The purposes of this study were to 1) evaluate the effectiveness of different cleaning methods from a previously etched and silanized lithium disilicate glass ceramic (EMX) surface after contact with organic fluids (saliva or human blood) and 2) assess the effect of applying a new silane layer after the cleaning methods on the microshear bond strength (mSBS) of resin cement to EMX. EMX discs were etched with 5% hydrofluoric acid (HF) and properly silanized. Three control groups were created (n=10): control (without contamination), saliva positive, and human blood positive.

Objectives: (1) To chemically characterise Y-TZP surface via X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and evaluate the surface energy levels (SE) after non-thermal plasma (NTP). (2) To test the microtensile bond strength (MTBS) of Y-TZP bonded to cured composite disks, after a combination of different surface conditioning methods.
Methods: Twenty-four Y-TZP discs (13.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to quantitatively evaluate the effect of 10% carbamide peroxide on the microhardness of pit and fissure sealant materials.
Methods: Fluroshield, Vitroseal Alfa, and one unfilled (Clinpro) sealants were placed in Teflon matrices (4 mm in diameter by 2 mm in height) and polymerized for 40 seconds. A total of 20 specimens were prepared for each material, in which half were assigned as the control group (stored in artificial saliva and no bleaching treatment).

Department of Pediatric Dentistry and Oral Physiology, Piracicaba School of Dentistry/UNICAMP, Brazil.
Purpose: The goal of this study was to verify the prevalence of nutritive (breast-feeding and bottle-feeding) and non-nutritive (pacifier) sucking habits, the methods used to eliminate them, and success of these methods.
Methods: To collect the data, 502 questionnaires were distributed to parents of 0- to 6-year-old children.
Results: Bottle-feeding was used by 83% and pacifier by 63% of children.

To evaluate the effect of thermal and mechanical cycles on dentin bond strength to cervical margins of Class II restorations, 80 box-type Class II cavities were prepared on the surfaces of bovine incisors. The cavities were restored with Single Bond (3M-ESPE) and Z-250 composite (3M-ESPE) according to manufacturer's instructions. The incisors were divided into four groups: G1-Control, G2- Thermal cycling (2,000 cycles, 5 degrees C-55 degrees C), G3- Mechanical cycling (100,000 cycles; 50N) and G4- Thermal and mechanical cycling (2,000 cycles 5 degrees C-55 degrees C/100,000 cycles; 50N).

This study utilized spectrophotometry to evaluate in vitro superficial dye deposition on resin-modified glass ionomer, following different surface finishing and polishing treatments. Materials that were photocured adjacent to the mylar strip produced the surfaces with the lowest mean after superficial staining. A restorative technique without excesses resulted in a smoother surface and prolonged the life of the restoration.
