This work aims to develop and optimize blended polylactide--glycolide (PLGA) and poly(ε-caprolactone, PCL) loaded with oil (BO) to improve BO's physicochemical properties and anti-breast cancer effects enhancing apoptosis. In this context, BO was extracted from oleo gum resins (BO) hydrodistillation and chemically characterized by evaluating its essential oil's composition using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. In situ gelling formulations are drug delivery systems which typically exist in a liquid form at room temperature and change into gel state after application to the body in response to various stimuli such as changes in temperature, pH and ionic composition. Their biomedical application can further be improved by incorporating drug nanoparticles into in situ gelling systems in order to prolong drug release, reduce dosing frequency and improve therapeutic outcomes of patients, developing highly functional but challenging dosage forms. The composition of in situ gelling formulations influence factors relating to performance such as their syringeability, rheology, drug release profile and drug bioavailability at target sites, amongst other factors.

Clk1 kinase is a key modulator of the pre-mRNA alternative splicing machinery which has been proposed as a promising target for treatment of various tumour types, Duchenne's muscular dystrophy and viral infections such as HIV-1 and influenza. Most reported Clk1 inhibitors showed significant co-inhibition of Clk2 and Clk4 in particular, which limits their usefulness for deciphering the individual roles of the Clk1 isoform in physiology and disease. Herein, we present a new 5-methoxybenzothiophene scaffold, enabling for the first time selective inhibition of Clk1 even among the isoenzymes.

The West Africa Health Organization launched the West Africa Medicines Regulatory Harmonization Project (WA-MRH) in 2017 with the overarching objective to improve the availability of high-quality, safe and effective medicines and vaccines by the 15 countries in the Economic Community of West African States region. Although this project has made significant progress towards the realisation of its goals, challenges still remain.
