Background: Lymphatic disorders such as protein-losing enteropathy, plastic bronchitis, and chylothorax are important complications of the Fontan circulation and ultimately result in an increased risk of early death. Several European centers are now performing lymphatic procedures. The aim of this study is to map the extent of these lymphatic disorders and treatments provided across European pediatric cardiology centers.

Background: Higher cardiac troponin is associated with worse outcomes in patients with acute heart failure. The significance of repeat measurements over hours remains unclear. We assessed whether a repeat measurement and the Δ between measurements of high-sensitivity cardiac troponin I (hs-cTnI) were associated with outcomes in hypervolemic patients with acute heart failure without acute coronary syndrome.

Success in the management of obesity is predominately determined in terms of BMI or percentage weight loss, yet the limitations of these have been widely recognized. This study aimed to understand patient definitions of success in obesity treatment.

Background: While growth factors have the potential to halt degeneration and decrease inflammation in animal models, the literature investigating the effect of dosage on human cells is lacking. Moreover, despite the completion of clinical trials using growth differentiation factor-5 (GDF-5), no results have been publicly released.
Aims: The overall objective was to quantitatively assess the effect of three clinically relevant concentrations of GDF-5 (0.
Introduction: Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming oncology and surgery by improving diagnostics, personalizing treatments, and enhancing surgical precision. Patients appreciate AI for its potential to provide accurate prognoses and tailored therapies. However, AI's implementation raises ethical concerns, data privacy issues, and the need for transparent communication between patients and health care providers.

Objective: Obesity and many of its comorbidities can be improved by nutritional therapy, lifestyle modification, pharmacotherapy, and surgical intervention. Relatively little is known about patients' preferences for the range of obesity treatments. The present study was undertaken to identify factors that may influence these preferences.

Background: A significant hurdle for potential cell-based therapies is the subsequent survival and regenerative capacity of implanted cells. While many exciting developments have demonstrated promise preclinically, cell-based therapies for intervertebral disc (IVD) degeneration fail to translate equivalent clinical efficacy.
Aims: This work aims to ascertain the clinical relevance of both a small and large animal model by experimentally investigating and comparing these animal models to human from the perspective of anatomical scale and their cellular metabolic and regenerative potential.
Mitochondrial methionyl-tRNA formyltransferase (MTFMT) is required for the initiation of translation in mitochondria. Pathogenic variants in have been described in association with clinical presentations with Leigh syndrome, as well with as multisystem involvement (particularly cardiac and ocular involvement). There is a spectrum of severity, but many reported presentations have been milder with a better prognosis than other pathogenic variants associated with Leigh syndrome.

Treatment consists of immediately eliminating galactose from the diet in the new-born and lifelong restriction of dietary galactose. The inclusion of a wider variety of foods for people with CG may provide many benefits, including improved nutritional adequacy and quality of life.

Background: Anxiety and depression are highly prevalent conditions in cervical dystonia and considered intrinsic to the disease mechanism. Psychiatric symptoms do not appear to be influenced by botulinum toxin therapy. Studies focusing on changes in mood disorder during the course of the disease are limited in this chronic, lifelong disorder.

Objectives: The objectives of this study were to examine all Irish cases of MCC from 1 January 1994 over 2 decades, focusing on gender and organ transplantation recipients (OTRs). Cases were identified from the National Cancer Registry of Ireland.

Formal guidelines for awake tracheal intubation have recently been published providing a streamlined process for the first time. We present a case of awake videolaryngoscopy in the pediatric setting, not previously reported. Application of guidelines and careful team preparation facilitated performance of a novel technique in our pediatric institution.

Background: Pulmonary endothelial injury and microcirculatory thromboses likely contribute to hypoxemic respiratory failure, the most common cause of death, in patients with COVID-19. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) suggest differences in the effect of therapeutic heparin between moderately and severely ill patients with COVID-19. We did a systematic review and meta-analysis of RCTs to determine the effects of therapeutic heparin in hospitalized patients with COVID-19.

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are emerging as key players in different stages of atherosclerosis. Here we provide evidence that EVs released by mixed aggregates of monocytes and platelets in response to TNF-α display pro-inflammatory actions on endothelial cells and atherosclerotic plaques. Tempering platelet activation with Iloprost, Aspirin or a P2Y inhibitor impacted quantity and phenotype of EV produced.

We recently reported two cases of X-linked hypophosphatemia (XLH) with severe tertiary hyperparathyroidism who had normalization of TmP/GFR upon being rendered hypoparathyroid following total parathyroidectomy, despite marked excess in both C-terminal FGF23 (cFGF23) and intact FGF23 (iFGF23). We explored the effects of FGF23, PTH, and calcium on TmP/GFR in a cross-sectional study ( = 74) across a spectrum of clinical cases with abnormalities in TmP/GFR, PTH, and FGF23.

We report the third case of mHS deficiency presenting in the absence of hypoglycemia, with profound biochemical abnormalities and further evidence of potential specific diagnostic biomarkers. A previously well, 20-month old, unvaccinated male, of nonconsanguineous Polish heritage, presented with encephalopathy, hepatomegaly, severe metabolic acidosis, and mild hyperammonemia following a brief intercurrent illness.

The endothelium releases prostacyclin and nitric oxide which stimulate the synthesis of cyclic nucleotides cAMP and cGMP leading to platelet inhibition. Other inhibitory mechanisms involve immunoreceptor tyrosine-based inhibition motif-containing receptors, intracellular receptors and receptor desensitization.
