Background: Management of the adult airway is one of the most stressful and time-critical procedures in emergency medicine. In the Cowichan District Hospital, a rural hospital in British Columbia, Emergency Department (ED) staff were uncomfortable with acquiring the equipment needed for adult advanced airway management and the mean length of time to acquire the equipment was 319 s. The aim of this quality improvement (QI) project was to decrease the time to obtain the equipment needed for adult advanced airway management by nurses and physicians in the Cowichan District Hospital ED to less than 90 s by May 2023.

Background: To describe and compare the proportion of adult Canadians living with and without cardiovascular disease (CVD) meeting the physical activity (PA) and sedentary behaviour (SB) recommendations from the Canadian 24-Hour Movement Guidelines using accelerometer and self-reported measures.

Methods: Using adult (aged 18-79 years) accelerometer data (Actical worn during waking hours for 7 consecutive days) as well as chronic condition, socio-demographic, recreational screen time, and PA questions from three combined cycles of the Canadian Health Measures Survey, the PA, SB, and CVD risk factors of adults living with and without CVD were compared.

Results: A total of 7,035 Canadian adults who reported living with (n=363) and without (n=6,672) CVD were included.

This study explores the multifaceted challenges experienced by individuals with schizophrenia during extreme heat, highlighting the interplay between individual factors, social dynamics, and environmental influences. Despite making up only 1% of the Canadian population, individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia comprised 16% (n = 97) of the deaths during the 2021 heat dome in Western Canada. However, to date, there exists scant qualitative research that explore the direct experiences and the intricacies of intersecting factors faced by individuals with schizophrenia during extreme heat events.

Inertial measurement units (IMUs) have the potential to facilitate a large influx of spine movement and motor control data to help stratify low back pain (LBP) diagnosis and care; however, uncertainties related to validity and equipment/movement reliability are preventing widespread use and acceptance. This study evaluated the concurrent validity of Xsens DOT IMUs relative to gold-standard optical motion capture equipment, and compared within- and between-day reliability of both systems to track spine range of motion (ROM) and movement quality (MQ) by evaluating intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC), standard error of measurement (SEM), coefficient of variation (CV), and minimum detectable difference (MDD). ROM was evaluated during planar ROM movements, and local dynamic stability (LDS; λ), mean absolute relative phase (MARP) and deviation phase (DP) were estimated from repetitive trunk flexion at 3 speeds, in 15 healthy controls to assess MQ.
