The present study determined whether adding granulocyte macrophage colony stimulating factor (GM-CSF) during in vitro oocyte maturation (IVM) could improve oocyte developmental competence by examining embryo development and implantation and birth rates following embryo transfer in mice. In an initial dose response experiment, we demonstrated that the addition of 2 and 10 ng/mL of GM-CSF during IVM increased cumulus expansion (P<0.05) but did not affect fertilisation rate compared with the control group.

Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is a non-invasive brain stimulation tool with potential for managing neuromuscular fatigue, possibly due to alterations in corticospinal excitability. However, inconsistencies in intra- and inter- individual variability responsiveness to tDCS limit its clinical use. Emerging evidence suggests harnessing homeostatic metaplasticity induced via tDCS may reduce variability and boost its outcomes, yet little is known regarding its influence on neuromuscular fatigue in healthy adults.

Several studies show that gut microbiotas in patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) differ from those in a healthy population, suggesting that this alteration plays a role in NAFLD pathogenesis. We investigated whether prebiotic administration affects liver fat content and/or liver-related and metabolic parameters. The dwarfing allele Rht14 of durum wheat associates with greater stigma length, an important trait for hybrid breeding, whilst major dwarfing alleles Rht-B1b and Rht-D1b showed little to no effect. Although much understudied in wheat, the stigma is a crucial component for attaining grain set, the fundamental basis for yield, particularly in hybrid production systems where successful grain set relies on wind-driven pollen dispersal by the male parent and effective pollen capture by the female parent. Molecular Basis for Surface-Initiated Non-Thrombin-Generated Clot Formation Following Viral Infection.

In this paper, we propose a model that connects two standard inflammatory responses to viral infection, namely, elevation of fibrinogen and the lipid drop shower, to the initiation of non-thrombin-generated clot formation. In order to understand the molecular basis for the formation of non-thrombin-generated clots following viral infection, human epithelial and Madin-Darby Canine Kidney (MDCK, epithelial) cells were infected with H1N1, OC43, and adenovirus, and conditioned media was collected, which was later used to treat human umbilical vein endothelial cells and human lung microvascular endothelial cells. After direct infection or after exposure to conditioned media from infected cells, tissue surfaces of both epithelial and endothelial cells, exposed to 8 mg/mL fibrinogen, were observed to initiate fibrillogenesis in the absence of thrombin.
