Term Clinical and Radiological Outcomes of Lateral Meniscal Allograft Transplantation with Suture-Only Fixation Plus Capsulodesis.

Meniscal allograft transplantation (MAT) is an effective reconstructive procedure for treating a symptomatic postmeniscectomy syndrome. It consists of replacing the lost meniscal tissue aiming to improve the clinical outcomes and prevent progressive deterioration of the joint. The aim of this study was to evaluate meniscal graft survivorship and report on the radiographic (in terms of graft extrusion and joint space width and alignment) and the functional results through a midterm follow-up of lateral MAT performed with a soft tissue fixation technique after capsulodesis.

Oral anticoagulant treatment in rheumatoid arthritis patients with atrial fibrillation results of an international audit.

Objective: To describe the prevalence of atrial fibrillation (AF) in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and to evaluate the proportion of patients with AF receiving guideline-recommended anticoagulation for prevention of stroke, based on data from a large international audit.

Methods: The cohort was derived from the international audit rvey of cardiovascular disease isk actors in patients with heumatoid rthritis (SURF-RA) which collected data from 17 countries during 2014-2019. We evaluated the prevalence of AF across world regions and explored factors associated with the presence of AF with multivariable logistic regression models.

Biomechanics of Septal L-Strut on Lamb Head Models.

It is very crucial to know the biomechanics of the septal cartilage and adjacent structures during septoplasty. The aim of this study was to investigate the strength changes of different L-strut models after mucoperichondrium elevation, application of septal extension grafts and spreader grafts on an experimental lamb model. Ten lamb heads were dissected according to a dissection protocol and septal resistances were measured with the newton meter at six zones.

Good clinical outcomes can be expected after meniscal allograft transplantation at 15 years of follow-up.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate graft survivorship and report the functional and radiographic results of Meniscal allograft transplantation (MAT) throughout a minimum 15-year follow-up period.

Methods: Fifty-one patients that had undergone an isolated MAT procedure during the period studied were included. The results were assessed with the Lysholm and Tegner scores as well as the Visual Analog Scale.

Drug hypersensitivity reactions (DHRs) to intravenous drugs can be severe and might leave patients and doctors in a difficult position where an essential treatment or intervention has to be suspended. Even if virtually any intravenous medication can potentially trigger a life-threatening DHR, chemotherapeutics, biologics, and antibiotics are amongst the intravenous drugs most frequently involved in these reactions. Admittedly, suspending such treatments may negatively impact the survival outcomes or the quality of life of affected patients.

Background: The prevalence of excess weight and obesity in children has increased significantly worldwide. The concept of food addiction (FA) has been associated with eating-related problems and obesity. Studies on this topic have primarily examined adult samples and little is known about addictive-like eating among Mexican children and adolescents.

Saroglitazar is noninferior to fenofibrate in reducing triglyceride levels in hypertriglyceridemic patients in a randomized clinical trial.

Saroglitazar, being a dual PPAR-α/γ agonist, has shown beneficial effect in diabetic dyslipidemia and hypertriglyceridemia. Fibrates are commonly used to treat severe hypertriglyceridemia. However, the effect of saroglitazar in patients with moderate to severe hypertriglyceridemia was not evaluated.

Background: Limited data is available from low-middle and upper-middle income countries of the factors associated with hospitalization or admission to pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) for children with COVID-19.

Objective: To describe the factors associated with hospitalization or PICU admission of children with COVID-19 in Latin America.

Method: Multicenter, analytical, retrospective study of children reported from 10 different Latin American countries to the Latin-American Society of Pediatric Infectious Diseases (SLIPE-COVID) research network from June 1, 2020, and February 28, 2021.

Femtosecond laser-assisted corneal transplantation with a low-energy, liquid-interface system.

Femtosecond laser-assisted keratoplasty has been proposed as a treatment option for corneal transplantation. In this study, we investigated and compared the outcomes of Ziemer Z8 femtosecond laser (FSL)-assisted penetrating keratoplasty (PK) using a liquid interface versus flat interface. Thirty fresh porcine eyes underwent FSL-assisted PK with the Z8 using different levels of energies (30%, 90% or 150%) and different interfaces (liquid or flat).

Eptacog beta efficacy and safety in the treatment and control of bleeding in paediatric subjects (<12 years) with haemophilia A or B with inhibitors.

Introduction: Eptacog beta is a new recombinant activated human factor VII bypassing agent approved in the United States for the treatment and control of bleeding in patients with haemophilia A or B with inhibitors 12 years of age or older.

Aim: To prospectively assess in a phase 3 clinical trial (PERSEPT 2) eptacog beta efficacy and safety for treatment of bleeding in children <12 years of age with haemophilia A or B with inhibitors.

Methods: Using a randomised crossover design, subjects received initial doses of 75 or 225 μg/kg eptacog beta followed by 75 μg/kg dosing at predefined intervals (as determined by clinical response) to treat bleeding episodes (BEs).

Increasing access to hematopoietic cell transplantation in Latin America: results of the 2018 LABMT activity survey and trends since 2012.

A total of 5642 hematopoietic cell transplants (HCT) in 5445 patients (2196-40% allogeneic and 3249-60% autologous) were reported by 127 teams in 14 Latin American countries that answered the 2018 LABMT/WBMT Global Transplant Activity survey. The transplant rate (defined as the number of first transplants per 10 million inhabitants per year) was 85 (51 autologous and 34 allogeneic) in 2018. The main indications for allogeneic HCT were acute leukemias (60%), while plasma cell disorders and lymphomas were the most common conditions warranting autologous HCT (50 and 36%, respectively).

Epidemiological Algorithm for Early Detection of COVID-19 Cases in a Mexican Oncologic Center.

An early detection tool for latent COVID-19 infections in oncology staff and patients is essential to prevent outbreaks in a cancer center. (1) Background: In this study, we developed and implemented two early detection tools for the radiotherapy area to identify COVID-19 cases opportunely. (2) Methods: Staff and patients answered a questionnaire (electronic and paper surveys, respectively) with clinical and epidemiological information.

The morphology of the femoral footprint of the anterior cruciate ligament changes with aging from a large semicircular shape to a small flat ribbon-like shape.

Purpose: Compare the differences in the morphology of the ACL femoral footprint between the cadavers of the young and elderly in consideration of the degenerative physiological process that occurs with aging.

Methods: The femoral footprint of the ACL was dissected in 81 knees of known gender and age (45 male/36 female). They were divided into four groups by age and gender, establishing 50 years as the cut-off point to divide patients by age.

Breast cancer (BC) has one of the highest incidences and mortality worldwide. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in rs3803662 and rs1943779 have been associated with susceptibility to BC. In this case-control study, we evaluated the association of rs3803662 ()/rs1943779 () SNPs with clinical features, immunohistochemical reactivity, and risk association with BC in women from northeastern Mexico.

Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation for uncommon immune-mediated neurological disorders: A literature review.

Background: Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP), stiff-person syndrome (SPS), neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD) and severe refractory myasthenia gravis (MG) are immune-mediated neurological diseases that severely affect patients' functionality and quality of life, with a considerable percentage undergoing relapse or not responding to conventional treatment options. Autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (auto-HSCT) has emerged as a potential second-line treatment alternative.

Methods: We performed a literature review in PubMed/Medline, EMBASE, Web of Science and Cochrane Library from inception to September 2021 of reported cases and studies of CIDP, SPS, NMOSD and MG that underwent HSCT as a treatment option.
