Article Synopsis
  • C5aR2, a receptor for C5a, is being studied for its complex roles in modulating the classic receptor C5aR1, particularly under normal and inflammatory conditions.
  • Research shows that C5aR2 knockout in mice does not affect the expression of C5aR1 mRNA levels in various immune cells, but it reduces the surface expression of C5aR1 on neutrophils, possibly due to altered internalization.
  • The study suggests that C5aR2 may antagonize C5aR1's signaling in neutrophils and work alongside it in macrophages, indicating distinct functions of C5aR2 across different cell types.

During last decade, bioinformatics analysis has provided an effective way to study the relationship between various genes and biological processes. In this study, we aimed to identify potential core candidate genes and underlying mechanisms of progression of lung and gastric carcinomas which both originated from endoderm. The expression profiles, GSE54129 (gastric carcinoma) and GSE27262 (lung carcinoma), were collected from GEO database.

Background: The underestimation of renal depth by Tønnesen formula in Gates' method, which has been confirmed by many scholars, leads to the underestimation of both separate glomerular filtration rate (gSGFR) and total glomerular filtration rate (gTGFR). This study aimed to establish the normal reference ranges of renal depth-calibrated gTGFR and gSGFR in Chinese healthy adults, and to analyze the influencing factors.

Methods: Renal depth was measured by CT scan followed by technetium 99m-diethylene triamine pentaacetic acid (Tc-DTPA) renal dynamic imaging by single-photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography (SPECT/CT) in 329 living kidney donors.

Background: Tracheomalacia (TM), caused by anterior mediastinal tumorectomy, most likely to deteriorate condition of patient life.

Case Presentation: A 63-year-old patient felt serious dyspnea diagnosis as TM caused by the recurrent cervical schwannoma. The narrowest diameter of the TM was only 0.

Gastric cancer (GC) is a complex multifactorial disease, and genetic factors are believed the predominant cause to the occurrence of GC. We sought to investigate the associations between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in ACYP2 gene and the risk of GC in the Northwest Chinese Han population. We recruited 302 GC cases and 300 controls from northwest China and selected 13 SNPs from ACYP2 gene.

Establishing a new formula for estimating renal depth in a Chinese adult population.

Medicine (Baltimore)

February 2017

Department of Nuclear Medicine Department of Kidney Transplantation, the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University Department of Health Statistics, School of Medicine Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an, Shaanxi, China.

We aimed to establish a new formula for estimating renal depth, based on anthropometric variables, and to compare the estimates with actual data from a group of living kidney donors undergoing computed tomography angiography (CTA).Renal depths in 167 living kidney donors were measured by CTA. Regression analysis was used to derive the formulae for estimation of renal depth of both kidneys based on patient age, sex, body height, body weight, and body mass index (BMI).

Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare the ligation of intersphincteric fistula tract (LIFT) with an additional plug (LIFT-plug) in the treatment of transsphincteric anal fistula.

Summary Background Data: Both LIFT and LIFT-plug are recently reported effective alternatives of transsphincteric anal fistula.

Methods: This multicenter prospective randomized study (NCT01478139) was conducted at 5 university hospitals throughout China.

Large-conductance Ca(2+)-activated K(+) channels (BK channels) are widely expressed throughout the vertebrate nervous system, and are involved in the regulation of neurotransmitter release and neuronal excitability. Here, the neuroprotective effects of NS11021, a selective and chemically unrelated BK channel activator, and potential molecular mechanism involved have been studied in rat cortical neurons exposed to glutamate in vitro. Pretreatment with NS11021 significantly inhibited the loss of neuronal viability, LDH release and neuronal apoptosis in a dose-dependent manner.

MicroRNA-101 inhibits rat cardiac hypertrophy by targeting Rab1a.

J Cardiovasc Pharmacol

April 2015

*Department of Radiology, the First Affiliated Hospital, School of Medicine Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an, China; and †Department of Nuclear Medicine, Tangdu Hospital, Fourth Military Medical University, Xi'an, China.

Cardiac hypertrophy is a primary pathological change associated with cardiovascular diseases. Dysregulated microRNAs are frequent in cardiovascular diseases and contribute to cardiac hypertrophy by regulating a series of targeted genes. In this study, a rat model of cardiac hypertrophy was created by transverse abdominal aortic constriction, and cardiomyocyte hypertrophy in cultured neonatal rat cardiomyocytes was induced using angiotensin II (AngII) to investigate the role of miR-101 in myocardial hypertrophy.

Previous studies have shown that histone deacetylase 6 (HDAC6) plays critical roles in many cellular processes related to cancer. However, its biological roles in the development of melanoma remain unexplored. Our aim was to investigate whether HDAC6 has a biological role in human melanoma development and to understand its underlying mechanism.

Objective: To assese the healing of stoma after magnetic anastomosis for the reconstruction of biliary-enteric continuity under severe inflammation.

Methods: Acute bile duct injury was constructed as a bile peritonitis model in mongrel dogs (n=32). Magnetic anastomosis (group A, n=16) and traditional suture anastomosis (group B, n=16) were performed to reconstruct the biliary-enteric continuity in one stage.

Surgical therapy of unusual congenital corneal fibroma.

J Ayub Med Coll Abbottabad

April 2011

Department of Ophthalmology, No. 1-2 Hospital Affiliated School of Medicine, School of Medicine Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an, Shaanxi, People Republic of China.

Surgical removal of left congenital limbo corneal mass by peripheral lamellar keratoplasty (LKP) using preserved remaining corneasclera graft from other recipient was effective for the treatment of limbocorneal fibroma. A case of 17 year old Chinese girl with a corneal mass since her birth on 4:00 'O clock position showed a size of about 2-3 mm. The patient was treated with total resection of the mass with part of Corneascleral Limbus and partial cornea with adjacent tissue and was diagnosed as fibroma after histopathology examination.
