Article Synopsis
  • * Researchers measured β-diversity to analyze species composition changes and found that a significant portion of newly discovered species were epiphytic.
  • * The findings suggest that using multiple sampling methods is essential to capture all species, with an estimation of 185 bryophytes still to be discovered, and emphasizes the importance of considering species turnover when assessing local biodiversity inventories.

Natural killer/T-cell lymphoma (NKTL) is an uncommon malignancy with poor prognosis and limited therapeutic options. Activating mutations of signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) are frequently found in patients with NKTL, suggesting that targeted inhibition of STAT3 is a potential therapeutic option for this disease. Here, we have developed a small molecule drug WB737 as a novel and potent STAT3 inhibitor that directly binds to the STAT3-Src homology 2 domain with high affinity.

Gene- and cell-based therapies are the next frontiers in the field of medicine. Both are transformative and innovative therapies; however, a lack of safety data limits the translation of such promising technologies to the clinic. Improving the safety and promoting the clinical translation of these therapies can be achieved by tightly regulating the release and delivery of therapeutic outputs.

Regulation of the apoptotic pathway plays a critical role in inducing tumor cell death and circumventing drug resistance. Survivin protein is the strongest inhibitor of apoptosis found so far. It is highly expressed in several cancers and is a promising target for cancer therapy.

Understanding the mechanisms of how urbanization influences the evolution of native species is vital for urban wildlife ecology and conservation in the Anthropocene. With thousands of years of agriculture-dominated historical urbanization followed by 40 years of intensive and rapid urbanization, Shanghai provides an ideal environment to study how the two-stage urbanization process influences the evolution of indigenous wildlife, especially of anuran species. Therefore, in this study, we used mitochondrial gene, microsatellite (SSR), and single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) data to evaluate the demographic history and genetic structure of the eastern golden frog (), by sampling 407 individuals from 15 local populations across Shanghai, China.

The cricket is widely distributed in East Asia and colonized the United States of America (the USA) in 1959. It has two life cycles: egg and nymph diapause. We aimed to investigate the biogeographic boundary between them and determine when and why diverged.

Importance: Morbidity and mortality of children are important indicators of the performance of the public health system in any country. In China, the children's disease spectrum has gradually changed in recent years. However, the gender- and age-specific disease spectrum for hospitalized children under 15 years old is still unclear.

Derepression of transcription factors is the key mechanism for triggering plant jasmonate (JA) responses. Unlike regulating certain physiological functions for the majority of transcription factors in JA signaling, MYC2 and EIN3 control more diverse aspects. MYC2 predominantly participates in wounding response, metabolism, and root growth inhibition, while EIN3 (and its closest homolog EIL1) regulates defense gene expression and root hair development.
