Previous research has investigated the effectiveness of the "Tweet the Meeting" campaign, but the relationship between tweet content and the number of retweets has not been fully evaluated. We analyzed the number of tweets and retweets during the Japanese Circulation Society's 2022 annual meeting. The ambassador group had significantly more session- and symposium-related tweets than the non-ambassador group (P<0.

Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic on elective endoscopic surgeries in Japan using the National Clinical Database.
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the clinicopathological factors and surgical outcomes of laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC), laparoscopic distal gastrectomy (LDG), and laparoscopic low anterior resection (LLAR) and compared the monthly numbers of each procedure performed in 2020 with those in 2018 and 2019. The degree of infection in prefectures was classified into low and high groups.
Aim: Liver allografts from brain-dead donors, which were declined and were eventually not transplanted due to accompanying marginal factors, have never been surveyed in Japan. We surveyed the declined allografts and discussed the graft potential focusing on various marginal factors.
Methods: We collected data on brain-dead donors between 1999 and 2019 from the Japan Organ Transplant Network.
Aim: Osteopenia and sarcopenia, features of the aging process, are recognized as major health problems in an aging society. This study investigated the prognostic impact of osteosarcopenia, the coexistence of osteopenia and sarcopenia, in older adults undergoing curative resection for colorectal cancer.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed data of older adults aged 65-98 y who had undergone curative resection for colorectal cancer.

Background: Abdominal compartment syndrome (ACS) is a known complication of severe acute pancreatitis. It is typically secondary to visceral edema and aggressive fluid resuscitation, but rarely caused by a retroperitoneal hematoma due to ruptured visceral pseudoaneurysms.
Case Presentation: A 49-year-old man presented in shock with a history of heavy alcohol use and was transferred to the intensive care unit with a diagnosis of severe acute pancreatitis.
Objective: Mucosal incision-assisted biopsy (MIAB) has been introduced as an alternative to endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration for tissue sampling of subepithelial lesions. However, there have been few reports on MIAB, and the evidence is lacking, particularly in small lesions. In this case series, we investigated the technical outcomes and postprocedural influences of MIAB for gastric subepithelial lesions 10 mm or greater in size.

Methods: We divided 682 patients who had undergone AF ablation in 2014-2019 (420 paroxysmal AFs [PAF], 262 persistent AFs [PerAF]) into three groups according to the period, that is, the 2014-2015 ( = 139), 2016-2017 ( = 244), and 2018-2019 groups ( = 299), respectively.
Results: Persistent AF became more prevalent and the left atrial (LA) diameter larger over the 6 years.

Ultrasound-guided transthoracic needle biopsy is a relatively safe procedure diagnosing subpleural pulmonary mass and has high sensitivity in the diagnosis of lung cancer. However, the usefulness in other rare malignancies is unknown. This case shows the effectiveness in diagnosing not only lung cancer but also rare malignancies including primary pulmonary lymphoma.

Aim: The aim of this study is to evaluate the ability of soluble urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (suPAR) and modified suPAR with National Early Warning Score (NEWS) for detecting mortality in elderly emergency patients who are older than 70 years.
Methods: This is a secondary analysis of our previous study, which was a single-center prospective pilot study, carried out for 21 months in the emergency department of a secondary emergency institution in Japan. This study was carried out between September 16, 2020, and June 21, 2022.
Key Clinical Message: Several animal experiment studies have shown that insufficient testicular descent to the scrotum can be caused by persistence of cranial suspensory ligament (CSL). We report a case of right cryptorchidism in a male toddler surgically treated with an orchidopexy possibly associated with CSL persistence based on intraoperative and pathological findings. This case would be a precious source to further investigate the etiopathogenesis of cryptorchidism.

Methods: The data recorded in the National Clinical Database of Japan between 2018 and 2020 were utilized for this study. Five specific surgeries for primary cancers and surgery for acute diffuse peritonitis were considered the primary endpoints.
Background: Loss of skeletal muscle mass is a prognostic factor after surgery for gastrointestinal cancers. The treatment for perihilar cholangiocarcinoma (PHC) is a highly invasive surgery. Biliary drainage and portal vein embolization, which can prolong the preoperative waiting time (PWT), are often required before surgery.

Aim: The C-reactive protein (CRP)-albumin-lymphocyte (CALLY) index is a novel inflammation-based biomarker, which has been associated with long-term outcomes in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma. We aimed to investigate whether the CALLY index can predict the prognosis for distal cholangiocarcinoma after pancreaticoduodenectomy.
Methods: The study comprised 143 patients who had undergone primary pancreaticoduodenectomy for distal cholangiocarcinoma between 2002 to 2019.

With the unprecedented aging of the world's population, the number of elderly patients with depression is expected to increase. However, management and treatment of late-life depression (LLD) is more difficult than in early adults. Prior to treatment, diagnosis must take into account the differentiation from, and comorbidity with, organic brain diseases such as dementia and delirium, as well as depression caused by other physical diseases or medications.

Background And Aim: Metachronous gastric cancer (GC) frequently occurs in patients who have undergone endoscopic resection (ER) for GC. We evaluated the risk for development of metachronous GC following ER for GC based on genetic polymorphisms for alcohol dehydrogenase-1B (ADH1B) and aldehyde dehydrogenase-2 (ALDH2), as well as alcohol consumption and smoking habits.
Methods: We studied 77 patients who underwent ER for GC (median follow-up of 84 months).

Yasunaga restated ego disturbance in schizophrenia as the "Pattern Reversal" between selfhood and otherness, based on British philosopher Wauchope's concept of "pattern." This concept is meant as asymmetrical relatedness (A/B) within a pair of concepts, such as life and death, quality and quantity, and self and other, prioritizing the former (A side) over the latter (B side).

Vaccines for tetanus prevention have rapidly progressed, and the number of outbreaks, especially the incidence of tetanus in developed countries, has decreased dramatically. However, the mortality rate associated with severe tetanus remains high. Tetanus eradication is difficult owing to the widespread presence of the spores of tetanus bacteria in the environment, but tetanus can be prevented by acquired immunity from vaccines.
