Background: This study aimed to investigate potential cellular senescence inhibitory genes (CSIGs) and discover novel therapeutic targets in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.

Methods: Dysregulated CSIGs were identified based on The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and the Human Aging Genomic Resources (HAGR) database. Prognostic value and immune infiltration were assessed through bioinformatic analysis.

The kinases AMPK, and mTOR as part of either mTORC1 or mTORC2, are major orchestrators of cellular growth and metabolism. Phosphorylation of mTOR Ser1261 is reportedly stimulated by both insulin and AMPK activation and a regulator of both mTORC1 and mTORC2 activity. Intrigued by the possibilities that Ser1261 might be a convergence point between insulin and AMPK signaling in skeletal muscle, we investigated the regulation and function of this site using a combination of human exercise, transgenic mouse, and cell culture models.

Introduction: It is unknown whether prodromal dizziness (PD) before an attack of vestibular neuritis (VN) has an association with peripheral vestibular lesions. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether the severity of vestibular dysfunction has an association with the presence of PD.

Methods: We reviewed the medical records of 88 consecutive unilateral VN patients with unilateral canal paresis in caloric testing.

Previous studies observe the global patterns and flow of information in rsfMRI using methods such as sliding window or temporal lags.

The effect of neoadjuvant chemotherapy on survival outcomes in patients with variant histologies who underwent radical cystectomy with precystectomy diagnostic accuracy: A multicenter study of the Turkish Urooncology Association.

Objectives: To evaluate the role of neoadjuvant chemotherapy in the final treatment plan and its impact on survival in bladder cancer patients who were diagnosed with variant histology in the radical cystectomy specimen and whose diagnostic accuracy was achieved with the previous transurethral resection of the bladder specimen.

Methods: In this retrospective multicenter study, data from 221 patients across 9 centers were analyzed between January 2012 and January 2022. The primary endpoint was overall, cancer-specific, recurrence-free, and metastasis-free survival rates among patients with and without neoadjuvant chemotherapy, and the secondary endpoint was to identify independent predictors of survival.

Theory-driven assessment of cognitive flexibility in bulimia nervosa: a preliminary study.

Background: Cognitive flexibility (CF) is defined as the ability to switch efficiently between different concepts or tasks. Empirical evidence of CF in individuals with bulimia nervosa (BN), offers conflicting conclusions, attributed to how CF is conceptualized and operationalized. The aims of the current study were to compare CF performance of women with BN to healthy controls, utilising a CF model that includes three subtypes termed: task switching, switching sets and stimulus-response mapping.

Previous preclinical and translational studies suggest that tissue trauma related to bony fracture and intervertebral disk disruption initiates the formation of pronociceptive antibodies that support chronic musculoskeletal pain conditions. This study tested this hypothesis in the monosodium iodoacetate (MIA) mouse model of osteoarthritis (OA) and extended the findings using OA patient samples. Monosodium iodoacetate was injected unilaterally into the knees of male and female wild-type (WT) and muMT mice (lacking B cells) to induce articular cartilage damage.

Cross-titration from risperidone to clozapine utilizing clozapine serum concentrations: A case report.

Introduction: Clozapine and risperidone are second-generation antipsychotics used in the treatment of schizophrenia. There are no guidelines on cross-titration of antipsychotics and, additionally, there is a paucity of published data to support the potential utility of using serum drug levels to guide dosing in these situations.

Case Report: A 68-year-old female patient with a history of schizophrenia, taking risperidone and fluoxetine, and a recent diagnosis of Parkinson's disease was admitted to the hospital after a fall at home.

Induction of macroautophagy/autophagy has been established as an important function elicited by the CGAS-STING1 pathway during pathogen infection. However, it remains unknown whether lysosomal activity within the cell in these settings is concurrently enhanced to cope with the increased autophagic flux. Recently, we discovered that the CGAS-STING1 pathway elevates the degradative capacity of the cell by activating lysosome biogenesis.

Improving estimation efficiency for survival data analysis by integrating a coarsened time-to-event outcome from an external study.

In the era of big data, increasing availability of data makes combining different data sources to obtain more accurate estimations a popular topic. However, the development of data integration is often hindered by the heterogeneity in data forms across studies. In this paper, we focus on a case in survival analysis where we have primary study data with a continuous time-to-event outcome and complete covariate measurements, while the data from an external study contain an outcome observed at regular intervals, and only a subset of covariates is measured.

The Role of Proton Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy in Neonatal and Fetal Brain Research.

The biochemical composition and structure of the brain are in a rapid change during the exuberant stage of fetal and neonatal development. H-MRS is a noninvasive tool that can evaluate brain metabolites in healthy fetuses and infants as well as those with neurological diseases. This review aims to provide readers with an understanding of 1) the basic principles and technical considerations relevant to H-MRS in the fetal-neonatal brain and 2) the role of H-MRS in early fetal-neonatal development brain research.

Breast cancer surveillance for epithelial ovarian cancer patients with BRCA1 and BRCA2 pathogenic variants: a single-center retrospective study.

Objectives: To identify a method for breast cancer (BC) surveillance in patients with epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) with germline BRCA1/2 pathogenic variants (gBRCA1/2m) and the incidence of BC after EOC in the era of broad PARP inhibitors use.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the data on EOC patients who had gBRCA1/2m by genetic testing between January 2017 and August 2023 in our single center.

Results: Of 125 patients with EOC, 33 had gBRCA1/2m.

Ankylosing Spondylitis and Cancer Risk.

Chronic inflammation is a major characteristic of ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and is closely related to the mechanisms of cancer development. Persistent inflammatory responses can lead to DNA damage, gene mutations, and abnormal cell proliferation, all of which may increase the risk of cancer. We also explore the use of biologic therapy of AS and their potential cancer risks.

Capnographic monitoring using a novel mainstream system during endoscopic ultrasound and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography: A prospective randomized controlled trial.

Background/purpose: Insufficient studies exist on capnography efficacy during endoscopic ultrasound or endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, and no definitive conclusions have been drawn. To evaluate the feasibility and efficacy of a novel mainstream capnography using an over-the-biteblock end-tidal CO (EtCO) detector in decreasing the risk of hypoxemia during endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP).

Methods: Patients undergoing EUS or ERCP with conscious sedation at a single Japanese center were randomized to a control or a novel capnography monitored (intervention) group in a 1:1 ratio.

Fatty acids are essential biomolecules that support several cellular processes, such as membrane structures, energy storage and production, as well as signal transduction. Accordingly, changes in fatty acid metabolism can have a significant impact on cell behavior, such as growth, survival, proliferation, differentiation, and motility. Therefore, it is not surprising that many aspects of fatty acid metabolism are frequently dysregulated in human cancer, including in highly aggressive blood cancers such as acute leukemia.
