Exercise training has been shown to blunt many of the physiological declines and common diseases of the aging process. One such beneficial effect is the reduction of blood pressure (BP) in hypertensive older adults. However, there is no consensus about which benefits of aerobic (AT) or resistance training (RT) may be lost by the use of combined training (CT) or even what benefits could be acquired only by performing CT, considering the extensive health needs of older adults with hypertension.

Nasal airway evaluation in obstructive sleep apnoea patients: volumetric tomography and endoscopic findings.

Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) results from the recurrent collapse of the upper airway during sleep. Nasal abnormalities influence the stability of the pharynx. The aim of this study was to evaluate the volumetric and anatomical changes of the nasal cavity in patients with OSA.

Background: Graft elongation might be a major reason for increased anterior laxity after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. This study analyzed the force relaxation values and their stabilization when single strands of the gracilis and semitendinosus tendons underwent cyclic and static tensioning at 2.5% strain level, and compared the efficiency of static and cyclic tensioning in promoting force relaxation.

Analysis of Mandibular Test Specimens Used to Assess a Bone Fixation System.

The aim of this study was to assess through biomechanical testing if different synthetic materials used to fabricate test specimens have a different biomechanical behavior in comparison with other materials when simulating in vitro load resistance of a fixation method established for sagittal split ramus osteotomy (SSRO). Thirty synthetic and standardized human hemimandible replicas with SSRO were divided into three groups of 10 samples each. Group A-ABS plastic; Group B-polyamide; and Group C-polyurethane.

Study Design: This was an observational study using cephalometric analysis of lateral teleradiographs for the distances of H-MP (hyoid to mandibular plane). Spearman's correlation analysis was performed with MA (mandibular angle) in two groups: the experimental group with atypical deglutition and the control group normal deglutition.

Impact of long-term administration of amiodarone on the thyroid function of patients with Chagas' disease.

The effect of long-term treatment with amiodarone on patients with Chagas' disease has seldom been reported. This nonrandomized observational study attempted to analyze the follow-up of patients with Chagas' disease regarding their clinical evolution, thyroid dysfunction, and goiter. We compared 72 patients with long-term use (11 +/- 5 years) of amiodarone, including 22 patients who developed goiter, to 33 patients who did not use amiodarone, followed-up for 2 to 20 years (7 +/- 11 years).
