Impairments in somatosensory function are a common and often debilitating consequence of neurological injury, with few effective interventions. Plasticity of dorsal root ganglion (DRG) nociceptors in the peripheral nervous system requires new protein synthesis. This plasticity is believed to be responsible for the physiological changes seen in DRG nociceptors in animal models of chronic pain. This study investigated the time course of gene expression changes during the progression of persistent painful neuropathy caused by paclitaxel (PTX) in male and female mouse hindpaws and dorsal root ganglia (DRG). Bulk RNA-seq was used to examine these gene expression changes at 1, 16, and 31 days post-last PTX. At these time points, differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were predominantly related to the reduction or increase in epithelial, skin, bone, and muscle development and to angiogenesis, myelination, axonogenesis, and neurogenesis.

Somatosensory evoked potentials (SEPs) are used to assess the functional status of somatosensory pathways during surgical procedures and can help protect patients' neurological integrity intraoperatively. This is a position statement on intraoperative SEP monitoring from the American Society of Neurophysiological Monitoring (ASNM) and updates prior ASNM position statements on SEPs from the years 2005 and 2010. This position statement is endorsed by ASNM and serves as an educational service to the neurophysiological community on the recommended use of SEPs as a neurophysiological monitoring tool.

Prior studies have reported inconsistent results regarding the relationships between the integrity of the fornix and parahippocampal cingulum and both memory performance and longitudinal change in performance. In the present study, we examined associations in a sample of cognitively healthy older adults between free water-corrected fractional anisotropy (FA) metrics derived from the fornix and cingulum, baseline memory performance, and 3-year memory change. Neither fornix nor cingulum FA correlated with memory performance at baseline.

Background: Study of synaptic integrity using conventional electrophysiology is a gold standard for quantitative assessment of neurodegeneration. Fluorescence assisted single-synapse long-term potentiation (FASS-LTP) provides a high throughput method to assess the synaptic integrity of neurotransmission within and between different brain regions as a measure of pharmacological efficacy in translational models.

New Method: We adapted the existing method to our purpose by adding a step during the thawing of frozen samples, by an extra step of placing them on a rocker at room temperature for 30 minutes immediately following thawing with constant mixing on a shaker.

The present study investigated how instructions for paying attention to auditory feedback may affect speech error detection and sensorimotor control. Electroencephalography (EEG) and speech signals were recorded from 21 neurologically intact adult subjects while they produced the speech vowel sound /a/ and received randomized ±100 cents pitch-shift alterations in their real-time auditory feedback. Subjects were instructed to pay attention to their auditory feedback and press a button to indicate whether they detected a pitch-shift stimulus during trials.

Ephrin-B-EphB signaling can promote pain through ligand-receptor interactions between peripheral cells, like immune cells expressing ephrin-Bs, and EphB receptors expressed by DRG neurons. Previous studies have shown increased ephrin-B2 expression in peripheral tissues like synovium of rheumatoid and osteoarthritis patients, indicating the clinical significance of this signaling. The primary goal of this study was to understand how ephrin-B2 acts on mouse and human DRG neurons, which express EphB receptors, to promote pain and nociceptor plasticity.
