Recent discoveries indicating that the brain retains its ability to adapt and change throughout life have sparked interest in cognitive training (CT) as a possible means to postpone the development of dementia. Despite this, most research has focused on confirming the efficacy of training outcomes, with few studies examining the correlation between performance and results across various stages of training. In particular, the relationship between initial performance and the extent of improvement, the rate of learning, and the asymptotic performance level throughout the learning curve remains ambiguous.

A city perspective on the arduous task of emission-growth balance: decoupling and decomposition analysis in Chinese cities.

Decoupling economic growth and carbon emissions is essential to a sustainable high-quality development. As a small unit of the engine of development, more research has begun to focus on city-level issues. In order to fill the gaps in the decoupling research at the city level covering the whole nationwide, this paper applied the bottom-up method to calculate 282 cities' carbon emissions according to China's city-level panel data of terminal energy consumption, and combined Tapio decoupling with LMDI decomposition model to analyze cities' decoupling status and its driving factors.

Data-driven automated job shop scheduling optimization considering AGV obstacle avoidance.

The production stage of an automated job shop is closely linked to the automated guided vehicle (AGV), which needs to be planned in an integrated manner to achieve overall optimization. In order to improve the collaboration between the production stages and the AGV operation system, a two-layer scheduling optimization model is proposed for simultaneous decision making of batching problems, job sequences and AGV obstacle avoidance. Under the AGV automatic path seeking mode, this paper adopts a data-driven Bayesian network method to portray the transportation time of AGVs based on the historical operation data to control the uncertainty of the transportation time of AGVs.

The impact of village heads' educational levels on adolescent academic performance: Evidence from rural China.

This study investigates the relationship between the educational level of village heads and the academic performance of adolescents, using data from the China Family Panel Studies (CFPS). The analysis reveals that village chiefs with well-educated significantly enhance the academic outcomes of adolescents within their communities. This positive effect remains robust even after controlling for endogeneity through instrumental variables and conducting various robustness checks.

New path to green transformation: Exploring the impact of corporate governance on environmental information disclosure quality of new energy companies.

An essential aspect of improving market openness, fostering investor trust, and allowing the establishment and implementation of sustainable development policies lies in enhancing the disclosure quality of new energy firms. This study examines the influence of corporate governance on the disclosure quality of new energy companies listed on the Chinese A-share market. The analysis is conducted using a two-way fixed-effects model and particularly focuses on the role of green transformation in this relationship.

The returns-connectedness between environment, social, and governance funds and biofuels.

This study investigates the returns-connectedness (RC) between Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) funds and biofuel markets. RC analysis helps stakeholders understand the role of ESG funds in promoting biofuel transitions. Using econometric models such as the Time-Varying Parameter Vector AutoRegressive (TVP-VAR) and Continuous Wavelet Transform (CWT), we examine RC with data from January 2019 to December 2023.

Qualitative Study on the Real Experiences of Patients with Meige Syndrome Based on the Individual and Family Self-Management Theory.

Objective: This study aimed to analyze the real experiences of patients with Meige Syndrome, which is an idiopathic dystonia, during the perioperative period and to explore the practical application and effectiveness of Individual and Family Self-Management Theory (IFSMT) in improving patient experiences.

Methods: A qualitative descriptive research methodology was employed to elucidate the intricate psychological and social experiences encountered by patients with Meige Syndrome throughout the perioperative phase. This study conduct face-to-face, one-on-one, semi-structured interviews with 16 Meige Syndrome patients to gain an in-depth understanding of the patients' true feelings and needs.

The Effect of Water Co-adsorption on the Adsorption of Formaldehyde in Fe-HHTP-MOF Metal-Organic Materials.

