This study aimed to investigate the link between early onset of menstruation (menarche) and depression through a meta-analysis involving 22 studies with nearly 88,000 participants.
Results showed that participants with early menarche had significantly higher depression scores and incidence compared to those without early menarche, although there was moderate variability among the studies included.
The findings suggest that early menarche is correlated with increased depression risk, highlighting the need for supportive measures from parents, schools, and healthcare providers for girls who experience menarche earlier.
