How our brain integrates single words into larger linguistic units is a central focus in neurolinguistic studies. Previous studies mainly explored this topic at the semantic or syntactic level, with few looking at how cortical activities track word sequences with different levels of semantic correlations. In addition, prior research did not tease apart the semantic factors from the syntactic ones in the word sequences.

Objective: Rapid on-site evaluation (ROSE) of respiratory cytology specimens is a critical technique for accurate and timely diagnosis of lung cancer. However, in China, limited familiarity with the Diff-Quik staining method and a shortage of trained cytopathologists hamper utilization of ROSE. Therefore, developing an improved deep learning model to assist clinicians in promptly and accurately evaluating Diff-Quik stained cytology samples during ROSE has important clinical value.

Objective: The 2019 Bosniak classification has improved the precise and detailed quantitative evaluation criteria, making the diagnosis of cystic renal masses (CRMs) more accurate and objective. This study addresses the clinical value of quantitative analysis and aims to investigate the feasibility of combining contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) with quantitative analysis for diagnosing Bosniak ≥ II CRMs.
Methods: We retrospectively obtained 58 CRMs with confirmed pathology, which underwent CEUS and Contrast-enhanced computer tomography (CECT) evaluations according to Bosniak classification between January 2013 and August 2024.

This article examines Harold Pinter's 1959 radio play A Slight Ache through the lens of aging. It argues that Pinter utilizes sound-based techniques to heighten the introspective crisis of aging experienced by the protagonist Edward. The matchseller in the play serves as an auditory doppelgänger, representing Edward's unresolved conflict between his youthful self-image and his aging body, a struggle that drives the play's psychological depth.

Implicit causality (IC) is a phenomenon where verbs supply information about the potential cause of the behavior or state to one of the antecedents (e.g., "Mary praised David because…" will continue about David, not Mary).

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are persistent environmental pollutants that have been used for various purposes. Although PFAS can pollute the environment in a variety of areas related to the use, storage, and disposal of their products, there are insufficient data on the extent of PFAS pollution outside industrialized countries with their manufacturing facilities. Most of the analyses depend on high-cost liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry.

Land use change is crucial to addressing the existential threats of climate change and biodiversity loss while enhancing food security [M. Zurek , , 1416-1421 (2022)]. The interconnected and spatially varying nature of the impacts of land use change means that these challenges must be addressed simultaneously [H.

Objective: This study assesses the impact of the age at which individuals first begin working on the odds of developing mental health disorders among older adults in Ecuador.
Methods: Data from the 2009 Survey of Health, Well-being, and Aging (SABE) encompassing 3093 elderly participants from mainland Ecuador were analyzed. We employed binary logistic regression to explore the association between the age at which individuals started working and their subsequent mental health status.

Death is often considered the end of the story, and indeed the end of politics. The papers in this special issue demonstrate however that this is far from the case. They probe the transformations and transitions of the dead across varying cultural and social contexts, and time periods, and reckon with how human remains are repurposed, mobilized, represented, and integrated into larger narratives, including evidentiary, memorial, political, and emotional.

This study makes a significant contribution to China's ambitious goals of achieving carbon dioxide (CO) neutrality and transitioning to green economic growth (GEG), and integrating the theoretical framework of the impact, population, affluence, and technology (IPAT) theory, with real-world application to reduce CO and promote GEG for sustainable development. Furthermore, the study examines the ongoing theoretical debate on whether an inverted U-shaped environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) exists between technological innovations (TI) in environment-related fields and CO emissions in China, using data from 1990 to 2020 and employing the threshold instrumental variable two-stage least-squares (Th-IV2SLS) model. The findings indicate that all the variables representing education contribute to reducing CO emissions.

Interactions between International Organisations (IOs) within a regime complex often manifest themselves through competition and cooperation. Current research has examined the factors that promote inter-organisational competition and cooperation, yet the precise timing of when such competition or cooperation commences remains unclear. This paper focuses on two pivotal IOs in global health governance, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Bank, to explore the timing and onset of competition and cooperation within a regime complex, as well as the driving factors in the evolution of their inter-organisational relationships.

As ecological globalization intensifies, rural waste recycling and management has become a global concern. China's proactive efforts are significant for revitalizing domestic rural ecosystems, offering valuable insights into global environmental governance. The rampant dumping and informal processing of hazardous waste in rural China pose severe threats to local ecological balance and public safety.

Importance: Governments worldwide have become increasingly cognizant of the spread of genetic discrimination (negative treatment or harm on the basis of actual or presumed genetic characteristics). Despite efforts by a number of governments to establish regulations addressing this phenomenon, public concern about genetic discrimination persists.
Objective: To identify key elements of an optimal genetic nondiscrimination policy and inform policymakers as they seek to allay genetic nondiscrimination and related public anxieties.

A green building (GB) is a design idea that integrates environmentally conscious technology and sustainable procedures throughout the building's life cycle. However, because different green requirements and performances are integrated into the building design, the GB design procedure typically takes longer than conventional structures. Machine learning (ML) and other advanced artificial intelligence (AI), such as DL techniques, are frequently utilized to assist designers in completing their work more quickly and precisely.

To investigate the reliability of L2 listening tests and explore potential factors affecting the reliability, a reliability generalization (RG) meta-analysis was conducted in the present study. A total number of 122 alpha coefficients of L2 listening tests from 92 published articles were collected and submitted to a linear mixed effects RG analysis. The papers were coded based on a coding scheme consisting of 16 variables classified into three categories: study features, test features, and statistical results.

The visual perception system of humans is susceptible to cognitive influence, which implies the existence of cognitive perception. However, the specifical trigger for cognitive penetration is still a matter of controversy. The current study proposed that the cognitive processing priority over perceptual processing might be critical for inducing cognitive penetration.

Green building (GB) techniques are essential for reducing energy waste in the construction sector, which accounts for almost 40% of global energy consumption. Despite their importance, challenges such as occupant behavior and energy management gaps often result in GBs consuming up to 2.5 times more energy than intended.
