Sonodynamic therapy (SDT) has been explored for cancer therapy, especially for deep tumors due to its low tissue penetration restriction. The therapeutic efficacy of SDT is limited due to the complicated tumor microenvironment. This study reports the construction of oxygen-carrying semiconducting polymer nanoprodrugs (OSPN) for deep tumor treatment via combining amplified SDT with pyroptosis.

Relapse remains the main cause of treatment failure in patients with myeloid malignancies even after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). We observed a particularly low incidence of relapse in patients prepared with fludarabine, busulfan and melphalan in our previous study and this multicenter retrospective analysis aimed to confirm the feasibility of the regimen and to identify the potential prognostic factors. This study was performed using registry data from adults patients with myeloid malignancies who underwent their first allo-HSCT following fludarabine(≥100 mg/m), busulfan (≥3.

Three-membered rings, such as epoxides, aziridines, oxaziridines, cyclopropenes, vinyloxaziridines, and azirines, are recognized as crucial pharmacophores and building blocks in organic chemistry and drug discovery. Despite the significant advances in the synthesis of these rings through photo/electrochemical methods over the past decade, there has currently been no focused discussion and updated overviews on this topic. Therefore, we presented this review article on the efficient synthesis of three-membered rings using photo- and electrochemical strategies, covering the literature since 2015.

Objectives: Anti-signal recognition particle (SRP) antibodies, markers of immune-mediated necrotising myopathy, are reportedly related to cardiac involvement; however, whether they are pathogenic to the myocardium remains unclear. We aimed, therefore, to explore the pathogenicity of anti-SRP antibodies against the myocardium through and studies.

Methods: Total immunoglobulin G (IgG), purified from patients with positive anti-SRP antibodies, was passively transferred into C57BL/6 mice.

Purpose: To investigate the effect of Sophora japonica extract on alveolar bone mass in ovariectomized osteoporosis mice.

Methods: Six-week-old female non-pregnant wild-type C57BL/6J mice were randomly divided into sham operation group, ovariectomy(OVX) group and OVX+Sophora japonica extract group. Ovaries of the mice in the OVX group and the OVX+Sophora japonica extract group were removed, and the mice in the OVX+Sophora japonica extract group were treated by Sophora japonica extract at a dose of 150 mg/kg, three times a week for 4 weeks; while mice of the other two groups were given an equal volume of normal saline at the same time.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) and its complications are a leading cause of death worldwide. Endothelial dysfunction plays a crucial role in the initiation and progression of CVD, serving as a pivotal factor in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular, metabolic, and other related diseases. The regulation of endothelial dysfunction is influenced by various risk factors and intricate signaling pathways, which vary depending on the specific disease context.

Neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio and cognitive performances in first-episode patients with schizophrenia and healthy controls.

Prog Neuropsychopharmacol Biol Psychiatry

December 2024

Peking University HuiLongGuan Clinical Medical School, Beijing HuiLongGuan Hospital, Beijing, China. Electronic address:

Abnormal immune and inflammatory responses are considered to contribute to schizophrenia (SZ). The neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is an inexpensive and reproducible marker of systemic inflammatory responses. Accumulating studies have demonstrated that NLR values are increased in SZ compared to healthy controls and closely related to clinical symptoms in antipsychotic-naïve first-episode SZ (ANFES) patients.

Frataxin Loss Promotes Angiotensin II-Induced Endothelial-to-Mesenchymal Transition.

J Am Heart Assoc

August 2024

Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, State Key Laboratory of Medical Genomics, Shanghai Key Laboratory of Hypertension, Shanghai Institute of Hypertension, Ruijin Hospital Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine Shanghai China.

Background: The metabolic flexibility of endothelial cells is linked to their phenotypic plasticity. Frataxin is critical in determining the iron metabolism and fate of endothelial cells. This study aimed to investigate frataxin-mediated metabolic remodeling during the endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EndoMT).

Introduction: Prior studies suggested that neuromuscular factors might be involved in the pathogenesis of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). The neuromuscular junction (NMJ) is the important pivot where the nervous system interacts with muscle fibers, but it has not been well characterized in the paraspinal muscles of AIS. This study aims to perform the quantitative morphological analysis of NMJs from paraspinal muscles of AIS.

With the increasing attention paid to macrocyclic scaffolds in peptide drug development, genetically encoded peptide macrocycle libraries have become invaluable sources for the discovery of high-affinity peptide ligands targeting disease-associated proteins. The traditional phage display technique of constructing disulfide-tethered macrocycles by cysteine oxidation has the inherent drawback of reduction instability of the disulfide bond. Chemical macrocyclization solves the problem of disulfide bond instability, but the involved highly electrophilic reagents are usually toxic to phages and may bring undesirable side reactions.
