Background and objective Anemia is a common hematological disorder during pregnancy, with iron deficiency (ID) being the most prevalent cause globally. It severely affects maternal and fetal health. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of anemia and its association with iron and vitamin B12 deficiency during pregnancy.

Charcot neuro-osteoarthropathy (CNO) is a rare but devastating complication of diabetes associated with high rates of morbidity; yet, many nonfoot specialists are unaware of it, resulting in missed and delayed diagnosis. Clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) have proven useful in improving quality of care and standardizing practice in diabetes and diabetic foot care. However, little is known about the consistency in recommendations for identification and management of active CNO.

Background: Νocebo Effect is known to induce adverse symptoms after negative expectations which can be manifested on a physical and psychological level. As 6th year medical students often face a wide range of clinical challenges and may be prone to negative expectations or beliefs affecting their pre-clinical and clinical success, we want to investigate how they are affected by the Nocebo Effect.

In this study, we designed and developed systems composed of poly(ethylene-oxide)--poly(ε-caprolactone) block copolymers of different molecular weights and compositions, non-ionic surfactant, and cyclodextrins. The innovation of this study lies in the combination of these diverse biomaterials to create biomimetic and bioinspired drug delivery supramolecular structures. The systems were formed by the thin-film hydration method.

Single-cell analysis of MYD88 and MYD88 Waldenström macroglobulinemia patients.

Waldenström macroglobulinemia (WM) is characterized by the expansion of clonal lymphoplasmacytic cells; the MYD88L265P somatic mutation is found in >90% of patients, but malignant B cells may still display intra-clonal heterogeneity. To assess clonal heterogeneity in WM, we generated and performed single-cell RNA sequencing of CD19 sorted cells from five patients with and two patients with genotype as well as two healthy donors. We identified distinct transcriptional patterns in the clonal subpopulations not only between the two genetically distinct WM subgroups but also among patients, which affected the B cell composition in the different subgroups.

Although they grow in excessive size, they may cause compression to adjacent organ or structures thus giving rise to symptoms.

Hunger-reducing effects and beneficial changes in gastrointestinal hormones have been reported, in overweight/obese individuals consuming dairy while yogurt takes pride of place due to its unique structure and composition. Although the contribution of yogurt to metabolic regulation has received growing attention, the research studies which examine its role on appetite are limited, especially regarding type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of non-fat, conventional yogurt consumption on appetite hormone responses of T2DM patients following a non-energy-restricted diet.

The technology of transdermal delivery nanosystems: from design and development to preclinical studies.

Transdermal administration has gained much attention due to the remarkable advantages such as patient compliance, drug escape from first-pass elimination, favorable pharmacokinetic profile and prolonged release properties. However, the major limitation of these systems is the limited skin penetration of the stratum corneum, the skin's most important barrier, which protects the body from the insertion of substances from the environment. Transdermal drug delivery systems are aiming to the disruption of the stratum corneum in order for the active pharmaceutical ingredients to enter successfully the circulation.

Effect of silibinin on the expression of MMP2, MMP3, MMP9 and TIMP2 in kidney and lung after hepatic ischemia/reperfusion injury in an experimental rat model.

Purpose: The protective effect of silibinin on kidney and lung parenchyma during hepatic ischemia/reperfusion injury (IRI) is explored.

Methods: Sixty-three Wistar rats were separated into three groups: sham; control (45 min IRI); and silibinin (200 μL silibinin administration after 45 min of ischemia and before reperfusion). Immunohistochemistry and real-time quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) were used to evaluate the expression levels of MMP2, MMP3, MMP9, and TIMP2 on kidney and lung.
