Neuroblastoma (NB) is the most common extracranial pediatric solid tumor originating from the abnormal development of cells of the sympathoadrenal lineage of the neural crest. Targeting GD2 ganglioside (GD2), a glycolipid expressed on neuroblastoma cells, with GD2 ganglioside-recognizing antibodies affects several pivotal signaling routes that drive or influence the malignant phenotype of the cells. Previously performed gene expression profiling helped us to identify the (pleckstrin homology-like domain family A member 1) gene as the most upregulated gene in the IMR-32 human neuroblastoma cells treated with the mouse 14G2a monoclonal antibody.

The presented research concerns the use of nickel cobaltite nanoparticles (NiCoO NPs) for the heterogeneous activation of peracetic acid and application of NiCoO-PAA system for degradation 10 organic micropollutants from the group of bisphenols. The bisphenols removal (initial concentration 1 μM) process was optimized by selecting the appropriate process conditions. The optimal amount of catalyst (115 mg/L), peracetic acid (PAA) concentration (7 mM) and pH (7) were determined using response surface analysis in the Design of Experiment.

In this work, we investigated the oxidative stress-related biochemical alterations in red blood cells (RBCs) and their membranes with the use of spectroscopic techniques. We aimed to show their great advantage for the in situ detection of lipid classes and secondary structures of proteins without the need for their extraction in the cellular environment. The exposition of the cells to peroxides, t-butyl hydroperoxide (tBOOH) or hydrogen peroxide (HO) led to different degradation processes encompassing the changes in the composition of membranes and structural modifications of hemoglobin (Hb).

It was reported previously that in adult males disruption of both androgen and Notch signaling impairs spermatid development and germ cell survival in rodent seminiferous epithelium. To explain the molecular mechanisms of these effects, we focused on the interaction between Notch signaling and androgen receptor (AR) in Sertoli cells and investigate its role in the control of proteins involved in apical ectoplasmic specializations, actin remodeling during spermiogenesis, and induction of germ cell apoptosis. First, it was revealed that in rat testicular explants ex vivo both testosterone and Notch signaling modulate AR expression and cooperate in the regulation of spermiogenesis-related genes (Nectin2, Afdn, Arp2, Eps8) and apoptosis-related genes (Fasl, Fas, Bax, Bcl2).

A simple and efficient method for the synthesis of biodegradable, highly branched polycaprolactone (PCL) is presented. The solvent-free (bulk) reaction was carried out via ring opening polymerization (ROP), catalyzed by tin octanoate Sn(Oct), and it employed hyperbranched polyamide (HPPA) as a macro-initiator. The core-shell structure of the obtained products (PCL-HPPA), with the hyperbranched HPPA core and linear PCL chains as shell, was in the focus of the product characterization.

Amyloid fibrils are supramolecular systems showing distinct chirality at different levels of their complex multilayered architectures. Due to the regular long-range chiral organization, amyloid fibrils exhibit the most intense Vibrational Optical Activity (VOA) signal observed up to now, making VOA techniques: Vibrational Circular Dichroism (VCD) and Raman Optical Activity (ROA) very promising tools to explore their structures, handedness and intricate polymorphism. This concept article reviews up-to-date experimental studies on VOA applications to investigate amyloid fibrils highlighting its future potential in analyzing of these unique supramolecular systems, in particular in the context of biomedicine and nanotechnology.

This study outlines the fabrication process of an electrochemical platform utilizing glassy carbon electrode (GCE) modified with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and palladium nanoparticles (PdNPs). The MWCNTs were applied on the GCE surface using the drop-casting method and PdNPs were produced electrochemically by a potentiostatic method employing various programmed charges from an ammonium tetrachloropalladate(II) solution. The resulting GCEs modified with MWCNTs and PdNPs underwent comprehensive characterization for topographical and morphological attributes, utilizing atomic force microscopy and scanning electron microscopy along with energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometry.
