Defects at the top and bottom interfaces of three-dimensional (3D) perovskite photoabsorbers diminish the performance and operational stability of perovskite solar cells owing to charge recombination, ion migration and electric-field inhomogeneities. Here we demonstrate that long alkyl amine ligands can generate near-phase-pure 2D perovskites at the top and bottom 3D perovskite interfaces and effectively resolve these issues. At the rear-contact side, we find that the alkyl amine ligand strengthens the interactions with the substrate through acid-base reactions with the phosphonic acid group from the organic hole-transporting self-assembled monolayer molecule, thus regulating the 2D perovskite formation.

Electronic address:

The extensive examination of hexagonal molybdenum carbide (β-MoC) as a non-noble cocatalyst in the realm of photocatalytic H evolution is predominantly motivated by its exceptional capacity to adsorb H ions akin to Pt and its advantageous conductivity characteristics. However, the H evolution rate of photocatalysts modified with β-MoC is limited as a result of their comparatively low ability to release H through desorption. Therefore, a facile method was employed to synthesize carbon intercalated dual phase molybdenum carbide (MC@C) quantum dots (ca.

School of Energy and Chemical Engineering/Center for Dimension Controllable Organic Frameworks, Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST), 50 UNIST, Ulsan, 44919, South Korea.

Ongoing research to develop advanced electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is needed to address demand for efficient energy conversion and carbon-free energy sources. In the OER process, acidic electrolytes have higher proton concentration and faster response than alkaline ones, but their harsh strongly acidic environment requires catalysts with greater corrosion and oxidation resistance. At present, iridium oxide (IrO) with its strong stability and excellent catalytic performance is the catalyst of choice for the anode side of commercial PEM electrolysis cells.

Ruthenium oxide is currently considered as the promising alternative to Ir-based catalysts employed for proton exchange membrane water electrolyzers but still faces the bottlenecks of limited durability and slow kinetics. Herein, a 2D amorphous/crystalline heterophase ac-CrRuO substitutional solid solution with pervasive grain boundaries (GBs) is developed to accelerate the kinetics of acidic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and extend the long-term stability simultaneously. The ac-CrRuO shows a super stability with a slow degradation rate and a remarkable mass activity of 455 A g at 1.

Institute of Polymer Optoelectronic Materials and Devices, State Key Laboratory of Luminescent Materials and Devices, South China University of Technology, Guangzhou 510640, Guangdong, China.

Near-infrared organic photodetectors possess great application potential in night vision, optical communication, and image sensing, but their development is limited by the lack of narrow bandgap organic semiconductors. A-D-A'-D-A-type molecules, featuring multiple intramolecular charge transfer effects, offer a robust framework for achieving near-infrared light absorption. Herein, we report a novel A-D-A'-D-A-type narrow bandgap electron acceptor named DPPSe-4Cl, which incorporates a selenophene-flanked diketopyrrolopyrrole (Se-DPP) unit as its central A' component.

College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering/Institute of Polymers and Energy Chemistry (IPEC), Nanchang University, 999 Xuefu Avenue, Nanchang, 330031, China.

Single-component organic solar cells (SCOSCs) with covalently bonding donor and acceptor are becoming increasingly attractive because of their superior stability over traditional multicomponent blend organic solar cells (OSCs). Nevertheless, the efficiency of SCOSCs is far behind the state-of-the-art multicomponent OSCs. Herein, by combination of the advantages of three-component and single-component devices, this work reports an innovative three-in-one strategy to boost the performance of SCOSCs.

State Key Laboratory of Chemical Resource Engineering, Beijing Advanced Innovation Center for Soft Matter Science and Engineering, Beijing University of Chemical Technology, Beijing, 100029, China.

Polymer solar cells (PSCs) rely on a blend of small molecular acceptors (SMAs) with polymer donors, where thermodynamic relaxation of SMAs poses critical concerns on operational stability. To tackle this issue, tethered SMAs, wherein multiple SMA-subunits are connected to the aromatic-core via flexible chains, are proposed. This design aims to an elevated glass transition temperature (T) for a dynamical control.

It is highly challenging to reproducibly prepare semiconducting polymers with targeted molecular weight tailored for next-generation photovoltaic applications. Once such an easily accessible methodology is established, which can not only contribute to overcome the current limitation of the statistically determined nature of semiconducting polymers, but also facilitate rapid incorporation into the broad synthetic chemists' toolbox. Here, we describe a simple yet robust ultrasonication-assisted Stille polymerization for accessing semiconducting polymers with high-precision tailored molecular weights (from low to ultrahigh molecular weight ranges) while mitigating their interbatch variations.

Current transition alumina catalysts require the presence of significant amounts of toxic, environmentally deleterious dopants for their stabilization. Herein, we report a simple and novel strategy to engineer transition aluminas to withstand aging temperatures up to 1200 °C without inducing the transformation to low-surface-area α-AlO and without requiring dopants. By judiciously optimizing the abundance of dominant facets and the interparticle distance, we can control the temperature of the phase transformation from θ-AlO to α-AlO and the specific surface sites on the latter.

Although great efforts on the delicate construction of a built-in electric field (BIEF) to modify the electronic properties of active sites have been conducted, the substantial impact of BIEF coupled with electrode potential on the electrochemical reactions has not been clearly investigated. Herein, we designed an alkaline hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) catalyst composed of heterogeneous Ru-CoP urchin arrays on carbon cloth (Ru-CoP/CC) with a strong BIEF with the guidance of density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Impressively, despite its unsatisfactory activity at 10 mA cm (overpotential of 44 mV), Ru-CoP/CC exhibited better activity (357 mV) than the benchmark Pt/C catalyst (505 mV) at 1 A cm .

Pendant groups in acrylic adhesive polymers (Ads) have a profound influence on adhesive and cohesive properties and additionally on encapsulant application. However, a systematic investigation to assess the impact of the pendant groups' length and bulkiness is rare, and there is not even a single report on applying Ads as interfacial adhesion promotors and encapsulation materials simultaneously. Herein, we have developed a series of multifunctional methacrylic polymers, namely, R--Ads, with varying pendant length and bulkiness (R = methyl (C1), ethyl (C2), propyl (C3), butyl (C4), pentyl (C5), hexyl (C6), isobutyl (iC4), and 2-ethylhexyl (2EH)).

Phenyl-C-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) can be used as a passivation material in perovskite solar cells (PeSCs) in order to reduce the trap site of the perovskite. Here, we show that a thick PCBM layer can form a smoother surface on the SnO substrate, improving the grain size and reducing the microstrain of the perovskite. High-temperature annealing treatment of PCBM layer not only increases its solvent resistance to perovskite precursor or antisolvent, but also enhances its molecular alignment, resulting in improved conductivity as an electron transport layer.
