Aim: To evaluate the physicochemical properties of five root canal sealers and assess their effect on an ex vivo dental plaque-derived polymicrobial community.
Methodology: Dental plaque-derived microbial communities were exposed to the sealers (AH Plus [AHP], GuttaFlow Bioseal [GFB], Endoseal MTA [ESM], Bio-C sealer [BCS] and BioRoot RCS [BRR]) for 3, 6 and 18 h. The sealers' effect on the biofilm biomass and metabolic activity was quantified using crystal violet (CV) staining and MTT assay, respectively.

Objectives: This study is aimed at describing changes in salivary flow rate and ionic composition present in the saliva of chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients by assessing the pH, calcium, phosphate, and phosphorus concentrations and comparing them to healthy individuals, along with exploring the influence of hemodialysis on these parameters.
Methods: The bibliographical search was performed in nine databases to find all types of studies, including observational clinical studies, without restrictions regarding publication year or language. Two reviewers selected the studies, extracted the data, and assessed the risk of bias using JBI tools.

Background: Although there are previous systematic reviews about the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) impact among children and adolescents after orthodontics treatment, there is no definition for the magnitude of these impacts during the therapy.
Objective: To systematically analyse the literature on changes in the quality of life of children and adolescents during orthodontic treatment.
Limitations: Almost all the studies included in this review are non-randomized clinical trials, which are susceptible to several biases that affect the certainty of evidence obtained, especially by confounding factors and the lack of a control group.

Different types of brackets seem to influence the disruption of the oral microbial environment. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of self-ligating brackets on the gingival crevicular fluid levels of the putative periodontal pathogens Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans sorotype a (Aaa), Tannerella forsythia, Fusobacterium nucleatum, and Porphyromonas gingivalis. Sixty samples of crevicular fluid of twenty patients (11 boys and 9 girls) were analysed at baseline (T0) and after 30 (T1) and 60 (T2) days of bonding of the self-ligating (In-OvationR, Dentsply, GAC or SmartClip™, 3 M Unitek, Monrovia, CA, USA) and of one conventional bracket (Gemini™, 3 M Unitek, Monrovia, CA, USA) used with elastomeric ligatures.

Background: Among the methods currently available to provide fluoride in population levels, fluoridated water is the most successful for presenting high efficacy, safety and good cost-benefit. However, recent studies on external control have shown great variability of fluoride concentrations in the water from treatment stations in Brazilian cities, which must present concentration between 0.6 and 0.

Endodontic biomaterials have significantly improved dental treatment techniques in several aspects now that they can be used for vital pulp treatments, as temporary intracanal medication, in definitive fillings, in apical surgeries, and for regenerative procedures. Calcium silicate-based cement is a class of dental material that is used in endodontics in direct contact with the dental structures, connective tissue, and bone. Because the material interacts with biological tissues and stimulates biomineralization processes, its properties are of major importance.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the expression of BPIFA proteins in the saliva and salivary glands of hematopoietic cell transplant (HCT) patients.
Material And Methods: This longitudinal study included patients who had undergone autologous HCT (auto-HCT) and allogeneic HCT (allo-HCT), and unstimulated saliva was collected at three time points, with a fourth collection at oral chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGVHD) onset. BPIFA expression was analysed by Western blotting in saliva and immunostaining in the minor salivary glands of cGVHD patients.

Periodontal disease and osteoporosis are characterized by bone resorption, and researchers have shown an association between these two diseases through increasing loss of systemic bone mass and triggering alveolar bone loss. Green tea is a common and easily accessible beverage, and evidences show that flavonoid epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) could decrease bone loss in pathologies such as osteoporosis and periodontal disease. In order to verify its possible effects and apply them in the treatment and prevention of these diseases, this investigation aimed to evaluate the influence of green tea extract (GTE) on bone metabolism of ovariectomized rats after experimental periodontal disease (EPD) by histological, morphological and microtomographic parameters.

The study of palatal rugae is shown to be scientifically valid to human identification due to the unique number and style of the palatal ridges. Dentures provide an array of data and specifics that allow for the individualization of their wearers. This article describes the identification of edentulous, skeletonized remains through the analysis of the palatal rugae printed on the complete upper denture and subsequent comparison with the palatal rugae of an old complete denture of an unknown missing person.
