Optimizing pre-carbonization temperature of sesame residue for hierarchical porous carbon materials in high-performance supercapacitor applications.

Nanotechnology

August 2023

School of Chemistry and Environmental Engineering, Hubei Key Laboratory of Novel Reactor and Green Chemistry Technology, Wuhan Institute of Technology, Wuhan 430205, People's Republic of China.

In this paper, the sesame residue, a common biomass waste, was used as a precursor to synthesize N,O co-doped porous carbon materials via a simple pre-carbonization and KNOactivation two-step strategy. The apparent morphology and supercapacitor performance of the obtained materials can be regulated by changing the pre-carbonization temperature (0 °C, 300 °C and 600 °C). The consequences demonstrate that a large number of C-C and C-O bonds in sesame residue undergo cleavage and form abundant pore structure at the pre-carbonization temperature of 300 °C.

As a significant parameter in tuning the structure and performance of the boron-doped diamond (BDD), the thickness was focused on the mediation of the boron doping level and electrochemical properties. BDD films with different thicknesses were deposited on silicon wafers by the hot filament chemical vapor deposition (HFCVD) method. The surface morphology and composition of the BDD films were characterized by SEM and Raman, respectively.

Fabrication of biodegradable poly (lactic acid)/carbon nanotube nanocomposite foams: Significant improvement on rheological property and foamability.

Int J Biol Macromol

November 2020

Beijing Key Laboratory of Quality Evaluation Technology for Hygiene and Safety of Plastics, School of Materials and Mechanical Engineering, Beijing Technology and Business University, Beijing 100048, PR China.

Recently, biodegradable macromolecules have been highly desired as a promising alternative for traditional oil-based plastics to work out the eco crisis and biological health problems triggered by microplastics. Herein, we presented a simple, effective, environmentally friendly and CO-based foaming methodology for fabricating ultra-low-density poly (lactic acid)/carbon nanotube (PLA/CNTs) nanocomposite foam. By the gradual incorporation of CNTs, three kinds of networks generated in PLA/CNTs nanocomposites and had a distinct reinforcement influence on their melt viscoelasticity, which testified by transmission electron microscope, electrical conductivity and rheological property measurements, severally.

A supramolecular polymer (CDP-DA) was prepared through the crosslinking reaction among the assembled complexes (CDDA) based on β-cyclodextrin (β-CyD) and octadecylamine (ODA). The structural properties of CDP-DA were clarified by experimental techniques such as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope, and thermal analysis. Based on the results of molecular docking, the crosslinking unit, CDDA, in the CDP-DA structure favors to exhibit the configuration that narrow rims of two host compounds (β-CyD) are opposite to each other leaving the amino group of ODA outside the host cavity.

Due to the hydrophobic nature of poly (butylene terephthalate) (PBAT), and the hydrophilic nature of bamboo flour (BF), a BF/PBAT (50/50) blend shows low mechanical properties, and especially shows poor impact strength. In order to increase the interfacial adhesion between BF and PBAT, diisocyanate was used as a reactive compatibilizer to modify bamboo powder. A series of BF/PBAT composites were prepared by the method of mixing and melting in an internal mixer.

Achieving Slope-Reigned Na-Ion Storage in Carbon Nanofibers by Constructing Defect-Rich Texture by a Cu-Activation Strategy.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

January 2020

State Key Laboratory of Chemical Resource Engineering, Beijing Key Laboratory of Electrochemical Process and Technology for Materials , Beijing University of Chemical Technology, Beijing 100029 , P. R. China.

Hard carbons have shown promising application potential as anode materials for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs), but adjusting the texture of hard carbons to manipulate their electrochemical behaviors remains a great challenge. In this work, a Cu-activation strategy is developed to control the defects of hard carbon nanofibers to achieve slope-reigned Na-ion storage behaviors. This method can effectively create defect-rich carbon texture by employing a small amount of Cu(NO) as an activator but cannot induce an increase in the surface area.

Photocatalytic TiO₂ Nanoparticles Activated by Dielectric Barrier Discharge Plasma Assisted Ball Milling.

J Nanosci Nanotechnol

March 2020

National Engineering Laboratory for Modern Materials Surface Engineering Technology, Guangdong Institute of New Materials, Guangzhou 510651, PR China.

Developing defects on the surface of TiO₂ nanoparticles by mechanical treatment is a fascinating approach to enhance photocatalytic efficiency. However, it poses risks to producing bulk defects and phase transformation, which seriously deteriorates photocatalytic performance. Here, activating TiO₂ nanoparticles was elaborately fulfilled by using dielectric barrier discharge plasma assisted ball milling (DBDP-milling) as it imposes plasma to nano-scaled particles along with soft mechanical impact.

In this study, composite aerogels with excellent mechanical properties were prepared by using carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) as raw materials, with carboxylic carbon nanotubes (CNTs) as reinforcement. By controlling the mass fraction of CNTs, composite aerogels with different CNTs were prepared, and the surface morphology, specific surface area, compressive modulus, density and adsorption capacities towards different oils were studied. Compared to the pure CMC aerogel, the specific surface areas of CMC/CNTs were decreased because of the agglomeration of CNTs.
