Cytosolic thiouridylase is a conserved cytoplasmic tRNA thiolase composed of two different subunits, CTU1 and CTU2. CTU2 serves as a scaffold protein, while CTU1 catalyzes the 2-thiolation at the 34th wobble uridine of the anticodon loop. tRNAGlnUUG, tRNAGluUUC, and tRNALysUUU are the tRNA substrates that are modified with a thiol group at the C2 positions (s2) by CTU1, and also with a methoxycarbonylmethyl group at the C5 positions (mcm5) by Elongator and ALKBH8.

Development of a colorimetric/fluorescence dual-mode immunoassay for aflatoxin B1 based on streptavidin-induced gold nanoparticle aggregation.

Mikrochim Acta

December 2024

Tianjin Key Laboratory of Risk Assessment and Control Technology for Environment and Food Safety, Military Medical Sciences Academy, Academy of Military Science, Tianjin, 300050, China.

A dual-mode immunoassay method was developed for colorimetric and fluorescence detection of aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) based on streptavidin-induced gold nanoparticle aggregation (AuNP@SA). AuNP-modified streptavidin-biotin labeling AFB1 complete antigen aggregations (AuNP@SA@Bio-BSA-AFB1) were synthesized as the competitive binding and dual-mode probe. AuNP@SA@Bio-BSA-AFB1 aggregations possessed high colorimetric and fluorescence quenching intensities.

Electronic address:

The intestinal mucus layer plays a crucial role in the systemic absorption of drugs. While penetration through this layer traditionally constitutes a pivotal phase in drug absorption, the approach for treating ulcerative colitis (UC) shifts towards facilitating the direct delivery of drugs to the colon. In this study, we engineered a chitosan-modified microemulsion encapsulated nobiletin (NOB-CS-ME) characterized by small particle dimensions and positive charge specifically, designed to enable targeted delivery.

A novel label-free electrochemical immunosensor for the ultrasensitive determination of cancer antigen (CA724) was developed using a novel composite of CoAl layered double hydroxides (CoAl-LDH) and carboxyl-functionalized multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs-COOH) as platform and ferrocenecarboxylic acid (Fc-COOH) as signal label. The MWCNTs-COOH/Fc-COOH@CoAl-LDH composite was prepared by a convenient and simple one-step ultrasonic method, and various characterization techniques consisting of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transimission electronic microscopy (TEM), TEM-Mapping, fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectronic energy spectrum (XPS) were applied to study the size and morphological features. Due to its large specific surface area and multilayer structure, the CoAl-LDH can be post-doped to embed a large amount of signal probe to realize the amplification of the internal reference signal Fc.

School of Perfume and Aroma Technology, Shanghai Institute of Technology, Shanghai 201418, China. Electronic address:

Edible fungi are emerging as a valuable dietary fiber source with health benefits, where their bioactivity hinges on their structure. This study targets the structure-activity relationship of soluble dietary fibers from Lentinus edodes (LESDF), Agaricus bisporus (ABSDF), and Hericium erinaceus (HESDF), focusing on their impact on gut microbiota and health. We explored the properties and structures of edible fungi, finding their soluble fibers affect metabolites and gut microbiota by increasing gas and lowering pH.

Anticoagulant therapy can significantly reduce the incidence of stroke and peripheral embolism events in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). Although warfarin is widely used as an anticoagulant drug, a wrong dose can lead to increased risks of bleeding or blood clots. The aim of this study was to assess whether nuclear factor-erythroid-2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) can improve the efficacy of warfarin through the regulation of cytochrome P450 family 2 subfamily C member 9 (CYP2C9) using a rat model of AF.

Inhibition of Extracellular Signal-Regulated Kinase Activity Improves Cognitive Function in Mice Subjected to Myocardial Infarction.

Cardiovasc Toxicol

August 2024

Department of Anesthesiology, Shanghai Chest Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, School of Medicine, No. 241 West Huaihai Rd., Shanghai, China.

Cognitive impairment is a commonly observed complication following myocardial infarction; however, the underlying mechanisms are still not well understood. The most recent research suggests that extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) plays a critical role in the development and occurrence of cognitive dysfunction-related diseases. This study aims to explore whether the ERK inhibitor U0126 targets the ERK/Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription 1 (STAT1) pathway to ameliorate cognitive impairment after myocardial infarction.

A novel molecularly imprinted nanomaterial (Eu (BTC)-MPS@MIP) was synthesized on the surface of silanized europium-based metal-organic frameworks (Eu (BTC)-MPS) using 1, 3, 5-benzotrioic acid (HBTC) as a ligand. The resulting Eu (BTC)-MPS@MIP was applied to constructing a smartphone sensing platform for the sensitive and selective detection of clothianidin (CLT) in vegetables. The synthesized Eu (BTC)-MPS@MIP demonstrated the successful formation of a typical core-shell structure featuring a shell thickness of approximately 70 - 80 nm.

With increasing age, there is a notable increase in the differentiation of bone marrow-derived mononuclear cells (BMMs) into osteoclasts, accompanied by a concurrent rise in both osteoclast quantity and activity. This escalation in osteoclastic activity accelerates bone resorption, which in turn contributes to age-related bone loss and metabolic bone disorders, notably osteoporosis. Our study confirms that elevated IL-19 expression promotes aging-induced bone loss in aged mice and sheds light on the regulatory mechanisms upstream of IL-19 expression and secretion.

College of Food Science and Pharmaceutical Engineering, Zaozhuang University, Shandong, China.

Gut microbiota (GM) has been proven to resist pathogenic infection through nutritional competition, colonization resistance and promotion of the host immune response. However, in clinical practice, GM is mainly used in intestinal diseases, such as infection, and there are few reports on its application in the treatment of pathogenic bacterial infections. In this study, GM from healthy mice was transplanted into mice infected with using fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) and the effects were observed.

Search for Dark-Matter-Nucleon Interactions with a Dark Mediator in PandaX-4T.

Phys Rev Lett

November 2023

Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of California, Riverside, California 92507, USA.

Article Synopsis
  • This study presents findings from the PandaX-4T experiment, focusing on detecting interactions between dark matter and nucleons through a dark mediator.
  • By analyzing low-energy ionization signal data and applying the Migdal effect, the researchers establish the most stringent limits on the cross section for dark matter masses between 30 MeV/c² and 2 GeV/c².
  • The research also challenges a model where a dark photon decays into scalar dark matter pairs, significantly limiting the possible parameters for this thermal relic dark matter scenario.

In this study, the digestion and fermentation properties of the bioactive water-soluble polysaccharide (HEP-W), and alkali-soluble polysaccharide (HEP-A) from and the impact on the human colonic microbiota were determined using simulated saliva-gastrointestinal digestion and human fecal fermentation models in vitro. The basic physicochemical properties of HEP-W and HEP-A were determined at the same time. The results showed that the in vitro simulated digestion had almost no effect on the physicochemical properties of HEP-W and HEP-A, indicating that HEP-W and HEP-A were partially degraded.
