Patient compliance and therapeutic precision of compression textiles (CTs) are frequently limited by the inaccurate pressure distributions along biological bodies in physical-based compression therapy. Therefore, the biomechanical influences of physiological tissue material characteristics of lower extremities on compression generations of CTs need to be explored systematically to improve pressure management efficacy. In this study, we developed three-dimensional (3D) homogenous finite element (FE) CT-leg systems to qualitatively compare the pressure diversities along lower limbs with different biomaterial tissue properties under each external compression level.

Continuous monitoring of lower extremity muscles is necessary, as the muscles support many human daily activities, such as maintaining balance, standing, walking, running, and jumping. However, conventional electromyography and physiological cross-sectional area methods inherently encounter obstacles when acquiring precise and real-time data pertaining to human bodies, with a notable lack of consideration for user comfort. Benefitting from the fast development of various fabric-based sensors, this paper addresses these current issues by designing an integrated smart compression stocking system, which includes compression garments, fabric-embedded capacitive pressure sensors, an edge control unit, a user mobile application, and cloud backend.

For the need of direct contact with the skin, electronic skins (E-skins) should not only fulfill electric functions, but also ensure comfort during wearing, including permeability, waterproofness, and easy removal. Herein, the study has developed a self-adhesive, detach-on-demand, breathable, and waterproof E-skin (PDSC) for motion sensing and wearable comfort by electrospinning styrene-isoprene block copolymer rubber with carbon black nanosheets as the sensing layer and liner copolymers of N, N-dimethylacrylamide, n-octadecyl acrylate and lauryl methacrylate as the adhesive layer. The high elasticity and microfiber network structure endow the PDSC with good sensitivity and high linearity for strain sensing.

The mechanics of capillary force in biological systems have critical roles in the formation of the intra- and inter-cellular structures, which may mediate the organization, morphogenesis, and homeostasis of biomolecular condensates. Current techniques may not allow direct and precise measurements of the capillary forces at the intra- and inter-cellular scales. By preserving liquid droplets at the liquid-liquid interface, we have discovered and studied ideal models, i.

A majority of flexible and wearable electronics require high operational voltage that is conventionally achieved by serial connection of battery unit cells using external wires. However, this inevitably decreases the energy density of the battery module and may cause additional safety hazards. Herein, a bipolar textile composite electrode (BTCE) that enables internal tandem-stacking configuration to yield high-voltage (6 to 12 V class) solid-state lithium metal batteries (SSLMBs) is reported.

The Helicobacter pylori infection in the stomach is the key reason for gastric mucosal bleeding. Eliminating gastric Helicobacter pylori by oral treatment remains difficult due to the presence of the gastric mucosal layer, which acts as a physical barrier to drugs via oral administration. In this study, a magnetic-navigable microneedle drug delivery platform (MNsD) for oral administration, featuring differential dual-mode drug release rate, was designed to fulfil rapid gastric hemostasis and overcome the gastric barriers for long-lasting Helicobacter pylori inhibition in stomach.

Molecular motor amphiphiles have already been widely attempted for dynamic nanosystems across multiple length-scale for developments of small functional materials, including controlling macroscopic foam properties, amplifying motion as artificial molecular muscles, and serving as extracellular matrix mimicking cell scaffolds. However, limiting examples of bola-type molecular motor amphiphiles are considered for constructing macroscopic biomaterials. Herein, this work presents the designed two second generation molecular motor amphiphiles, motor bola-amphiphiles (MBAs).
