Adopting a healthy dietary pattern may be an initial step in combating inflammation-related chronic diseases; however, a comprehensive synthesis evaluating current evidence is lacking. This umbrella review aimed to summarise the current evidence on the effects of dietary patterns on circulating C-reactive protein (CRP) levels in adults. We conducted an exhaustive search of the Pubmed, Scopus and Epistemonikos databases, spanning from their inception to November 2023, to identify systematic reviews and meta-analyses across all study designs.

α9α10 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) are a promising nonopioid analgesic target, with α9α10 nAChR antagonists showing efficacy against chemotherapy-induced hyperalgesia and allodynia. GeX-2, a potent analgesic conotoxin antagonist of α9α10 nAChRs, has limited serum stability. This study improved GeX-2 stability by capping its N-terminal with fatty acids or polyethylene glycol chains, which enhanced its serum stability but eliminated activity at G protein-coupled γ-aminobutyric acid type B (GABA) receptor-coupled Ca2.

Background: The transcription factor NRF2 plays a significant role in regulating genes that protect cells from oxidative damage. O-GlcNAc modification, a type of posttranslational modification, is crucial for cellular response to stress. Although the involvement of both NRF2 and O-GlcNAc in maintaining cellular redox balance and promoting cancer malignancy has been demonstrated, the potential mechanisms remain elusive.

Hypochlorous acid (HClO/ClO) is a key reactive oxidative species (ROS) in the body. The HClO/ClO concentrations are imbalanced during cancer formation due to the ROS stress response. This paper introduces a novel chitosan-based self-calibration fluorescent nanoprobe (ChCyNil) constructed by molecular assembly for the ratiometric detection of HClO/ClO.

Prostate cancer therapies against androgen receptor (AR) eventually develop lethal resistance; thus, exploring new therapeutic approaches is urgent for prostate cancer treatment. Acetyltransferase p300/CBP are key coactivators for AR-mediated transcription and represent promising therapeutic targets to inhibit AR activity in prostate cancer. We describe the design synthesis and evaluation of a new class of p300/CBP PROTAC degraders.

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection during pregnancy poses significant risks to both maternal and child health, with potential adverse effects on perinatal outcomes. This study aimed to compare perinatal outcomes, including birth weight, length, Apgar scores, and prematurity rates, between HIV-exposed, uninfected (HEU) children and HIV-unexposed, uninfected (HUU) children. A total of 204 neonates were included in the study, comprising 102 born to HIV-positive mothers and 102 born to uninfected mothers.

With approximately half a billion events per year, lower respiratory tract infections (LRTIs) represent a major challenge for the global public health. Among LRTI cases, those caused by Gram-negative bacteria (GNB) are associated with a poorer prognostic. Standard-of-care etiologic diagnostics is lengthy and difficult to establish, with more than half of cases remaining microbiologically undocumented.

Abnormal lipid metabolism plays an important role in cancer development. In this study, nontargeted lipidomic study on 230 tissue specimens from 79 nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients was conducted using ultraperformance liquid chromatography-high-resolution mass spectrometry (UPLC-HRMS). Downregulation of sphingosine and medium-long-chain ceramides and short-medium-chain acylcarnitine, upregulation of long-chain acylcarnitine C20:0, and enhanced histamine methylation were revealed in NSCLC tissues.

Nanoparticles (NPs) inevitably interact with proteins upon exposure to biological fluids, leading to the formation of an adsorption layer known as the "protein corona". This corona imparts NPs with a new biological identity, directly influencing their interactions with living systems and dictating their fates . Thus, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the dynamic interplay between NPs and proteins in biological fluids is crucial for predicting therapeutic effects and advancing the clinical translation of nanomedicines.
