Dengue virus, which belongs to the Flaviviridae family, can induce a range of symptoms from mild to severe, including dengue fever, dengue hemorrhagic fever, and dengue shock syndrome. While infectious cloning technology is a useful tool for understanding viral pathogenesis and symptoms, it exhibits limitations when constructing the entire Flavivirus genome. The instability and toxicity of the genome to bacteria make its full-length construction in bacterial vectors a time-consuming and laborious process.

Porcine Follicular Fluid-Derived Exosome: The Pivotal Material for Porcine Oocyte Maturation in Lipid Antioxidant Activity.

Int J Mol Sci

June 2023

Department of Biomedical Laboratory Science, School of Healthcare Science, Eulji University, Uijeongbu 34824, Republic of Korea.

Article Synopsis
  • Several studies have explored exosomes from porcine follicular fluid (FF) but have limited controlled experimental applications in embryology.
  • The absence of FF is a key issue that negatively affects oocyte maturation and embryo development during controlled experiments, which prompted the addition of FF-derived exosomes to the maturation medium.
  • Results showed that treatment with these exosomes improved lipid metabolism and cell survival in oocytes, suggesting that incorporating FF-derived exosomes can enhance data reliability in controlled embryological experiments.

Introduction: A major modifiable risk factor for behavioural difficulties is harsh and insensitive parenting, and it has been hypothesised that the biological mechanism by which parenting influences child behaviour is changes in the child's DNA methylation. We attempted to, in part, address the hypothesis that parenting is associated with child DNA methylation and, in turn, behaviour.

Methods: Primary caregivers of young children with behavioural difficulties (children aged 12-36 months) were randomised to receive a video-feedback Intervention to promote Positive Parenting and Sensitive Discipline (VIPP-SD) ( = 151), or usual care ( = 149).

A lesser 6-min walk distance (6MWD) and timed up-and-go (TUG) in old compared with young adults was previously linked to slowing of muscle contractile properties. The purpose of the present study was to determine whether any further reductions in 6MWD and TUG over a 5-year period in septuagenarians are associated with further slowing of muscle contractile properties. We measured muscle function by a countermovement jump, isometric maximal knee extensor strength (MVC) on a dynamometer and quadriceps muscle size by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in 17 older women (71.

Introduction: Incisional hernia (IH) is a common complication of abdominal surgery affecting between 10% and 20% of patients and is associated with significant morbidity along with cost to the National Health Service. With high recurrence rates following repair, focus must be on prevention of IH rather than cure. There is an increasing evidence that patients at high risk of developing IH may benefit from prophylactic mesh placement during their index operation.

Informed consent, when given by proxy, has limitations: chiefly, it must be made in the interest of the patient. Here we critique the standard approach to parental consent, as present in Canada and the UK. Parents are often asked for consent, but are not given the authority to refuse medically beneficial treatment in many situations.
