Background And Aim: The are sex differences in cardiometabolic risk factors in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) as well as the age at disease onset. However, the impact of these risk factors on the age at onset of T2DM is less known in the Ghanaian population. An understanding of the differential impact of cardiometabolic risk factors on the age at onset on T2DM may lead to sex-specific interventions in preventive and management strategies for T2DM.

To date, general-purpose object-detection methods have achieved a great deal. However, challenges such as degraded image quality, complex backgrounds, and the detection of marine organisms at different scales arise when identifying underwater organisms. To solve such problems and further improve the accuracy of relevant models, this study proposes a marine biological object-detection architecture based on an improved YOLOv5 framework.

The load-penetration depth (-) curves of different metallic coating materials can be determined by nanoindentation experiments, and it is a challenge to obtain stress-strain response and elastoplastic properties directly using - curves. These problems can be solved by means of finite element (FE) simulation along with reverse analyses and methods, which, however, typically occupy a lengthy time, in addition to the low generality of FE methodologies for different metallic materials. To eliminate the challenges that exist in conventional FE simulations, a long short-term memory (LSTM) neural network is proposed in this study and implemented to deep learn the time series of - curves, which is capable of mapping - curves to the corresponding stress-strain responses for elastoplastic materials.

Background: Unfavourable clot microstructure is associated with adverse outcomes in ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). We investigated the effect of comorbidities and anti-platelet treatment on clot microstructure in STEMI patients using fractal dimension (d), a novel biomarker of clot microstructure derived from the visco-elastic properties of whole blood.
Methods: Patients with STEMI (n = 187) were recruited sequentially receiving aspirin with Clopidogrel (n = 157) then Ticagrelor (n = 30).

Background: Anaemia in pregnancy is common in underdeveloped countries, and malaria remains the predominant cause of the condition in Ghana. Anti-erythropoietin (anti-EPO) antibody production may be implicated in the pathogenesis of Plasmodium falciparum malaria-related anaemia in pregnancy. This study ascertained the prevalence of anti-EPO antibody production and evaluated the antibodies' relationship with Plasmodium falciparum malaria and malaria-related anaemia in pregnancy.

The goal of this research is to study the prevalence of cognitive impairment in diabetes mellitus (DM) patients and establish the necessity of detecting and treating it early in these patients. A cross-sectional study was conducted at a tertiary care hospital in Mysuru for 4 months examined diabetic patients (test) and nondiabetic subjects (control) for cognitive decline using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) tool. Cognitive functions such as visuospatial/executive function, naming, attention, language, abstraction, delayed recall, and orientation were assessed in both groups.

Astaxanthin (3,3-dihydroxy-β, β-carotene-4,4-dione) is a ketocarotenoid synthesized by , , , , , , some bacteria (), yeasts, and lobsters, among others However, it is majorly synthesized by alone (about 4%). The richness of natural astaxanthin over synthetic astaxanthin has drawn the attention of industrialists to cultivate and extract it via two stage cultivation process. However, the cultivation in photobioreactors is expensive, and converting it in soluble form so that it can be easily assimilated by our digestive system requires downstream processing techniques which are not cost-effective.

DNA methylation is an important epigenetic modification that is widely conserved across animal genomes. It is widely accepted that DNA methylation patterns can change in a context-dependent manner, including in response to changing environmental parameters. However, this phenomenon has not been analyzed in animal livestock yet, where it holds major potential for biomarker development.

In the present study, a fluid-filled RF MEMS (Radio Frequency Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) switch is proposed and designed. In the analysis of the operating principle of the proposed switch, air, water, glycerol and silicone oil were adopted as filling dielectric to simulate and research the influence of the insulating liquid on the drive voltage, impact velocity, response time, and switching capacity of the RF MEMS switch. The results show that by filling the switch with insulating liquid, the driving voltage can be effectively reduced, while the impact velocity of the upper plate to the lower plate is also reduced.

Recently, compressive sensing (CS) schemes have been studied as a new compression modality that exploits the sensing matrix in the measurement scheme and the reconstruction scheme to recover the compressed signal. In addition, CS is exploited in medical imaging (MI) to support efficient sampling, compression, transmission, and storage of a large amount of MI. Although CS of MI has been extensively investigated, the effect of color space in CS of MI has not yet been studied in the literature.

Depression is a common mood disorder characterized by persistent sadness and loss of interest. Research suggests an association between the inclusion of omega-3 fatty acids in the diet and a reduced risk for depression. The present study evaluated the effectiveness of omega-3 fatty acid supplements in alleviating depressive symptoms in patients with mild to moderate depression.

The effects of omega 3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3PUFA) supplementation on skeletal muscle are currently unclear. The purpose of this systematic review was to synthesize all available evidence regarding the influence of n-3PUFA supplementation on muscle mass, strength, and function in healthy young and older adults. Four databases were searched (Medline, Embase, Cochrane CENTRAL, and SportDiscus).

This article fundamentally aims at the comparative study of thermo-mechanical characters of Gr/Ag and Gr/Cu nano-composites. For demonstration purposes, three dimensions that is, (1 0 0), (1 1 0) and (1 1 1), of the metals attached with single layer Graphene sheet are considered. The study is facilitated by the adaptation of the molecular dynamic simulations of the soft LAMMPS to mimic the broad range of experimental environment.

Background: Lung cancer images require large memory storage and transmission bandwidth for sending the data. Compressive sensing (CS), as a method with a statistical approach in signal sampling, provides different output patterns based on information sources. Thus, it can be considered that CS can be used for feature extraction of compressed information.

Bio-based film is an eco-friendly alternative to petroleum-based packaging film. The effects of biocomposite wrapping film enhanced with dragon fruit peel extract (0, 2% w/v, respectively) and currently used commercial packaging film (polypropylene; PP) on coconut milk caramels during storage (30 °C, 75% RH, nine days) were studied. Both 0% and 2% DPE-enriched biocomposite films were thicker and had higher water vapor permeability and solubility than the PP film but poorer mechanical characteristics.

Chlorophenols, as a major environmental pollutant, enter water systems through industrial wastewater, agricultural runoff and chemical spills, and they are stable, persistent under natural conditions, and highly hazardous to water resources. The objective of this article is to prepare AgS-modified CN three-dimensional network photocatalyst by calcination method to use photocatalysis as an efficient, safe, and environmentally friendly method to degrade chlorophenols. AgS/CN has an excellent visible light absorption range, low band gap, effective separation of photogenerated charges, and active free radicals production, all of which make for the enhancement of photocatalytic degradation performance of the AgS/CN system.
