Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common primary liver malignancy resulting in high mortality. HCC progression is associated with abnormal signal transduction that changes cell signaling pathways and ultimately leads to dysregulation of cell functions and uncontrolled cell proliferation. Present study was undertaken with the objective to identify differentially expressed proteins and quantify their transcript expression in the liver of HCC-bearing rats vis-à-vis controls and to decipher the network involving interaction of genes coding for the characterized proteins to an insight into mechanism of HCC tumorigenesis.

A series of spiroisoxazoline analogues of artemisinin was synthesized by employing 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition between various in situ generated nitrile oxides and artemisitene. All the synthesized compounds were tested for their anti-proliferative and anti-malarial activities. Among the compounds tested, compound 11a was found to be potent against the HCT-15 cancer cell line with IC  = 4.

Purpose: In vivo phenotyping of CYP isoforms involved in the metabolism of anti-HIV and antitubercular drugs is important to determine therapeutic dose levels in HIV/AIDS-TB coinfections. In this study, we used a cocktail of bupropion, losartan and dapsone for in vivo phenotyping of CYP2B6, CYP2C9 and N-acetyltransferase-2 (NAT2) in plasma. CYP2B6 is the main catalyst of anti-HIV efavirenz, while NAT2 is involved in antitubercular drug isoniazid metabolism.

Complex coacervation was noticed between in situ formed protein (a primarily hydrophobic Zein protein with pI = 6.2) nanoparticles (size 80-120 nm) and ds-DNA (a high charge density polyanion), in the ionic liquid (IL) solutions of 1-ethyl-3-methyl imidazolium chloride [C2mim][Cl], and 1-octyl-3-methyl imidazolium chloride [C8mim][Cl], in the studied ionic strength range of I = 10 to 6 × 10 M, which was extended to strong monovalent 1:1 electrolyte (NaCl) to explore the commonality between the organic and inorganic salt (ionic) environment on coacervation. The salt dependent coacervation profile was monitored from the measured turbidity of the interacting solution, and zeta potential, (ζ) and apparent hydrodynamic radius (R) of interpolymer complexes, which depicted the following three discernible interaction regimes common to all the salts: (i) Region-I: I = 0.
