Article Synopsis
  • The study examines how the perfectionistic environment in sports teams affects the performance of elite female basketball players, using the Perfectionistic Climate on Athletic Performance model (PCPM) as a framework.
  • By analyzing data from 125 players in a major tournament, the research reveals that a perfectionistic climate can have both positive and negative effects on athletic performance, depending on the type of stress and coping strategies involved.
  • The findings suggest that coaches should focus on helping athletes view perfectionistic pressure as a challenge and teach effective coping methods to improve performance and adaptability within the team.

Urban greening in Dhaka: Assessing rooftop agriculture suitability using GIS and MCDM techniques.

J Environ Manage

September 2024

Urban Environmental Science Lab (URBES), Graduate School of Advanced Science and Engineering, Hiroshima University, Japan. Electronic address:

Dhaka ranks among the world's most densely populated cities, with built-up areas expanding to accommodate the demands of a growing population. The rapid urbanization has reduced green space and exacerbated urban heat and pollution in the city. In the quest for a greener and healthier urban environment, rooftop agriculture has emerged as a promising solution, offering opportunities for the restoration of the environment and safe food production.

Forest fires pose significant environmental and socioeconomic threats, particularly in regions such as Central India, where forest ecosystems are vital for biodiversity and local livelihoods. Understanding forest fire dynamics and identifying fire risk zones are crucial for effective mitigation. The current study explores the spatiotemporal dynamics of forest fires in the Khandwa and North Betul forest divisions in the Central Indian region over 22 years using Mann-Kendall and Sen's slope tests on MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) fire point data.

Osteogenesis is tightly coupled with angiogenesis spatiotemporally. Previous studies have demonstrated that type H blood vessel formed by endothelial cells with high expression of CD31 and Emcn (CD31 Emcn ECs) play a crucial role in bone regeneration. The mechanism of the molecular communication around CD31 Emcn ECs and bone mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) in the osteogenic microenvironment is unclear.

This study aimed to clarify the kinetics of the relative vertical momentum to the proximal joint of each free limb and their contribution to the increase in the centre of mass height at the take-off of hurdle clearance, as well as their relationship with take-off variables. Thirteen male hurdlers cleared one hurdle at the height of their centre of mass, and their attempts were filmed using six high-speed cameras. The hurdle height was 96.

Objective: This study aimed to identify electroencephalogram correlates of dream enactment behaviors (DEBs) and elucidate their cortical dynamics in patients with isolated/idiopathic rapid eye movement (REM) sleep behavior disorder (iRBD).

Methods: This cross-sectional study included 15 patients with iRBD. Two REM sleep periods in routine polysomnography were compared: the 60 s preceding the DEBs ("pre-representative behavior" [preR]), and the 60 s with the least submental electromyogram activity ("background" [BG]).

Sexual behavior in animals fulfills reproductive and social functions, extending beyond the traditional focus on reproduction. Same-sex sexual behavior, defined as genital contact or manipulation between individuals of the same sex, occurs in various primate species. In spider monkeys, grappling, a behavior involving prolonged mutual embraces, face greeting, tail intertwining, and genital manipulation, occurs primarily between males.

Monitoring vegetation dynamics in terrestrial national parks (TNPs) is crucial for ensuring sustainable environmental management and mitigating the potential negative impacts of short- and long-term disturbances understanding the effect of climate change within natural and protected areas. This study aims to monitor the vegetation dynamics of TNPs in Indonesia by first categorizing them into the regions of Sumatra, Jawa, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and Eastern Indonesia and then applying ready-to-use MODIS EVI time-series imageries (MOD13Q1) taken from 2000 to 2022 on the GEE cloud-computing platform. Specifically, this research investigates the greening and browning fraction trends using Sen's slope, considers seasonality by analyzing the maximum and minimum EVI values, and assesses anomalous years by comparing the annual time series and long-term median EVI value.

Chronic exposure to the hypobaric hypoxia environment of plateau could influence human cognitive behaviours which are supported by dynamic brain connectivity states. Until now, how functional connectivity (FC) of the brain network changes with altitudes is still unclear. In this article, we used EEG data of the Go/NoGo paradigm from Weinan (347 m) and Nyingchi (2950 m).

Previous studies have focused more on the facilitating effect of nature exposure on positive behavioural consequences. However, less attention has been paid to whether nature exposure can inhibit internalized problem behaviours, such as Internet addiction. Within the framework of the stimuli-organism-response theory, the present study examined the relationship between nature exposure and Internet addiction and investigated the mediating roles of anthropomorphism of nature and awe.

Background: The high prevalence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in coronary artery disease (CAD) has been acknowledged over the past decade, although the cause/s remain uncertain due to differences in diagnoses. COPD has also become a leading CAD comorbidity, although again little is known about its interactions. This meta-analysis explored COPD prevalence in the global CAD population, as well as the influence of COPD on CAD.

The downregulation of SCGN induced by lipotoxicity promotes NLRP3-mediated β-cell pyroptosis.

Cell Death Discov

July 2024

Department of Metabolism and Endocrinology, The First Affiliated Hospital, Hengyang Medical School, University of South China, Hengyang, 421001, Hunan, China.

Lipotoxicity is a well-established phenomenon that could exacerbate damage to islet β-cells and play a significant role in the development of type 2 diabetes, the underlying mechanisms of which, however, remain unclear. In lipotoxic conditions, secretagogin (SCGN), an EF-hand calcium-binding protein abundantly expressed in islets, is found to undergo downregulation. In light of this, we aim to explore the role of SCGN in lipotoxicity-induced β-cell injury.
