The rational design and production of a novel series of engineered protein cages are presented, which have emerged as versatile and adaptable platforms with significant applications in biomedicine. These protein cages are assembled from multiple protein subunits, and precise control over their interactions is crucial for regulating assembly and disassembly, such as the on-demand release of encapsulated therapeutic agents. This approach employs a homo-undecameric, ring-shaped protein scaffold with strategically positioned metal binding sites.

Type II topoisomerase DNA gyrase transduces the energy of ATP hydrolysis into the negative supercoiling of DNA. The postulated catalytic mechanism involves stabilization of a chiral DNA loop followed by the passage of the T-segment through the temporarily cleaved G-segment resulting in sign inversion. The molecular basis for this is poorly understood as the chiral loop has never been directly observed.

: Radical cystectomy (RC) represents one of the most complex and morbid surgical procedures in the field of Urology. Extraperitoneal open RC has emerged as an alternative to the traditional transperitoneal approach for the treatment of muscle-invasive bladder cancer. Frailty is one of the most important risk factors for perioperative morbidity and mortality, and this category of patients can benefit the most from the extraperitoneal approach.

Psoriasis represents a chronic autoimmune skin condition defined by various clinical forms, including inverse, erythrodermic, pustular, guttate, plaque types. While current therapies, including topical treatments but also systemic through conventional synthetic drugs and biologics, have improved symptom management, no treatment completely cures the disease, and numerous options are linked to considerable adverse effects, including immunosuppression and carcinogenic risks. Therefore, there is growing interest in bioactive compounds from natural sources due to their potential to reduce inflammation and oxidative stress in psoriasis with fewer adverse effects.

Drug interactions are a significant and integral part of the concept of medication-related adverse events, whether referring to potential interactions or those currently observed in real-world conditions. The high global consumption of antibiotics and their pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic mechanisms make antibiotic-drug interactions a key element that requires continuous study due to their clinical relevance. In the present work, the current state of knowledge on antibiotic-drug interactions, which are less studied than other drug-drug interactions despite their frequent use in acute settings, has been consolidated and updated.

Inorganic nanoparticles can be assembled into superlattices with unique optical and magnetic properties arising from collective behavior. Protein cages can be utilized to guide this assembly by encapsulating nanoparticles and promoting their assembly into ordered structures. However, creating ordered multi-component structures with different protein cage types and sizes remains a challenge.

Background/aim: This study investigated the correlation between vitamin D levels and serological markers of liver diseases in two groups of patients: the control group (CG) and the study group (SG).
Materials And Methods: The study analyzed data on vitamin D levels categorized as insufficient, sufficient, and optimal, along with serological markers, such as alpha2-macroglobulin, haptoglobin, apolipoprotein A1, bilirubin total, gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), glucose, total cholesterol, and triglycerides.
Results: The results indicate significant differences in vitamin D levels between the two groups, particularly in SG, where vitamin D levels varied according to its status and correlated with serological markers.

Background: The oral microbiome-dependent nitrate (NO )-nitrite (NO )-nitric oxide (NO) pathway may help regulate blood pressure. NO -producing bacteria in subgingival plaque are reduced in relative abundance in patients with untreated periodontitis compared with periodontally healthy patients. In periodontitis patients, the NO -producing bacteria increase several months after periodontal treatment.

Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 1 (NFE2L1, also known as Nrf1) is a crucial member of the CNC-bZIP subfamily of transcription factors expressed ubiquitously throughout our body. Recent findings have revealed its association with various metabolic processes, encompassing glucose, lipid, and protein metabolism. In the realm of glucose metabolism, NFE2L1 exerts regulatory control by modulating pancreatic β cells and insulin production.

Purpose: Although brain metastasis (BM) from gastric cancer (GC) is relatively uncommon, its incidence has been increasing owing to advancements in treatment modalities. Unfortunately, patients diagnosed with BM from gastric cancer have poor life expectancy. Our study aims to establish a predictive model for brain metastasis in advanced gastric cancer patients, thus enabling the timely diagnosis of brain metastasis.

This study investigates the distribution of hyperhomocysteinemia and cardiovascular metabolic syndrome (SM) among participants, shedding light on their prevalence and co-occurrence within the study cohort. Through an analysis of demographic characteristics and health parameters, including age, gender, and body mass index (BMI), alongside nutritional data, correlations between these factors and health risks are explored. Results reveal a notable prevalence of hyperhomocysteinemia, with 45.

: The pancreas, ensconced within the abdominal cavity, requires a plethora of sophisticated imaging modalities for its comprehensive evaluation, with ultrasonography serving as a primary investigative technique. A myriad of pancreatic pathologies, encompassing pancreatic neoplasia and a spectrum of inflammatory diseases, are detectable through these imaging strategies. Nevertheless, the intricate anatomical confluence and the pancreas's deep-seated topography render the visualization and accurate diagnosis of its pathologies a formidable endeavor.

Deep burns sequelae involving the upper limb are challenging even for experienced surgeons, mainly because local reconstructive options and donor sites are often compromised. The use of free flaps for this type of reconstruction remains difficult due to the small recipient vessel diameter and tendency to vasospasm. Moreover, pediatric cases bring the challenge to another level.

The autophagy-lysosomal pathway (ALP) is a major cellular machinery involved in the clearance of aggregated proteins in Alzheimer disease (AD). However, ALP is dramatically impaired during AD pathogenesis via accumulation of toxic amyloid beta (Aβ) and phosphorylated-Tau (phospho-Tau) proteins in the brain. Therefore, activation of ALP may prevent the increased production of Aβ and phospho-Tau in AD.
