Fungal diversity and metabolomic profiles in GM and isogenic non-GM maize cultivars from Brazil.

There is little knowledge of the microbial diversity, mycotoxins and associated secondary metabolites in GM maize and isogenic non-GM cultivars (cvs). This study has quantified the microbial populations and dominant fungal genera in 6 cvs of each type representative of herbicide, pesticide or stacked resistance to both. The predominant mycotoxins and targeted metabolomics profiles were also compared between the two sets of cvs.

Illness perceptions of Turkish Cypriot patients receiving haemodialysis: A qualitative study.

Background: Illness perceptions refer to cognitive appraisals that help patients understand and make sense of their condition. Although their importance in health behaviour and outcomes has been evidenced, less is known about cultural influences on mental representations of kidney failure amongst patients receiving haemodialysis in different settings.

The physiological roles of the NRF2-related transcription factor NRF3 (NFE2L3) have remained unknown for decades. The remarkable development of human cancer genome databases has led to strong suggestions that NRF3 has functional significance in cancer; specifically, high mRNA levels are induced in many cancer types, such as colorectal cancer and pancreatic adenocarcinoma, and are associated with poor prognosis. On the basis of this information, the involvement of NRF3 in tumorigenesis and cancer malignancy has been recently proposed.

Urinary biomarkers in bladder cancer: A review of the current landscape and future directions.

Aim: This narrative review aims to describe established and emerging urinary biomarkers in the diagnosis and surveillance of non-muscle invasive bladder cancer. It provides a comprehensive account of classical, FDA-approved protein biomarkers and discusses their limitations. Further, we discuss the role that epigenetic, genetic, and exosomal markers can play to enhance sensitivity and specificity of the available tests.

A Machine Learning Approach for the Automated Interpretation of Plasma Amino Acid Profiles.

Background: Plasma amino acid (PAA) profiles are used in routine clinical practice for the diagnosis and monitoring of inherited disorders of amino acid metabolism, organic acidemias, and urea cycle defects. Interpretation of PAA profiles is complex and requires substantial training and expertise to perform.
