Background: Pain assessment in the infant population is challenging owing to their inability to verbalize and hence self-report pain. Currently, there is a paucity of data on how parents identify and manage this pain at home using standardized pain assessment tools.
Objective: This study aimed to explore parents' assessment and intervention of pain in their infants at home following same-day surgery, using standardized pain assessment tools.

Objectives: Seamless clinical trials have received much attention as a possible way to expedite drug development. The growing importance of seamless design can be seen in oncology research, especially in the early stages of drug development. Our objective is to examine the basic characteristics of seamless early-phase oncology trials registered on the ClinicalTrials.

Introduction: The vestibular organ (VO) is essential for maintaining balance and stabilizing visual images during head movements. To evaluate its function, the strength of the vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR) is assessed using kinetic tests like the Sinusoidal Harmonic Acceleration Test (SHAT), video Head Impulse Test (vHIT), and slow-phase peak velocity (SPV) measurement in the caloric test (CT). Despite their limited sensitivity and specificity, they are used to determine eligibility for positions requiring strong balance control.

Objectives: The burgeoning prevalence of cardiometabolic disorders, including type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and metabolic syndrome (MetS) within Africa is concerning. Machine learning (ML) techniques offer a unique opportunity to leverage data-driven insights and construct predictive models for MetS risk, thereby enhancing the implementation of personalised prevention strategies. In this work, we employed ML techniques to develop predictive models for pre-MetS and MetS among diabetic patients.

Introduction: The role of calprotectin in psoriasis still remains unclear.
Aim: To elucidate the associations between the concentrations of serum and faecal calprotectin (CP) and the severity of psoriasis in 20 patients with moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis and 20 healthy individuals.
Material And Methods: The CP levels as well as the disease severity including Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI), Body Surface Area (BSA) score and Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) were assessed.

This study investigates the nutritional composition and bioactive properties of (dulse), (knotted wrack), and (Irish moss). Understanding the nutritional values of these seaweeds is very important due to their potential health benefits, especially their antioxidant properties and cytotoxic activities, which point to their ability to inhibit cancer cell proliferation. Comprehensive analyses were conducted to assess protein content, amino acid composition, mineral profile, fatty acids, polyphenols, total carotenoids, antioxidant activity, and cytotoxicity against cervical (HeLa), and colon (HCT-116) cell lines.

: Depression is a known factor in poor cardiovascular outcomes but is often underassessed in cardiac units. This study evaluates the impact of depression on cardiovascular outcomes in patients undergoing cardiac interventions. The study included 133 patients who underwent uncomplicated procedures for degenerative aortic valve stenosis (n = 40), acute coronary syndrome (n = 29), or chronic coronary artery disease (n = 64).

Improving social and emotional well-being (SEWB) among Indigenous adolescents is crucial. Since neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) are common in Indigenous people and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are important contributors to negative health outcomes throughout the lifespan, we investigated whether limited ACE exposure is associated with reduced risk of NDDs in Australian Indigenous teens using the data from multiple waves (Wave 1 to Wave 9, and Wave 11) of the Longitudinal Study of Indigenous Children (LSIC). We also examined the role of other protective factors, such as Indigenous cultural identity and school connectedness, against NDDs.

While morphological examination is the most widely used for identification in clinical laboratories, PCR-sequencing and MALDI-TOF MS are emerging technologies in more financially-competent laboratories. However, mycological expertise, molecular biologists and/or expensive equipment are needed for these. Recently, artificial intelligence (AI), especially image recognition, is being increasingly employed in medicine for fast and automated disease diagnosis.

Background/objectives: Inborn errors of immunity (IEI) encompass various congenital disorders, resulting in immunity defects and recurrent infections. Home-based subcutaneous immunoglobulin replacement therapy (scIgRT) is the best treatment option for those with primary antibody deficiency (PAD). However, the lack of standardized procedures in patient training remains a challenge.

Objectives: The widespread adoption of self-testing for SARS-CoV-2 has proven effective in curbing the virus' spread, particularly in Western countries. However, significant knowledge gaps persist regarding the feasibility, acceptance and factors influencing the uptake of self-testing in low-resource areas, notably rural Africa. Our aim was to assess the willingness and capability of rural Zimbabwean participants to self-diagnose COVID-19 using rapid lateral flow tests (LFTs) and adhere to post-positive test guidelines.

Background: Incorporating evidence-based approaches in maternity care throughout the entire trajectory from pregnancy through to the postnatal phase is integral to good public health. Yet, despite developing theories, frameworks, and models to guide midwives' implementation efforts, implementing new evidence-based practices in midwifery practice settings remains challenging.
Methods: An exploratory study design was used to conduct an initial assessment of the appeal and suitability of an implementation 'how to' Toolkit for Australian change-leader midwives.

Recent increases in community-associated infections have highlighted the importance of monitoring toxigenic from animal and environmental sources. We provide the complete circularized genomes of two toxigenic strains isolated from feral horse faeces. Genome N64 (sequence type 964) consists of a single chromosome of 4,078,791 bp, while genome H251 (sequence type 963) comprises one chromosome (4,304,722 bp) and three plasmids (150,942 bp, 11,534 bp, and 9,074 bp).

Background: In the UK, over 7,000 people are on the waiting list for an organ transplant and there are inequalities in need, access and waiting time for organs, with notable differences between minority ethnic groups. In May 2020, England changed the law and introduced a 'soft' opt-out system of consent to organ donation with a view to increase consent rates. We aimed to learn more about the impact of the law change on attitudes and views likely to be relevant to consent to deceased organ donation between different population subgroups.
