To investigate the specific differences in flavor characteristics of fermented with different rice varieties, dynamic sensory evaluation, comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography-quadrupole mass spectrometry (GC × GC-qMS) and multivariate statistical analysis were employed. Dynamic sensory evaluation methods including temporal dominance of sensations (TDS) and temporal check all that apply (TCATA) were applied to explore the differences and variations in sensory attributes. The sensory results showed that the intensity of astringency and post-bitterness in the fermented with glutinous rice was weaker while ester and alcoholic aroma were more prominent than the one fermented with japonica rice.

Nociceptive signals are usually transmitted to layer 4 neurons in somatosensory cortex via the spinothalamic-thalamocortical pathway. The layer 5 corticospinal neurons in sensorimotor cortex are reported to receive the output of neurons in superficial layers; and their descending axons innervate the spinal cord to regulate basic sensorimotor functions. Here, we show that a subset of layer 5 neurons receives spinal inputs through a direct spino-cortical circuit bypassing the thalamus, and thus define these neurons as spino-cortical recipient neurons (SCRNs).

The development of a straightforward, economical, portable, and highly sensitive sensing platform for the rapid detection of cholesterol is desirable for the early diagnosis of several pathologic conditions. In this work, we present a fascinating skin-worn microneedle sensor for monitoring cholesterol in interstitial fluid samples. The microneedle sensor was developed by incorporating platinum (Pt) and silver (Ag) wires within pyramidal microneedles containing a microcavity opening; cholesterol oxidase (ChOx) was coupled on the Pt transducer surface using bovine serum albumin and Nafion.

School of Medical Instrument and Food Engineering, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, Shanghai, 200093, China. Electronic address:

Listeria monocytogenes (Lm) is a food bacterium with strong pathogenicity which causes infections via the gastrointestinal tract. Mechanisms by which gut microbiota (GM) resist microbial infections have received little attention. Eight-week-old mice were orally inoculated with wild-type Lm EGD-e and fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) employed.

CoV2-TCR: A web server for screening TCR CDR3 from TCR immune repertoire of COVID-19 patients and their recognized SARS-CoV-2 epitopes.

Comput Struct Biotechnol J

January 2023

Bioinformatics Center & National Clinical Research Centre for Geriatric Disorders & Department of Geriatrics, Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, Changsha, Hunan, China.

Although multiple vaccines have been developed and widely administered, several severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) variants have been reported to evade immune responses and spread diffusely. Here, 108 RNA-seq files from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients and healthy donors (HD) were downloaded to extract their TCR immune repertoire by MiXCR. Those extracted TCR repertoire were compared and it was found that disease progression was related negatively with diversity and positively with clonality.

Background: There is a shortage of clinicians with sufficient expertise in the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD), and cerebrospinal fluid biometric collection and positron emission tomography diagnosis are invasive. Therefore, it is of potential significance to obtain high-precision automatic diagnosis results from diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) through deep learning, and simultaneously output feature probability maps to provide clinical auxiliary diagnosis.

Objective: We proposed a factorization machine combined neural network (FMCNN) model combining a multi-function convolutional neural network (MCNN) with a fully convolutional network (FCN), while accurately diagnosing AD and mild cognitive impairment (MCI); corresponding fiber bundle visualization results are generated to describe their status.

Search for Solar ^{8}B Neutrinos in the PandaX-4T Experiment Using Neutrino-Nucleus Coherent Scattering.

Phys Rev Lett

January 2023

School of Physics and Astronomy, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Key Laboratory for Particle Astrophysics and Cosmology (MoE), Shanghai Key Laboratory for Particle Physics and Cosmology, Shanghai 200240, China.

A search for interactions from solar ^{8}B neutrinos elastically scattering off xenon nuclei using PandaX-4T commissioning data is reported. The energy threshold of this search is further lowered compared with the previous search for dark matter, with various techniques utilized to suppress the background that emerges from data with the lowered threshold. A blind analysis is performed on the data with an effective exposure of 0.

Background: Current guidelines for brace management of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) are mostly recommended for curves between 25° to 40°. For AIS patients with curves >40°, surgery is often considered since bracing may be less effective; however, there are still some patients and families who refuse operation. Therefore, further research is necessary to determine optimal bracing management in this group.

α-Glucosidase and α-amylase are the two main glycosidases that participate in the metabolism of carbohydrates. Inhibitors of these two enzymes are considered an important medical treatment for carbohydrate uptake disorders, such as diabetes and obesity. Microbes are an important source of constituents that have the potential to inhibit glycosidases and can be used as sources of new drugs and dietary supplements.

as a biomarker for the quality of immune response to neoantigens is related with an increased overall survival in multiple myeloma.

Mol Ther Nucleic Acids

September 2022

Bioinformatics Center & National Clinical Research Centre for Geriatric Disorders & Department of Geriatrics, Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, Changsha, Hunan, China.

Neoantigen provides a promising breakthrough in tumor immunotherapy, although only a subset of patients responds well due to the quality of their immune response. However, few biomarkers have been reported to measure the quality of immune response to neoantigens and to predict prognosis of patients with multiple myeloma (MM). Here, we first developed a neoantigen-prediction pipeline starting from outcomes of somatic mutations and gene-expression profiles.

Effect of expanded polytetrafluoroethylene thickness on paclitaxel release and edge stenosis in stent graft.

Front Bioeng Biotechnol

July 2022

Shanghai Institute for Minimally Invasive Therapy, School of Medical Instrument and Food Engineering, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, Shanghai, China.

Stent grafts have been widely used to treat lower extremity arterial stenosis or occlusion. However, there are major issues with edge stenosis and loss of patency over time. Paclitaxel-coated stent grafts have been proven to be effective in preventing edge stenosis, but the insufficient amounts of paclitaxel released may limit the effectiveness of drug-eluting stent grafts.