Because of the existence of moisture in indoor air, it is still a serious challenge to capture formaldehyde indoors with the metal-organic material Fe-HHTP-MOF. To explore the relationship between the structure and performance of Fe-HHTP-MOF in dry and humid air, molecular dynamics simulation was used to study the adsorption amount of Fe-HHTP-MOF for formaldehyde and water under different temperatures and adsorption pressures, as well as the adsorption amount of Fe-HHTP-MOF for formaldehyde in the presence of both water and formaldehyde, and the differences in adsorption of formaldehyde and water by Fe-HHTP-MOF were compared and analyzed when water coexisted. The results show that under single-component isothermal adsorption, the hydrogen bond energy formed by Fe-HHTP-MOF adsorbing HO molecules is much greater than the van der Waals energy formed by adsorbing HCHO molecules.

The role of blended learning in improving medical students' academic performance: evidence from Pakistan.

Objective: The study examines the role of blended learning in improving medical students' academic performance through self-regulatory learning and technological competence and identifies the moderating role of perceived institutional support in the relationships between self-regulatory learning, perceived teacher credibility, technological competencies, and academic performance.

Methods: The study was based on behavioral learning theory as a theoretical framework, and an adapted questionnaire was used to collect the data. In total, 275 medical students participated in the study, and the data was analyzed using structural equation modeling techniques with SmartPLS.

Innovation or acquisition? Emissions mitigation strategies and the role of renewable technologies.

One of the actions taken to mitigate the climate change is research, development and demonstration (RD&D) investments in renewable energy (RE) technology. In addition to domestic RD&D spending, the import of foreign technologies, as a main channel of technology transfer, is another option to obtain higher share of renewable energies in order to achieve climate objectives. In this study, a panel dataset of 28 OECD member countries from 2011 to 2020 is analyzed, using the OLS, fixed-effects, and two-step system GMM methods, to assess the impacts of public spending on renewable energy RD&D (RERD) and the import of renewable energy technologies on the energy-related CO2 emissions.

Competition increases the magnitude of dishonest reporting even when controlling for reward uncertainty.

Does competition increase cheating? This question has been investigated by both psychologists and economists in the past and received conflicting answers. Notably, prior experimental work compared how people behaved under competitive and non-competitive tasks that were associated with different levels of uncertainty about the reward that people would receive. We aim to experimentally disentangle the effect of competition from the effects of uncertain rewards.

Optimization of a two-stage emergency logistics system considering public psychological risk perception under earthquake disaster.

To enhance the level of emergency supplies deployment during earthquake disaster, this study focuses on emergency logistics in China. An integrated two-stage optimization framework is adopted to incorporate demand and time satisfaction indicators into the supply allocation and route optimization models, respectively. Firstly, historical data and seismic monitoring information are used to estimate the number of people affected and to forecast the need for emergency supplies; Secondly, the concept of psychological risk perception and the degree of urgency of requirements are introduced.

Spatial association network structure of agricultural carbon emission efficiency in Chinese cities and its driving factors.

In light of the Chinese government's dual carbon goals, achieving cleaner production activities has become a central focus, with regional environmental collaborative governance, including the management of agricultural carbon reduction, emerging as a mainstream approach. This study examines 268 prefecture-level cities in China, measuring the carbon emission efficiency of city agriculture from 2001 to 2022. By integrating social network analysis and a modified gravity model, the study reveals the characteristics of the spatial association network of city agricultural carbon emission efficiency in China.

Research on truck-drone collaborative route planning for rural logistics delivery services.

Supplemental Intervention for Alcohol Use Disorder Treatment Patients With a Co-Occurring Anxiety Disorder: Technical Development and Functional Testing of an Autonomous Digital Program.

Background: Anxiety disorders are common in alcohol use disorder (AUD) treatment patients. Such co-occurring conditions ("comorbidity") have negative prognostic implications for AUD treatment outcomes, yet they commonly go unaddressed in standard AUD care. Over a decade ago, we developed and validated a cognitive behavioral therapy intervention to supplement standard AUD care that, when delivered by trained therapists, improves outcomes in comorbid patients.
