Background: In the first part of our study on possible contribution of dispersion forces in liquid-phase enantioseparations, the enantioseparation of the axially chiral 3,3'-dibromo-5,5'-bis-ferrocenylethynyl-4,4'-bipyridine with an amylose tris(3,5-dimethylphenylcarbamate)-based chiral column appeared reasonably consistent with a picture of the enantioselective recognition based on the interplay between hydrogen bond (HB), π-π stacking and dispersion interactions.
Results: In the second part of this study, we evaluated the impact of analyte and chiral stationary phase (CSP) structure, mobile phase and temperature on the enantioseparations of planar chiral 1-(iodoethynyl)-3-arylferrocenes (3-aryl = phenyl, 2-naphthyl, 4-methylphenyl, 4-t-butylphenyl) with polysaccharide-based chiral columns. The main aim of the present study was to understand the molecular bases of the high affinity observed for the second eluted (R)-enantiomer of some of these analytes toward amylose phenylcarbamate-based selectors when methanol-containing mixtures were used as mobile phases.

A computational study was performed to unravel mechanisms underlying capillary electrophoresis enantioseparations of daclatasvir and its (R,R,R,R)-enantiomer with native and methylated β-cyclodextrins (β-CDs) as chiral selectors. Considering the enantioseparation results as benchmark, the structures of β-CD and seven methylated β-CDs were optimized by quantum mechanics, and their topography and computed molecular properties were compared. Furthermore, the electron charge density distribution of the macrocycles was also evaluated by calculating the molecular electrostatic potential of pivotal regions of native and methylated β-CDs.

A 2D cyanido-bridged architecture Zn-[W(CN)] is smoothly pillared by ,'-di-(4-pyridyl)-1,4,5,8-naphthalenetetracarboxydiimide (4DPNDI) into 3D hybrid porous coordination polymer (PCP) {ZnII3(DMA)[W(CN)](4DPNDI)·8DMA}. A new two-step method for developing a nanocomposite of polypropylene (PP) decorated with photocatalytically active TiO nanoparticles (nTiO) is proposed. This method involves the low-temperature plasma functionalization of polypropylene followed by the ultrasound-assisted anchoring of nTiO. The design of high-performance optical materials can be realized using coordination polymers (CPs) often supported by non-covalent interactions, such as metallophilicity. The challenge is to control two or more optical effects, , non-linear optics (NLO) and photoluminescence (PL). We present a new strategy for the combination of the NLO effect of second-harmonic generation (SHG) and the visible PL achieved by linking dicyanidoaurate(i) ions, which form luminescent metallophilic stacks, with cadmium(ii) complexes bearing chiral amine ligands, used to break the crystal's symmetry.

Green fluorescent protein (GFP) has opened vast new avenues in studies of live cells and is generally perceived as a benign, nontoxic and harmless fluorescent tag. We demonstrat that excited GFP is capable of inducing substantial DNA damage in cells expressing fusion proteins. The intimate mechanism of NO decomposition on bare and redox-tuned CoO nanocubes (achieved by single (Li or K) and double (Li and K) doping) was elucidated. The catalysts synthesized by the hydrothermal method were characterized by X-ray electron absorption fine structure measurements, X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and Kelvin Probe techniques. TPSR and steady-state isothermal catalytic tests reveal that the NO turnover frequencies are critically sensitive to the work function of the catalysts, adjusted purposely by doping.

In the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease, the overexpression of glycogen synthase kinase-3β (GSK-3β) stands out due to its multifaced nature, as it contributes to the promotion of amyloid β and tau protein accumulation, as well as neuroinflammatory processes. Therefore, in the present study, we have designed, synthesized, and evaluated a new series of GSK-3β inhibitors based on the -(pyridin-2-yl)cyclopropanecarboxamide scaffold. Benzotriazoles (BTRs) and bisphenols (BPs), categorized as contaminants of emerging concern (CECs), pose significant risks to human health and ecosystems due to their endocrine-disrupting properties and environmental persistence. This study investigates the occurrence and behavior of nine BTRs and ten BPs in wastewater generated in a large-scale meat processing plant, evaluating the effectiveness of a modern mechanical-biological industrial on-site treatment plant in removing these contaminants, and based on the concentration levels from eleven sampling points at different stages of the treatment process. Cardiomyocytes (CMs) derived from human-induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) are considered a promising platform for multiple applications, including disease modeling, regenerative medicine, screening of drug toxicity and investigation of cardiomyogenesis. The asymmetric [3+2] cycloaddition of azomethine ylides generated from the corresponding imino ester-to--β-nitrostyrene catalysis by chiral aziridine-containing phosphines and phosphine oxides is described. Of the sixteen stereoisomers that could be formed as a result of the title reaction, three were formed, two of which were obtained in an enantiomerically enriched or pure form, and one in a racemic form.
