Identifying the prevalence and characteristics of diversity, equity, and inclusion leaders in academic emergency medicine.

Objectives: Our study aims to better understand and describe the current state of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) leadership in emergency medicine (EM) by identifying the prevalence of department DEI leadership positions, their demographics, and their job duty characteristics.

Methods: We disseminated an electronic survey from April to July 2022 to Society for Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM) Association of Academic Chairs of Emergency Medicine, Academy for Diversity and Inclusion in Emergency Medicine, and the Equity and Inclusion Committee to identify department DEI leads. From July to August 2022, a 45-question survey was sent to all identified DEI leaders on individual characteristics, DEI experience, and DEI lead job description.

A low-burden, self-weighing intervention to prevent weight gain in adults with obesity who do not enroll in comprehensive treatment.

Background: For individuals who are eligible but unlikely to join comprehensive weight loss programs, a low burden self-weighing intervention may be a more acceptable approach to weight management.

Methods: This was a single-arm feasibility trial of a 12-month self-weighing intervention. Participants were healthcare patients with a BMI ≥25 kg/m with a weight-related comorbidity or a BMI >30 kg/m who reported lack of interest in joining a comprehensive weight loss program, or did not enroll in a comprehensive program after being provided program information.

The importance of the dyad: Participant perspectives on sharing biomarker results in Alzheimer's disease research.

Background: In the asymptomatic "preclinical" phase of Alzheimer's disease (AD), abnormal biomarkers indicate risk for developing cognitive impairment. Biomarker information is increasingly being disclosed to participants in research settings, and biomarker testing and results disclosure will be implemented in clinical settings in the future. Biomarker disclosure has potential psychosocial benefits and harms, impacting affected individuals and their support person(s).

Familial segregation of a 5q15-q21.2 deletion associated with facial dysmorphism and speech delay.

We report a two-generation family with four females harboring an 8.5Mb heterozygous deletion of 5q15-q21.2 who present with dysmorphic craniofacial features and speech delay.

The influence of atopy and asthma on immune responses in inner-city adults.

Asthma in the inner-city population is usually atopic in nature, and is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. However, the underlying immune abnormalities that underlie asthma in urban adults have not been well defined. We investigated the influence of atopy and asthma on cytokine responses of inner-city adult women to define immune abnormalities associated with asthma and atopy.
