Background: The cause of chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) remains largely unknown. Recently, clonal hematopoiesis (CH) has been reported to be associated with cardiovascular and thromboembolic diseases. Here, we investigated the prevalence and clinical impact of CH in patients with CTEPH.

Background: The Direct Oral Anticoagulant (DOAC) Score can predict bleeding risk in patients with atrial fibrillation taking DOACs; however, it lacks external validation. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the association between the DOAC Score and bleeding events in patients with atrial fibrillation who underwent transcatheter aortic valve replacement.
Methods And Results: This retrospective multicenter cohort study included patients with atrial fibrillation who underwent transcatheter aortic valve replacement, as registered in a Japanese multicenter registry.
Background: The Clinical Frailty Scale (CFS) is a useful frailty marker for predicting clinical outcomes in patients undergoing invasive therapy. However, the clinical impact of CFS after transcatheter edge-to-edge repair in patients with mitral regurgitation (MR) remains unclear. This study aimed to elucidate the association between the baseline frail status defined by the CFS and clinical outcomes with or without postprocedural MR ≥2+ (post-MR ≥2+) after transcatheter edge-to-edge repair.

Although social factors have attracted considerable research attention, information regarding their impact on patients with heart failure is scarce. We aimed to investigate the prognostic impact of objective SI and loneliness in older patients with heart failure.

This Japanese nationwide survey analyzed patients with AML ( = 22) and mixed phenotype acute leukemia (MPAL) ( = 10) with t(9;22) or who underwent allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (allo-HCT) between 2002 and 2018. The 3-year overall survival (OS) rates were 81.

Methods and Results From the Optimized Catheter Valvular Intervention (OCEAN-Mitral) registry, a total of 2150 patients (primary cause of 34.6%) undergoing transcatheter edge-to-edge repair were analyzed and classified into 3 groups according to the residual MR severity at discharge: MR 0+/1+, 2+, and 3+/4+.

Background: Transoral salvage surgery has the potential to preserve a patient's quality of life. Therefore, we investigated the outcomes, safety, and risk factors for postoperative complications of salvage transoral videolaryngoscopic surgery (TOVS) for recurrent hypopharyngeal carcinoma after radiotherapy (RT) or chemoradiotherapy (CRT).
Methods: This retrospective analysis enrolled patients with hypopharyngeal cancer who had a history of RT or CRT and underwent TOVS from January 2008 to June 2021.
A high resting heart rate is an independent risk factor for mortality and morbidity in patients with cardiovascular diseases. Ivabradine selectively inhibits the funny current ( ) and decreases heart rate without affecting cardiac conduction, contractility, or blood pressure. The effect of ivabradine on exercise tolerance in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) on standard drug therapies remains unclear.

However, lab-to-lab variability jeopardizes the much-needed progress in the field. Here, an international group of spine scientists collaborated to standardize extraction and expansion techniques for NP cells to reduce variability, improve comparability between labs and improve utilization of funding and resources.

Aim: Communication and video transmission delays negatively affect telerobotic surgery. Since latency varies by communication environment and robot, to realize remote surgery, both must perform well. This study aims to examine the feasibility of telerobotic surgery by validating the communication environment and local/remote robot operation, using secure commercial lines and newly developed robots.

Background: Cell therapy is considered a promising strategy for intervertebral disc (IVD) regeneration. However, cell products often require long-term cryopreservation, which compromises cell viability and potency, thus potentially hindering commercialization and off-the-shelf availability. Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) is a commonly used cryoprotectant, however, DMSO is associated with cytotoxicity and cell viability loss.

Aim: This study aimed to clarify the clinical effects of the indocyanine green (ICG)-fluorescence imaging (FI) technique for determination of liver transection lines during laparoscopic partial liver resection for liver tumors.
Methods: This was a retrospective study including 112 patients who underwent laparoscopic partial liver resection for liver tumors. These enrolled patients were divided into an ICG-FI group (n = 55) and a non-ICG-FI group (n = 57) according to the availability of the ICG-FI.
Autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) remains an important therapeutic strategy for multiple myeloma; however, a proportion of patients fail to mobilize a sufficient number of peripheral blood stem cells (PBSCs) to proceed to ASCT. In the present study, we aimed to clarify the characteristics and outcomes of poor mobilizers. Clinical data on poorly mobilized patients who underwent PBSC harvest for almost 10 years were retrospectively collected from 44 institutions in the Japanese Society of Myeloma (JSM).

We report the first case of organizing pneumonia (OP) associated with a new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccination. A 78-year-old woman developed cough and dyspnoea 10 days after receiving BNT162b2. Chest computed tomography (CT) revealed consolidation in the bilateral lower lobes of the lungs.

Veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) has been widely used for patients with acute myocardial infarction complicated by cardiogenic shock refractory to conservative therapy, which is likely fatal without mechanical circulatory support. However, whether additional intra-aortic balloon pumping (IABP) use during VA-ECMO support improves clinical outcomes remains controversial.

However, there is no evidence of the superiority or inferiority of the posterior mediastinal (PM) versus the retrosternal (RS) reconstruction route with regard to short-term outcomes after esophagectomy. We aimed to elucidate whether the reconstruction route can affect the short-term outcomes after esophagectomy followed by gastric conduit reconstruction.

Biologics such as bevacizumab and antiepidermal growth factor receptor antibodies have failed to show additional survival benefits. The indication of adjuvant chemotherapy has been determined according to the pathological stage.
