In order to ensure national grain and oil security, it is imperative to expand the soybean planting area in the Xinjiang region. However, the scarcity of water resources in southern Xinjiang, the relatively backward soybean planting technology, and the lack of a supporting irrigation system have negatively impacted soybean planting and yield. In 2022 and 2023, we conducted an experiment which included three irrigation amounts of 27 mm, 36 mm, and 45 mm and analyzed the changes in dry mass and yield.

Limited scientific evidence exists on phosphorus immobilization under autogenetic electrochemical reactions in composting systems. This study exploited a composting procedure using microbial fuel cell (MFC) to ascertain phosphorus redistribution during composting process. Compared to the control without MFC equipment, MFC-assisted treatment yielded a 13 % decrease in phosphorus availability due to the transformation of exchangeable fraction (Ex-P) to aluminum-bound (Al-P) and calcium-bound (Ca-P) fractions.

Pesticides have been frequently detected in global freshwater ecosystems, but attempts to document changes in population dynamics of organisms upon exposure to pesticides, establish a causal relationship between exposure and population effects, and identify the key toxic events within individuals under natural field conditions remain rare. Here, we used a field survey, a reciprocal cross-transplant experiment, and a laboratory toxicity experiment to build a compelling case that exposure to the insecticide chlorpyrifos was responsible for differences in snail () densities in eastern (ELL) and western basins of Liangzi Lake in China. Our field survey and reciprocal cross-transplant experiment revealed significant differences in snail densities, juvenile percentage, survival, and relative telomere length (RTL) in the two basins.

A single-stage partial nitrification/anammox (PN/A) system with biocarriers was used to treat the permeate from an anaerobic membrane reactor (AnMBR) processing organic fraction of municipal solid wastes. The suitable Ca/P ratio and high pH in the AnMBR permeate facilitated hydroxyapatite (HAP) formation, enhancing the biofilm attachment and the settleability of suspended sludge. This maintained sufficient biomass and a stable microbial structure after flushing to mitigate the free nitrous acid inhibition.

This study sheds light on the contamination of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in Tangxun Lake sediments, an urban lake reflecting environmental changes in Central China. By analyzing sediment cores from both the inner and outer areas of the lake, we determined the historical trends and sources of PAHs over the past century. The results reveal a significant increase in PAHs concentrations, particularly since the 1980s, coinciding with China's rapid urbanization and industrialization.

Polypropylene microplastics (PP-MPs), an emerging pollutant, adversely affect the ability of aquatic plants to restore water bodies, thereby compromising the functionality and integrity of wetland ecosystems. This study examines the effects of microplastic stress on the nitrogen and phosphorus removal capacities of Acorus calamus and Iris tectorum, as well as on functional microorganisms within the aquatic system. Subducting oceanic plates carry large amounts of carbon into the Earth's interior. The subducted carbon is mobilized by fluid and encounters ultramafic rocks in the mantle wedge, resulting in changes to the mineral assemblage and mechanical properties of the mantle.
