Globally, plastic pollution threatens human health, particularly affecting the hearts of offspring exposed to maternal environmental factors early in development. Few studies have specifically addressed sex-specific cardiac injury in offspring resulting from maternal exposure to polystyrene nanoplastics (PS-NPs). This study investigates the potential cardiac injury in offspring following maternal exposure to 1 mg/L PS-NPs.

Dissecting the role of cannabinoids in vascular health and disease.

Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta, Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary, Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Cannabis, often recognized as the most widely used illegal psychoactive substance globally, has seen a shift in its legal status in several countries and regions for both recreational and medicinal uses. This change has brought to light new evidence linking cannabis consumption to various vascular conditions. Specifically, there is an association between cannabis use and atherosclerosis, along with conditions such as arteritis, reversible vasospasm, and incidents of aortic aneurysm or dissection.

Objective: To investigate inflammation levels and microcirculatory function following the early application of proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin 9 (PCSK9) inhibitor after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients with non-ST segment elevation acute coronary syndrome (NSTE-ACS).

Methods: This is a retrospective study. Between December 2019 and December 2021, 120 patients with NSTE-ACS admitted to the People's Hospital of Henan University of Traditional Chinese Medicine for PCI were randomized via a web-based randomization system into a control group (60 cases) treated with atorvastatin or a PCSK9 inhibitor group (60 cases) treated with atorvastatin + evolocumab.

Objective: To reveal the efficacy and possible mechanism of electroacupuncture at Zusanli (ST36) on injured skeletal muscle induced by jumping load.

Methods: In the present study, female Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into four groups with 6 of each, including normal control group (NC), jumping-induced muscle injury model group (JI), JI with electroacupuncture stimulation treatment group (EA), and JI with non-electroacupuncture stimulation group (NEA). Transmission electron microscopy, transcriptome sequencing and analysis, prediction of protein interaction networks, real-time polymerase chain reaction verification, and Western blotting were performed on the gastrocnemius muscle of ipsilateral lower limbs.

Chemotherapy resistance remains a major obstacle in the treatment of esophageal cancer. Previous researches have shown that an increase in exosomal PD-L1 expression was positively associated with a more advanced clinical stage, a poorer prognosis as well as drug resistance in patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). To explore the role of exosomal PD-L1 in ESCC, we performed bioinformatics analysis as well as several in vitro/in vivo functional experiments in a parental sensitive cell line EC-9706 and its derivative, a paclitaxel-resistant subline EC-9706R, and found that the exosomal PD-L1 from EC-9706R was higher than that from EC-9706.

Gemcitabine is the first-line chemotherapy drug for cholangiocarcinoma (CCA), but acquired resistance has been frequently observed in CCA patients. To search for potential long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) involved in gemcitabine resistance, two gemcitabine resistant CCA cell lines were established and dysregulated lncRNAs were identified by lncRNA microarray. Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 665 (LINC00665) were found to rank the top 10 upregulated lncRNAs in our study, and high LINC00665 expression was closely associated with poor prognosis and chemoresistance of CCA patients.

Background: Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) is a malignant tumor in the world. LncRNA HOX transcript antisense intergenic RNA (HOTAIR) was identified as a crucial regulator in various cancers including CCA. This study aimed to unravel the functions of HOTAIR and its biological mechanism in CCA, hinting for the new therapeutic targets in CCA.

Objectives: To investigate the effect of Danggui-Shaoyao-San (DSS)-containing serum on the renal tubular Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition (EMT) of Diabetic Nephropathy (DN) in high glucose- induced HK-2 cells and its mechanism.

Methods: 20 rats were randomly divided into four groups: blank control group, DSS low dose group (DSS-L), DSS middle dose group (DSS-M), and DSS high dose group (DSS-H). DSS was administrated to the corresponding group (7g/kg/d, 14g/kg/d and 21g/kg/d) for 7 consecutive days, and the same volume of saline was given to the blank control group by gavage.
