Point mutation of the c-H-ras gene significantly increases cellular transforming activities of Ras. Since posttranslational modification and subsequent membrane localization are essential for the biological activities of Ras, we examined whether or not the mutation also affects these two factors. The normal (Gly(12)) or the transforming (Val(12)) c-H-ras gene was expressed in NIH3T3 cells using a metallothionein promoter.

The percentage of IL-6-producing monocytes increased when stimulated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) at concentrations between 10 ng/ml and 10 mug/ml, in a dose dependent manner. Both FK506 and CsA enhanced the percentage of IL-6- producing monocytes stimulated with 100 pg/ml-1 mug/ml of LPS up to values near those obtained with 10 mug/ml of LPS.

To examine whether or not the location of local abnormalities on body surface isochrone maps reflects the site of myocardial ischemia, 48 coronary artery disease patients without myocardial infarction were studied. Eighty-seven unipolar electrocardiograms distributed over the anterior chest and the back were recorded simultaneously before and after the submaximal treadmill exercise. For each lead, the duration from the QRS onset to the time of the most rapid decrease in QRS voltage was measured (index of ventricular activation [IVA]).

Effects of intracoronary aspirin on coronary blood flow and reactive hyperemia were evaluated in closed-chest, anesthetized dogs. In 18 dogs the left circumflex coronary artery was cannulated and perfused by arterial blood at a constant pressure. Coronary blood flow was measured by an electromagnetic flowmeter.
